HC hands over one to police over forging signature of PMO official 222 DHAKA, Feb 3, 2021 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today handed one person, who had appeared at the court to secure anticipatory bail in a case lodged over forging signature of an official of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), to police. A High Court division bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice K M Zahid Sarwar scrapped the bail plea of Karim Mia and handed him over to police. “Accused Karim Mia had forged the signature of an Assistant Military Secretary of PMO and was on run since filing of the case against him and two others. The court today scrapped his bail plea and handed him over to police,” Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Monirul Islam told BSS. ....
Fri, 01/22/2021 - 3:39pm The Dunleavy administration argues the Alaska Statehood Act requires it to challenge the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ denial of a key wetlands permit for the Pebble project. The state appeal claims that decision was made using an unprecedented evaluation of the project’s environmental impacts. Acting Attorney General Ed Sniffen signed the state’s 59-page brief on Friday appealing the Corps Alaska District’s November record of decision denying Pebble construction permits. Dunleavy said Jan. 8 the state would appeal the Corps’ decision in a move many opponents of the mine contend directly contradicts the governor’s long standing insistence that he is “neutral” towards Pebble. ....
Wed, 01/13/2021 - 9:57am The Pebble Partnership will have the State of Alaska on its side when the company appeals the federal decision to deny the company approval to construct its mine later this month. Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced via a Jan. 8 statement from his office that his administration would appeal the November U.S. Army Corps of Engineers record of decision, or ROD, denying Pebble the ability to secure a key Clean Water Act wetlands fill permit. Dunleavy said in the statement that the decision signed by Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District Commander Damon Delarosa’s rejecting Pebble’s mine plan sets a “dangerous precedent” that will harm future development in the state. ....
