An arrest has been made in the Nov. 15 homicide at the Red Carpet Inn on Lawrence street in southern Rome, according to state police.
Wilfredo Cotto Jr., 40, of Rome, was indicted Thursday by an Oneida County grand jury on a charge of felony second-degree murder in connection with the death of 28-year-old Benjamin Davis of Milton, police said.
Following the indictment, an arrest warrant was issued for Cotto and he was arrested, officials said. A virtual arraignment in Oneida County Court is planned for Monday, May 3.
An autopsy performed by the Onondaga County Medical examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds, police previously said. The victim had been staying at the hotel and was shot in the early afternoon hours.
Paths to walk and ride horse-drawn carriages on, just over the Starch Factory Creek, used to greet visitors to Frederick T. Proctor Park.
The 8-acre triangular wedge, nestled between the creek, Bleecker Street and Masonic Care Community of New York, is now overgrown with trees and invasive species. Hints of the portion of the park’s former glory have been unearthed, which was originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.
Some long-time residents of the area remember something used to be across the creek, which was once spanned by a trio of bridges. Today, only one bridge built by the Works Progress Administration in 1940, crosses the creek.

The Utica Police Department has recently received several new National Grid scam complaints in Central New York.
Utica PD says the caller ID shows the call is coming from the 315 area code, and that is enough for some to think it s a legitimate call from National Grid.

The police department explains that the caller identifies as a National Grid employee and tells the person on the other end of the phone that they will disconnect their power within 30-45 minutes if immediate payment is not received.
The caller then attempts to get bank account/credit card account information and the payment. [Utica PD]
