Police arrested the 18yearold yesterday afternoon charged with the horrific stabbing death on july 4 aboard a metro train. Motive was likely a robbery. Sutherlands father told wusa9 he believes his son died over a cell phone. He said police found a smashed phone outside the metro station. Today in court spires will be arraigned for the first time for this crime but wusa9 has now learned he faces a separate robbery charge. Police say on july 4 less than two hours after he allegedly stabbed sutherland, spires robbed a 76yearold man and his daughter also at the Noma Gallaudet station. They werent hurt but shaken un. Now friends of southerland are speaking sutherland are speaking out remembering a man they say was always smiling. Hes one of the kindest people ive ever known.
