MUNCIE, Ind. For weeks, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital s emergency department (ED) has been experiencing an influx of patients, causing officials to release a statement on Tuesday evening to warn the public that its reaching capacity levels.
Courtney Schmoll, public relations manager at the hospital, told The Star Press that the emergency room isn t necessarily seeing a spike in COVID-19 patients, but more general issues instead. We’ve been seeing a high volume of ED patients and a full waiting room for a month or so, but we are now getting close to capacity, Schmoll said.
To help incoming patients determine what illnesses and injuries require an emergency room visit, the hospital released a set of guidelines.

MUNCIE, Ind. A Muncie man was hospitalized late Friday after city firefighters rescued him from a burning house on the city s northeast side.
The man s name or his condition status at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he was taken by ambulance were not available early Saturday.
Firefighters were sent to the home, at 1600 N. Shirey Road, at 9:49 p.m. Friday, and were continuing to battle small blazes in the house after midnight.
Paul Sykes, Muncie Fire Department battalion chief, said the first firefighters at the scene found flames on the first floor when they arrived.

Resisting law enforcement: Muncie police said a local woman led them on a brief chase after they found her slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle in the parking lot of the southside Walmart.
Amy Lynn Bogle, 45, was preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of resisting law enforcement.
An officer, who had been sent to a report of a “suspicious suspect” outside Walmart, said after he approached her Cavalier, Bogle “sped away… at a high rate of speed.”
He described her speech as “argumentative and very slurred.”
Bogle was apprehended after her vehicle was stopped in traffic at 29th Street and Macedonia Avenue.
