FULTON â Four Fulton City School District staff members received certification under the Federal Aviation Administrationâs rules for unmanned aircraft systems, known as Part 107, to instruct a newly formed class designed to prepare students for careers that involve drone technology.
Carol Teetsel, Geoff Bertollini, Mike Conners and Dan Mainville received their âdrone wingsâ in February during the districtâs virtual Board of Education meeting with a goal to help students earn theirs as well.
Mainville, who instructs the elective class of about 20 G. Ray Bodley (GRB) students, says students are trained using two different aircraft models to become adept at solving mechanical failures and mastering essential piloting skills.

FULTON - A Fulton City School District (FCSD) event that started back in 2015 is set to return this year in hopes of connecting district families with community resources in an extended virtual format.
In the past, Parent University was held as a single-day, in-person event. However, this year from April 12 through April 17, families throughout the district can join the event that includes 27 scheduled virtual workshops, a community resource fair, and on-demand presentations that showcase what the community has to offer.
âThis family engagement week serves as a kick-off to the new Parent University section of our website, where families can reference resources and recorded presentations at a time that is most convenient for them,â said FCSDâs Director of Student Support Services, Elizabeth Tiffany.
OSWEGO â Students from eight Oswego County school districts recently raced around the world â virtually â while testing their knowledge, problem-solving abilities and perseverance along the way.
The event was part of the Oswego County Academic Youth (OCAY) League competition âRace Around the World,â which pitted teams of students against one another to navigate through a virtual escape room. The virtual journey prompted critical thinking as students had to crack the airport codes before moving on to the next stop in the race.
âThey visited eight countries and we used Zoom breakout rooms to facilitate the competition,â said OCAY League Coordinator Caitlin White, a teacher from Sandy Creek. âThe students did a great job and we are really proud of them!â
