be himself but a teacher coming to his less kutch thanks foy josh joining us tonight. i'm iain page that. teacher had one simple message, not oh and my watch and help start a movement in that community. fox 29's dave kinchen live with a story you'll see only on fox tonight. dave. >> reporter: iain, such a special story here with so many people coming together. it starte started with one tweet went viral and now the world is stepping up to help out. >> having to leave parents, you know, your parents home, it emotionally wrecked me because it's, you know, you guys are supposed to be the one who, you know, nurtures me, takes care of me and, you know, accept me no matter what. >> reporter: 17-year-old sean is transgender and says he's been on his own since last christmas night. with hardly anyone to turn to as he made his transition from makiah. >> start to question yourself, um, why am i like this? is this right? is this okay? >> reporter: on his own in sometimes rough city, sean turned no his english teacher lauren who helped him get from shelter to shelter never giving up. >> he was in contact with me, um, on a friday, and we thought he could make it the weekend and then you were contacting me over the weekend it was bad. i really adamantly was not going to allow what was going on with him to together. >> he has shelter for the time being but needs clothes. across town emily grub berman heard about sean's struggle and went to twitter. >> all of a sudden i posts this and it has like 20,000 win the first couple of hours and i never expected it to go that fast and get that large now it's at over 100,000 likes and 20,000 retweets. >> reporter: it even made buzz feed of 15 really awesome things that happened this week thousands of people from all over helping in some way. >> this one person went out to buy a backpack and she literally bought all of these new clothing for him. not even donate put her own money and effort into donating and i have, um a woman who told me that she works for shoe department and they're going to donate shoes. >> reporter: sean has already received some of the donations and is forever grateful. >> they've been like so generous to me. i've never had people be that nice to me, so at first i really didn't know how to handle it but, you know, once i wasn't going to turn them down. i appreciate everything that, you know, they've been doing for me. >> reporter: 40% of america's homeless youth identify as lgbtq with philadelphia being one of the hardest hit cities. iain? >> all right, dave, thank you. in delaware county, a scary morning in church and now police want to find the man they say threatened to come back and attack the members inside. here he is. upper darby police want to find him. our dave schratwieser has details. report roar police say this incident occurred during sunday morning services and caused quite a bit of concern. for church leaders and the congregation. >> if you make a threat to kill somebody you need to be locked um period. >> reporter: strong words from police as they put out a bulletin for the arrest of the sherwood hargrove after he allegedly made threats to harm the congregants of the beaulah tabernacle church in drexel hi hill. >> we would like him to surrender before somebody gets hurt. >> reporter: it happened this past sunday during the 11:30 service at the church at state road. he made harsh comments to people attend the service was asked to leave then escorted out. >> became kind of a shoving match, and hargrove allegedly said to him, you're all going to die, and as he gets his coat he gets outside he said i'm going to come back and kill everybody. >> that's scary just happening so much you hear about it so often. >> reporter: scott risotto lives on the same block of the church. the threats and warrant for hargrove's arrest raise concerns in this quiet drexel hill neighborhood. >> you always hear about the after effect we had warning signs and we did nothing about it. so i'm glad they're doing something about it. >> that's something that they have to look out for now. >> reporter: police have a warrant charging hargrove with making terroristic threats and harassment given the recent church shooting in texas and last week's school shooting in parkland, florida, police aren't taking any chances. >> they make a threat. and their witnesses to that threat you lock them up. let the courts decide that. >> reporter: pass tort congregation did not want to comment on the incident. superintendent michael chitwood is urging the great mood iain why not? we're talking about temperatures still in the 60s after a day in the 70s and it's only going to get warmer tomorrow. take a look at where we are at right now. across the delaware valley after a high of 72 in philadelphia. it's 60 degrees. it's still 62 in pottstown. 60 in dover. and in wildwood it's 60. 57 in the poconos? after 10:00 o'clock. that's unheard for this time of year. overnight low temperatures in the tease good give us a big jump start to the day tomorrow. here's a look at the records for them. tears the numbers beat. philadelphia 72. 