Three Gallia organizations receive grant awards

GALLIPOLIS The Gallia Community Foundation at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) has announced $10,000 in grant awards through a partnership with FAO’s I’m a Child of Appalachia® Fund. These grant awards support Gallia County organizations amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
“The COVID-19 crisis has created new needs in Gallia County’s communities while increasing existing issues, such as food insecurity,” said Jodie Penrod, a member of the Gallia Community Foundation committee. “We are so excited to fund several organizations working on the ground to make a difference in Gallia County’s communities during this challenging time.”

QUAKER CITY, Ohio Ohio Hills Health Services is among the first organizations to be featured on the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s new Cause Connector giving site.
Cause Connector is a charitable matchmaking site, created to help more donors support local nonprofit projects in Appalachian Ohio. On Cause Connector, donors can easily search for projects serving their local community across the areas of arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services.
Ohio Hills Health Services work is being highlighted on Cause Connector. The funding received by OHHS will enable the Quaker City Family Health Center to purchase a generator. The pandemic has emphasized the importance for being prepared in case of an emergency. GALLIPOLIS The Gallia County Fair Board launched a new fundraiser on Wednesday to purchase new pig pens.
Newly-elected board member Amy Johnson said the project was launched with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio at www.causeconnector.org. Johnson said the board is looking to raise $5,000 for pig pen panels, which can be moved to a new fair grounds location in the future.
When someone makes a donation on Cause Connector, half of the gift will go to the selected project and the other half will support the foundation’s I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund to provide funds for future projects and scholarships.

NELSONVILLE The I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville have announced $350,000 in grant awards designed to strengthen youth resiliency in Appalachian Ohio.
Given the critical role of childhood development on lifelong well being, and the extraordinary challenges youth face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, grants address the social, economic, educational and health challenges faced by young people in the region.
