Review: In M Night Shyamalan s Old, a gripping premise withstands some flat characterizations

Night Shyamalan’s latest, “Old,” sounds like the most depressing “Gilligan’s Island” episode ever. A group of people go out for a day’s excursion and end up trapped on a beach, where they find themselves rapidly aging. They can’t escape. The situation also sounds like the human condition, but in fast-forward. “Old” is a lot like most Shyamalan movies something weird is happening, people are trapped, and when it’s over you find out why but this time the director has two things going for him: A good idea. And then

Review: Crystal waters, soft sands, clunky dialogue in Old - New Delhi Times - India Only International Newspaper

July 23, 2021 Share “Can you believe I found this online?” a delighted Prisca asks husband Guy at the beginning of “Old,” as their family arrives at a glistening beach resort. Not to be a Debbie Downer quite so soon, but this isn’t a good sign for the family OR the film. “Can you believe I found this online?” has become the hackneyed catchphrase of the vacation horror movie. Old  Review: Time Flies In Shyamalan s Latest Thriller

‘Old’ Review: Time Flies In Shyamalan’s Latest Thriller Whether it’s addressed onscreen or not, every movie is in some way about time: How it flows, how it’s slowed down or sped by up through clever editing, That’s part of the magic of film; it can break us out of the methodical, linear flow of time we all experience in our everyday existence. It’s not uncommon for a movie to show a character’s entire life in a couple of hours, but M. Night Shyamalan’s  Old does it a little differently. Instead of giving us snippets from an entire lifetime, it traps a group of people on a mysterious beach where time moves more quickly than it does on the rest of the planet. Stay on the beach for 30 minutes and you age about a year. Hang out for a whole day, and your entire life could flash before your eyes in the most literal way possible.
