BHUBANESWAR: The SIT, which is probing the alleged rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Nayagarh, recovered a blood-stained towel on Wednesday from the house of the main accused Saroj Sethy, who was arrested on Sunday. The SIT has sent the towel to the forensic laboratory to match the blood stains with that of the deceased’s blood group.
“Sethy told us that the girl had suffered a nosebleed while he was strangling her to death on July 14. He had used the towel to wipe off the girl’s blood. Based on his confession, we searched his house and found the towel with blood stains. Since we know the girl’s blood group and DNA, we will get the blood stain on the towel tested in the forensic laboratory,” a senior SIT officer said.

BHUBANESWAR: A day after arresting a Plus-3 student for the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Nayagarh in July, the SIT on Monday subjected the accused to bone ossification test, which revealed that he is above 18 years of age.
Based on the ossification test report, the POCSO court in Nayagarh has remanded the accused to three-day police remand for interrogation from Tuesday.
When the accused was produced in the court on Monday, his age was contested with his family claiming he was 17.
The lawyer, quoting the accused’s school-leaving certificate, said his client should be treated as a minor and produced in the juvenile court.

The special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the state government to probe the kidnapping and murder of five-year-old Pari from Nayagarh district has arrested the main accused in the case.
The accused, whose name is yet to be disclosed by the SIT led by senior IPS officer Arun Bothra, will be produced in a Nayagarh court. He will be taken on remand for further interrogation.