71 in reading. 74 in atlantic city. 70s in trenton and wilmington allentown's record is 67. all of this warmth is coming ahead of a cold front. you see the rain associated with it. that rain comes in tomorrow night. and behind it, a cool change. so unfortunately, this spring break is not going to last. so try to get outside tomorrow. we'll talk more about how warm it's going get and plus the cool and the rain that will follow when i join you inside but for now iain we'll stick out here for little while. >> i don't blame you, kathy. all right. thanks. well this was quite the sticky situation this morning for drivers on i-295. tires caked in tar after a tanker truck accidentally leaked liquid asphalt on to the highw highway. crews spent hours cleaning up all the goo. our dawn timmeney has more from thorofare. >> i feel like i got a flat tire, you know. >> reporter: vince pete to have maple shade pulled over to see what was wrong but only to discuss cover tar, 3-inches thick caked all over his tires. >> the front tire, the front passenger was the worst that's where i hit it the hardest. but i couldn't believe it. i never seen anything like that before. >> reporter: same story for this woman, it was shortly after 5:00 this morning she thought she had zero yuks yous tire problem. feeling like she was losing control of her car. >> so i pulled over and i seen there was all this glue, this tar all over my car. it was horrible. it was horrible. high hard time staying on the road. >> reporter: it turns out trinketer from tri-state transportation just pull out of the refinery in paulsboro was spewing liquid asphalt as it headed for 295 south. >> condensation got into the tank. the condensation and asphalt don't mix. and it started boiling over. it gross almost twice the size. so hit to go out somewhere. >> reporter: tri-state transportation cleanup crews spent seven hours scraping up the gooey gobs of tar from a 15-mile stretch of road by hand. general manager dave mains apologizing to drivers offering to clean up and repair any damage to vehicles caught up in the sticky situation. >> vince one of the first to bring his truck in to tri-state to get the tarry mess removed. he was worried he might need four new tires. >> saved me a thousand dollars. i'm happy with that. >> reporter: tri-state says it's heard from about 20 drivers so far. will do whatever is necessary to make things right. people can either bring their vehicles here to get the tar off or the company says it will reimburse them. dawn timmeney, fox 29 news. happening right now, buses pulling up to florida state capital full of high school students who survived that florida high school shooting. the message they're giving lawmakers, no other student should have to die in school. back at home many gathered around city hall in philadelphia to stand with those teens. remember the victims and demand change. let's get out to shawnette wilson who joins us live at city hall tonight. shawnette. >> reporter: iain, the theme of the rally was demand a ban and those gathered say it is a problem that there seems to be more guns than people in the united states. >> united we stand, demand the ban. >> dozen gathered outside city hall to honor the victims of the parkland school shooting and to rally for strictor gun laws specifically a ban on assault weapons. >> this should not be happening. >> reporter: many overcome with grief and emotion. because they know the pain of gun violence personal. >> one night he was going to pick up his sister in a neighborhood where two guys was fighting over a girl. the they thought he was one of the guys coming back to retaliate. and they shot him four times. >> yacy breaks down in tears talking about the murder of his youngest son charles. >> i would never have the opportunity to see him get married, graduate from college as a matter a fact 26 days after he was murdered, his only son was born. my grandson would never know his father. he would never have an opportunity to play ball with his dad. or my son teach him to ride a bike. >> the rally comes on the same day student in florida boarded buses to travel to the state capital to lobby lawmakers on gun laws. democrats hope to have the assault rifle bill but the republican house voted it down. tonight more students are arriving in tallahassee to continue the fight ahead of a rally wednesday. >> everyone is paying attention now it's a huge call to action for anyone who has kids and anyone whose in school. >> we're not introducing new bills we can alter the ones current until place. >> back in philadelphia, district attorney larry krasner urged the crowd to use their votes to send a message about gun control. >> we need to regulate guns. we regulate cars. everybody accepts that they think it's normal. we need to regulate guns. this isn't crazy. >> reporter: and organizers of this evening's marseille they are planning to march on marc march 21st through center city to get the attention of the lawmakers