Gastonia unveils new dog park

Downtown Gastonia now includes an open air playground that s perfect for the pooch in your life.  City officials said this week the new Bradley Station Dog Park behind the city s Bradley Station transit depot is completed and open. A ribbon cutting ceremony at the park is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.  The pupper park is tucked behind the station, at 181 N. Oakland St., on a grassy patch that separates the station and the Norfolk Southern railroad trench.  Fenced in to keep wandering canines close at hand, the park is subdivided into areas for larger dogs, and smaller dogs weighing less than 25 pounds. It includes grassy patches, mulched areas and seating for owners along with trees that will provide shade from the summer sun and a cool place for both dogs and their owners to relax.

For some, it’s their first time spending Christmas away from their families, and for others who haven’t been home in a few years, this year won’t be much different. BYU student David Jones from Texas isn’t going home for Christmas. For the past two Christmases he was serving his mission, and the Christmas before his mission he was attending Texas A&M, making it easier for him to drive home.
