FRIENDS of Ashlands, the PTA of Ashlands Primary School in Ilkley, has initiated a project to develop trails in and around the town. The first trail based around “The Three Bridges” will be released this month with five further trails to be developed throughout 2021. Each trail will differ in its location and theme which will be seasonally linked but with nature always at the heart. Nicola Holmes, Chair of Friends of Ashlands said: “We love exploring our local area so wanted to develop these trails to give families a purpose for theirs walks and to provide information and inspiration along the way. Ashlands is proud to play an active role in the community with a focus on the environment. Last year’s Wildflower Meadow project on Leeds Road was well received and so we hope this year local families enjoy following these trails. Thanks to Ilkley Town Council for their support in funding this project.”
ILKLEY Town Council has passed a resolution to support the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill. This is due to have its second reading in the UK Parliament at Westminster later in the year. The Bill requires the Government to ensure the UK plays its fair and proper role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to ensure that UK consumption emissions are properly accounted for. It also demands the protection and restoration of biodiverse habitats along overseas supply chains. It would establish a Citizen’s Assembly to engage with Parliament to fulfil an emergency strategy on climate and biodiversity. The Town Council will now write to Ilkley’s MP Robbie Moore to ask him to support the Bill when it comes before Parliament, and will add its name to the list of Councils supporting the Bill that is being compiled by the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill Alliance.
ILKLEY’S Business Improvement District (BID) have launched the new town website Discover Ilkley. The new website has been locally created, commissioning a team of Ilkley businesses to develop and design the site. The project has been a joint initiative with Ilkley Town Council who warmly support the Discover Ilkley Campaign to which it has contributed financially. Ilkley Town Mayor Mark Stidworthy said: “The new Discover Ilkley website is a vibrant and informative one-stop portal where businesses, shoppers, visitors and residents can find out more about what’s happening in the BID area, where to shop, what to eat, where to go and how to get there.”
WHAT speed should traffic be doing in Ilkley? Are you in favour of 20mph limits? Ilkley Town Council’s Transport Sub-Committee will be discussing this and other issues at its next meeting. Bradford Council has put forward a comprehensive set of plans for a 20mph zone throughout the town, with specific measures on all major routes extending from Victoria Avenue in the west to Wheatley Lane in the East. The sub-committee will be considering the plans at the meeting with a view to recommending whether or not the Full Council should support them. Also on the agenda will be the Burley to Ben Rhydding stretch of the Wharfedale Greenway. The Town Council has asked Sustrans to make a proposal to update the feasibility study for this stretch of the Greenway, which has stalled since the original feasibility study was submitted in 2017. The Transport Sub-Committee will be considering this proposal and reporting back to Full Council.
