Crest students showcase efforts on Agriculture Day

Crest students showcase efforts on Agriculture Day TJ Bryant has a certain affinity for old tractors. Doesn t much matter what brand or make, just the older the better. On Saturday, Bryant, a student at Crest High School, celebrated his birthday admiring dozens of antique machines from Allis Chalmers, John Deere and other manufacturers during a tractor show at the high school. They are just really cool to look at, a lot of fun to run, and they are fun to work on. They keep us out of trouble, said Bryant. The show was part of Crest s Agriculture Day event, which highlights all of the interests and efforts of agriculture students at the high school.

Randy Gibbs staying busy in retirement

“You can almost build a 1930 Model A four-door sedan from scratch today.” That’s what Randy Gibbs of New Philadelphia says, and he knows, because he is restoring one. That may come as a surprise to the many people who know him as a choir director, or a teacher, or a principal, or assistant superintendent or part of the Moravian Music Foundation or a farmer who rides horses and raises goats, or a devoted family man, but that’s what’s mainly on Randy’s mind today. Born at Union Hospital to Gerald and Lola Beahm Gibbs, 69-year-old G Randall Gibbs grew up on the edge of town, surrounded by farm country. His father owned companies that mined coal and and provided equipment for the building of state highways. His mother, taught Sunday School, and his grandmother, Bernice Gibbs, played the piano at church while he sat beside her on the bench.
