CHINESE New Year is one of the festive seasons where trishaw riders are able to earn extra money from angpows given by their customers.
Some riders have even received angpows worth hundreds of ringgit during the festival in previous years.
However, all that has changed due to the dwindling number of tourists as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order (MCO).
A trishaw rider, who wished to be known as Kong, 58, said he used to make an extra RM400 during Chinese New Year from the angpows he received from his customers.

Tamil Nadu Muslim League has strongly condemned the attempt by Officers of the Deputy Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI) from Mumbai to seal the State headquarters of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath (TNTJ) in Armenian Street, Chennai.
In a statement, it pointed out that TNTJ is a non-political outfit and had involved itself in various relief works during Chennai floods, cyclones and even during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Officers of the Deputy Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI) from Mumbai suspended an operation to seal the State headquarters of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath (TNTJ) in Chennai on Wednesday, following rising tensions over the issue.
TNTJ members gathered in large numbers and besieged the officers who had come to seal the premises on Armenian Street, in Mannady, under the Enemy Property Act (EPA), for violation of condition of assignment of the building.

GEORGE TOWN: Thousands of tourists throng Penang island on New Year’s Day as the holiday season goes into full swing over the long weekend.
Although traffic was not congested, it was obvious holidaymakers were roaming the city, snapping pictures and looking for good food.
Vehicles bearing mostly outstation registration plates could be seen swarming Batu Ferringhi where tourists picnicked at the beach.
Architect Salman Lee, 35, said he chose to bring his family to Penang rather than elsewhere as the island was known for its many special places.
