physical, never too early to start, bob, thank you. 4:01. olde city philadelphia building ravage by a massive fire may run the risk of collapse. lauren john sows at third and chestnut this morning. >> reporter: streets are still block off in olde city, many people surprised, shocked this is happening, nearly 24 hours after that fire started but we heard from philadelphia fire commissioner adam tiehl yesterday that this fight would take all day and into the night and as he promised this crews are still here keeping an eye on hot spots. yesterday evening, a deputy fire commissioner told thaws people who live inside that building are still not allowed back inside, as you mentioned, thomas fire fighters haded to set up collapse zones inside bit building some of those were put in place inside the apartment and homes and to prevent weight of the water soak wood in the older building to collapse at any moment. fire broke out at 239 chestnut street around 3:30 sunday morning, jumping from floor to floor, very quickly, during the height of the battle, nearly 400 fire fighters were on the scene here. people took the fire alarm signal seriously quickly racing out of the burning building to safety, preventing any major injuries, and death, and fire fighters, are applaud ing them for thinking quickly. >> it is just a testimony to our citizens in this area because it seems to me like they heard the smoke alarms, majority of them got out the way they should have, and they were prepared, and i cannot speak highly enough of our citizens, understanding the value of having a way out. mental health problem, congress as has recently tried and failed to pass gun related legislation. bipartisan bill would have ban ned the sale of bump stocks devices used to amplify shooting power of semiautomatic rifles. introduced just days after gunman used bump stocks to open fire on a las vegas country music festival. opponents argued it was a regulatory issue deferring the matter to the atf. bump stocks were the focus a few weeks late when house passed legislation ordering a study of how many gun crimes involved the devices. results are expect by the summer. then in early in an air force the scene following a massive fire in olde city that forced more than 100 people to evacuate this morning there are concerns that the building could collapse. lauren johnson right there at third and walnut, lauren, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. we have moved a tad bit closer to give you an idea what the scene looks like at this hour. olde city is men to attract tourist from all over the world. yesterday some of those visitors to our great city were not just shock, surprised but also majorly inconvenienc ed by what happens in this building. museum of the american revolution had to close doors to the public but they did keep them opened to house those displaced by the fire. crews remains on the scene, into the morning to keep an eye on hot spots, the fast moving fire that demanded 400 fire fighters was raging around 3:00 a.m. yesterday morning, waking people up, out of their sleep, within man living in the building described seeing thick smoke billowing from the first floor when she looked outside window and then smelled smoke, and immediately evacuated, calling , counting neighbors to make sure everyone was okay, but in the end everyone in the building made it out safely with the exception of a few cats. fire fighters were thankful to know people living here took warnings and alarms seriously. >> we had plenty of false alarms in the building with the fire alarm so you think it is nothing at first but when i smelled smokey realized this time was the real thing. i'm actually a former fireman myself so i know how serious these things can be so i took it very seriously. >> reporter: fire crews set up collapse zones inside to avoid further disaster. solve on those zones are set up inside peoples apartment homes. licenses and inspections will be on the scene
