HONG KONG -- Carrie Lam, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said on Wednesday that the rule of law is recognized as a core value and the cornerstone of Hong Kong's success, and under the protection of the HKSAR Basic Law, it has been highly respected since Hong Kong's return to its motherland.
Lam made the remarks at the launching ceremony of the Legal Aid Department 50th Anniversary Roving Exhibition, saying it was very important to ensure that Hong Kong residents enjoy equality before the law as guaranteed by the HKSAR Basic Law, and that people will not be prevented from seeking justice or protecting their rights through the law because of their financial situation.
