Iran To Join LNG Race In Asia With Huge North Pars Development

Premium Content Iran To Join LNG Race In Asia With Huge North Pars Development By Simon Watkins - Mar 02, 2021, 6:00 PM CST With Asian spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices having risen to unprecedented levels in January and the outlook remaining extremely robust Iran believes now is the time to move full ahead with its long-term strategy to become a leading global LNG supplier. A key focus for this will be the North Pars non-associated natural gas field that was the largest gas reservoir in Iran before the discovery of supergiant South Pars field in 1990. Propitiously for the speed of development of North Pars, not only are the spot prices of LNG set to remain at the historical high-end but also Iran has virtually completed all phases of its South Pars development.

Iran plans petrochemical BOOM despite US sanctions

Follow RT on Iran’s petchems sector now accounts for over 30 percent of all its non-oil exports and Tehran is planning to boost this further through the build-out of a number of dedicated hubs. Given the extreme unlikelihood of the US returning to the currently structured Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and Iran’s unwillingness to renegotiate the deal any time soon, the Islamic Republic remains focused on three key areas where it can make money despite ongoing sanctions form Washington. Following Saudi’s decision to unilaterally cut one million barrels per day (bpd) below its latest OPEC+ quota originally set last month, Tehran announced last week that the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has signed US$1.2 billion-worth of contracts for eight new projects designed to significantly increase its crude oil production. Although these projects will be broadly managed by Iranian companies, they are part of a patchwork of projects that were formulated in tandem with the 25-year deal made with China in 2019, which will heavily feature Chinese companies working on a ‘contract-only’ basis, albeit lots of con