on this issue. iain. >> shawnette, thank you. president trump signing memo to take steps towards banning bump stock devices. that's what was used in the dealed las vegas shooting last year. bump stocks allow semi automatic weapons to become rammed fire devices. the justice department understands this is a priority for the president. skyfox over west philadelphia tonight where a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back. he's in critical condition right now. this hammed just before 8:00 at 56th and sansom streets. so far there have been no arrests. it could be the first fast food spot in one montgomery county town. packed into jenn quinn town cafeteria it got heated over crunch wrap supremes. their message no taco bell. all right. you've seen it but what does it mean? turns out the answer not so easy. one town could get its first food spot in montgomery county. not if local neighbors have anything to say about it. taco bell wants to open up in jenkintown. not everyone wants to think outside our bun. chris o'connell was at the town debate where thing got a little saussy. he joins us live in jenkintown. chris. >> reporter: you see this old house behind me off of the 611 in jenkintown. it is the subject of some new debate. plans for a khaki bowl restaurant here has some residents fuming and it's got nothing to do with chalupas. >> i've lived on horrible old york road for more than 30 years. it's my home. >> jenkintown residents making their voices loud and clear. >> as i look out my lovely master bedroom i'll look at your 2am drive through. >> i just don't see how it fits any way into jenkintown. >> reporter: pack house borough officials here strong reaction to a plan for knocking down a former funeral home now office building to build a new drive through taco bell restaurant on old york road. >> i'm going to be employing people and most of them are going to be from jenkintown, because again that type of business is mostly young people. >> reporter: taco bell franchisee and borough officials say the plan would bring 32 new jobs to town increase sagging tax revenue and give a shot in the arm to local schools. >> if we don't support business development to help our school which is the cornerstone f we don't believe in our public school system, then people are not coming here. >> reporter: some say this isn't what the borough needs. >> how many people think you're going to have someone employed by taco bell? >> reporter: critics think a drive through open until 2am isn't the right fit a petition has been started with more than 300 signatures to stop the plan from moving forward. >> my wife and i walk around town every single evening. >> reporter: residents like tim say a plan like this would ruin one of the borough's biggest features. walk ability. >> the more that you have these one-story strip mall type of businesses whether it's fast food or any other kind the more you destroy the character of this town. >> reporter: now the plan still has to go through a number of zoning board exemptions britt goes to borough council. but if approved, this old house could be demolished and construction could start this time next year. iain? >> all right, chris, thank you. soup super bowl is behind us but of course we still love talking about the eagles. their world champs the birds making coaching decisions after losing some of their guys to other teams. kristen rodgers joins us now with details. kristen. >> iain, after interviewing both receivers coach mike grow and running backs duce staley eagles have reportedly landed with grow to take over as their new offensive coordinator. he joined the eagles this past off season and made an immediate impact on the receivers. this is the first time grow will be in oc in the nfl he served as offensive coordinator for virginia from 2006 to 2008 he does have an extensive coaching resume dating back to 2,000 with the jets, rams and bears. as for duce staley despite being passed over espn is reporting his title has been promoted he's now the assistant head coach as well as running backs coach. staley played for the eagles for seven seasons and has been on staff that long as well. coming up more on this new look eagles staff plus the flyers embracing that next man up mentality and you have to hear what foods gabe kapler likes to indulge in. congressional redistricting map sent down by the state supreme court. saying in part don't let the d dems take elections away from you so that they can raise taxes and waste money. what's his beef with the new map? take a look. there are some big changes experts say it could bring a boost for democrats in the state. so what are the major differences? our bruce gordon breaks it down fours. >> reporter: this is the map that the democrat controlled state supreme court knocked out drawn up by republicans back in 2011, and in the mind of the court, designed specific toll help the gop rin some extra congressional seats. look at the bizarre shapes on this map. these are the congressional boundaries especially