Respected N.J. police officer dies after ‘valiant fight’ against COVID, officials say

Officer Hector Moya was 55. He served with the Newark police for more than two decades.
“The City of Newark deeply grieves the loss of this beloved 22-year police veteran,” Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka said in a statement. “Officer Moya served our communities with honor, distinction and excellence. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Officer Moya’s family.”
Grieving fellow officers escorted Moya’s body from the hospital to a funeral home with a final salute. Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said Moya was the seventh city police officer lost to the pandemic. ....

NJ COVID Update: 2 women charged in connection with Newark parties in same location


NEWARK, Essex County (WABC) Two Essex county women have been arrested for serving alcohol after police received reports of a COVID violation.
Rosa Maintano, 23, and Fanny Camas, 27, both of Irvington, were charged with maintaining an unlicensed liquor establishment.
It s incredible how once again people put wealth over health, said Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose in a statement. It s selfish people like this who perpetuate the spread.
The arrests stemmed from complaints of two large parties over the weekend at the same location.
