Finding ways to reach out, share and cope

I’m writing to thank everyone involved in the holiday promotion for my recently published book, “Poems In A Time of Grief,” to benefit the Food Bank of Western Mass. Thanks to your kindness and generosity, 32 copies were sold in local bookstores, resulting in a $232.68 donation to the Food Bank, in addition to my regular contribution in memory of my wife, Jean, who passed in 2018 due to an undiagnosed neurological disease.
Thanks go out to Andrew Morehouse and Jillian Morgan at the Food Bank for their help in coordinating and publicizing the promotion, Steve Pfarrer at the Daily Hampshire Gazette and Andy Castillo at The Recorder for publishing a thoughtful review, World Eye Books in Greenfield, Boswell’s Books in Shelburne Falls, Book Moon in Easthampton, Amherst Books in Amherst, and Broadside Books in Northampton for their kind participation.
Birds and nature

Similar letters have been sent in by others fairly recently but sometimes a good message bears repeating.
Thank you, thank you, Recorder, for continuing to print Bill Danielson’s wonderful column about birds and nature. His deep knowledge, his delight in the natural world, especially those birds, the photos (oh, those cardinals!) and his excellent writing make for truly wonderful and uplifting reading.
And thank you, thank you, Recorder, for nurturing the work of Andy Castillo. We have been watching him grow from a fill-in writer to a writer with profound messages and compelling style. His column today (Jan. 11) was one of the best pieces I have ever read in the paper.