down here in our area. now, if a state that usually see as roughly 50/50 split between republicans and democrats in the aggregate or total congressional vote, this map produced 13 gop republican winners and just five democrats. well, change is on the way. this is the new map. it means big things for our area especially here in montgomery county. >> what's going on? >> somewhere near the upper salford township park sin sits the exact point in montgomery county where three different congressional districts meet. it's where we met michael and diane pines from telford out for walk on this beautiful day. >> so you live in montgomery county. and your current congressman ♪ it's hank. i'm in easton miss valerie davis the art to you cher at easton middle school is sketching all of the victims of the parkland school shooting in florida her way of coping and helping others it's difficult to deal with a tragedy. our hank flynn went to easton to meet an arty cher who is feeling the pain and taking action. >> reporter: it's hank i'm in easton with miss valerie davis the arty cher at easton middle school doing a pretreat of meadow pollock gunned down last week in the school shooting in florida. this is miss davis toes way of dealing with the tragedy for herself, for the family and for all of us. >> your lives are like snuffed out. i still can't figure out why. >> it's a meditation artwork valerie davis does her mind wanders as her hand moves with speed and sent she's doing graphite on paper portraits of each of the park land school shooting victims portraits which will eventually find their way to grieving families. >> it's forgotten about it by some people. next week they'll just go on with their lives but these people have to live with this for the rest of their lives. every time they look at this picture i want them to remember that someone cared. >> some time since the last ones. miss davis had done portraits memorializing 9/11 firefighters, children killed at sandy hook. the victims of the charleston church shooting and others. but this particular tragedy took a son of easton among the 17 killed chris hixon is from the south side his parents still live in town. >> i was telling the mayor that i drew these pictures and said, val, when you see chris' family, he said when you see the grandparents you're going to know them they've been on center street ought of their lives. >> miss davis is from three blocks over. a plan later this week to deliver the portrait to hixon's family but the work itself is the heart of the all it allows miss davis to consider those killed who they were, what they might have been. the teacher comes out when she thinks about her own students. >> like i watched that fire drill they have and i was telling my students in school, you have to take fire drill serious. you can't be talking. it's important for us to know where you are to know that you have to be, um, where you said you were going to be and we have to be -- you have to be accountable. >> reporter: miss davis gave me a gift, too a portrait she done of joaquin oliver she reduced to the size of a necklace medallion and sealed it with a hug. i've been bothered by that sho shootinshootshooting inclined ta lot of reason. i'm glad i met miss davis. she's brought and will continue to bring healing to people in pain. i'm hank and that's my take. ♪ >> mistrial today for philly' most famous crime boss. dave? >> reporter: iain, it's no secret that mob boss joey merlino a big time gap her. he rolled the dice on this case in new york and he came up with a victory at least for now the judge declaring a mistrial after the jury couldn't reach a verdict. on the way out of court he said thank god for the jury. >> how is things. >> good. how you feeling. >> good. when mob boss joe we're merlino walk into court at the beginning of his trial in new york over three weeks he had a prediction of sorts. >> we got a good short. >> he was partially right the jury saying tuesday they couldn't reach a verdict on the four counts against him. his camp viewed it as win for the 55-year-old mobster. he was potentially facing more than ten years in prison on health care fraud and gambling charges. john terry is the former head of the fbi's organized crime squad here in philadelphia. >> i think you can make an argument that he would feel empowered at some point, upping, you want to be able to sleep at night without worrying is there going to be a knock at the door or bullet coming through the wip dough. the government relied on informants like jr lube bee yo compiling hours of secretly recorded tapes. but rubio got beat up by merlino's lawyer ed jacobs on cross examination as did two other government witnesses. >> any comment on rubio yet. >> can't say nothing. >> he overcame heart problems and a appears to be tired of the government's relentless pursuit of the philly mob. he's already spent over 15 years of his life behind bars terry believes merlino's future is uncertain at best. >> at his age, is that the end of his career as a mobster?
