Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is pleading with unvaccinated Americans to get their COVID-19 shot or else, he warns, history is going to repeat itself.
On Tuesday, McConnell, a polio survivor who has encouraged vaccinations before but not with quite this intensity, said it never occurred to him that after three highly-effective vaccines were developed in under a year that we d have difficulty getting Americans to take the shots. But that s obviously where we are. High-profile members of McConnell s own party, as well as conservative news hosts have, for months, erroneously denounced the COVID-19 vaccines as unsafe and ineffective.

Steve Scalise (R-LA) received the first dose of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday despite the fact that its been widely available for some time, especially for members of Congress.
Cases of Covid-19 and hospitalizations have spiked in Scalise’s home state of Louisiana thanks in large part to just 36% of its population being fully vaccinated. Nationally, 49% of the population is fully vaccinated.
The congressman said he believes he had a mild case of Covid-19 at one point, and that he tested positive for Covid antibodies. He thought this gave him a degree of immunity to the disease, but the spread of the delta variant helped change his mind on getting the vaccine.
White House: Conservative media needs to be held accountable for misinformation

White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield claimed social media companies should be held accountable for so-called misinformation. On Tuesday, Bedingfield spoke with MSBNC’s Mika Brzezinski and said it was a goal of the Joe Biden administration to promote the vaccine.
Bedingfield said that most hospitalizations and deaths came from unvaccinated Americans, which has prevented the U.S. from moving on from the pandemic. While she has blamed social media companies for many of the alleged issues, she claimed the real blame was on conservative media.
Democrat Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Change ‘Racist’ Names of Public Places
Democrat lawmakers recently introduced a bill that would rename places around the country that have “racist” history or “bigoted” names, as part of their ongoing efforts to address aspects of U.S. history they deem offensive.
U.S. Sens. Ed J. Markey (D-Mass.), and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) introduced the Reconciliation in Place Names Act, which was originally introduced in 2020 with then-Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.).
The legislation more specifically aims to create a board to oversee the naming of more than 1,000 towns, lakes, streams, creeks, and mountain peaks across the U.S. that have, “offensive names that celebrate people who have upheld slavery, committed unspeakable acts against Native Americans, or led Confederate war efforts.”
