to go. >> now, fox 29 news at 10:00. >> so exciting. super bowl sunday rapidly approaching as we said four more days pretty much all of philadelphia is getting seriou seriously pumped. thank you much for joining us at 10:00. i'm lucy noland. we are ready for some football. you know who is really ready? our crew in minute money and here in philly covering the leader up to the big game. dave schratwieser live in philly which is preparing for the super bowl after party. chris o'connell is live in minneapolis. we'll get to them in a moment. we begin with kristen rodgers at the mall of america and, krist kristen, huge news from the nfl today. very excited around here. >> oh, yeah, lucy the buzz here today in minnesota nfl on fox is getting even bigger. fox and the nfl have agreed to a five-year deal for thursday night football. roger goodell nfl commissioner spoke about it earlier today. >> every network that was interested in that we had very aggressive bit bidding, and we see that our content even in the environment that's changing very dramatically in the media world we're seeing our content stand above everything else, and that's something that we're excited about. one of the reasons we're so optimistic about the future. >> is that will start this season for weeks four through 15. but we still have to wrap up this season super bowl lii and eagles they would their first practice today over at the university of minnesota in their indoor facility. >> here it is. our first look at practice for the eagles some normalcy for the birds to get back to work. there's so much hype around the super bowl that the players remind themselves that on sunday there is a game. >> it's, you know, we'll have to adjust when they adjust. i think we got great coaches that put us in position to make plays. so i'm not too worried about that. i know they got great defensive players that are in the right place at the right time. and just comes down to us just do your job. >> the only team that has been able to beat the tom brady patriots in the super bowl is the giants and they did so by rattling brady. chris long nose him well and has some advice. >> i can't tell you what to do but i can tell was not to do and that's, you know, forget about doing your job and forget about, you know, your fundamentals want got you here, because as i've said, he's good at timing. he's at frustrating rushers getting the ball out. making up up the protections, um, and you can't get out of the your game. >> coming up later in sports, today the eagles did something in practice they haven't done all season. i'll tell was that is coming up later in the show. but for now we'll go out to our chris o'connell who is live here in minneapolis. hey, chris. what's up? >> reporter: hey, kristen. i'll tell you one of the main reasons why a super bowl is so successful is the thousands and i mean tense of thousands of volunteers you see here in these blue coats. they do anything from give directions offer up local history for one loyal volunteer this is a chance of a lifetime. >> greeting fans through the streets of downtown minneapolis one super bowl volunteer has little more pep in his step. any guesses why. >> the commit committee give us this nice jacket. i'm still going wear my gear no matter what i have on neither it. >> months ago tacony native james pet travis signed up to be one of the crew 52 blue volunteers working the soup. he lives here now but little did he know his team would be here. >> what's this like, man? >> it's amazing to be a part of the super bowl and have my hometown team that i grew uprooting for right here in my backyard now. >> reporter: volunteer duties include peeing a city ambassador and working the bold north zipline across the mississippi river but allowed him to meet g howie roseman. >> talking a little bit with brian dawkins. ran into meryl reece, howard eskins. >> he understands after the vikings loss he's in enemy territory he's just waiting for his reinforcement eagles fans to roll into town. >> a lot of eye rolling. a lot of watch this guy much what it is. i'll keep being an ambassador and showing them what the real philly fans are really like. >> reporter: i'll tell you james has been all around. he's hitting all the events. but there's one event he's not going to be able to get to. the game itself. the get in price 3500 bucks for a ticket he says he's going to get a bunch of eagles fans he's going to go to bar and watch it with hometown fans. lucy? >> you can buy a couple of rounds for $3,500 now, couldn't you? >> reporter: yeah. >> all right. thank you much, chris. so with all the excitement of the big game, philadelphia police are stepping up security for the city to make sure we all stay safe. with the crisco not working as well as they thought it would after the last game, police are using something new. something you are not going to want all over you. our dave schratwieser is live in south philadelphia. so, dave, i guess it's not the crisco cops any more. huh? >> reporter: no, it's not. it's the $64,000 question everybody has been asking for the past two weeks after police put crisco oil on these poles hoping to keep the fans off the poles after the nfc championship game. we although that didn't work. so they're switching it up and this time fans will find it a lot slicker. >> regular gear oil like consistency of molasses. >> reporter: guys over at evans gulf on spring garden street know all about gear oil. they use it almost every day tat at the garage and they're not big fans of the gooey substance. >> it's thick you can get it off your clothes. it smells and it's really tough to clean up. >> reporter: sources say police plan to use a form of gear oil instead of crisco oil tigris poles along broad street and up in the northeast for sunday night's expected big eagles celebration. >> don't climb up the poles. >> reporter: tom flores says fans should be aware if you're planning on wearing your favorite birds jersey and scaling up a pole with the stuff on it. well, good luck in trying to clean your jersey. >> you can't take it to the dry cleaners and get it off? >> no you ruin the clothes. clothes are ruined. >> reporter: we went to h and z laundry on the boulevard where customers told us not even the senior super load washer set on heavy soil will get gear oil o out. >> think you can get that kind of stuff out of the your clothes if you climb one much your pol poles. >> no, i don't think so. you have to throw your clothes away. >> reporter: fans will see more phil and state police. also be lots of mounted police on street corners. and if thing get out of hand, police in those so-called turtle protective suits might come out, too. >> we are about business but we are also about the business of allowing people to celebrate as long as it's done peacefully. >> reporter: now, if you're thinking about climbing that pole right there to get a fletcher cox fly eagles fly flag up there, you might want to forget about it. that stuff is really nasty from what the guys at evans gulf told mow today. they will start mike that stuff to the... applying that stuff to the poles around 3:00 o'clock sunday afternoon. lucy. >> if that doesn't work they can always use pam. my mom would use pam. anyhow, thanks -- thanks very much, dave. >> live look now at the ben franklin parkway. kathy, sunday night celebrations because we are going to win, of course, right? >> yes. >> well, folks v good weather to go along with the big party. >> i was just pi thinking dave was talking about the poles. they might not want to be out. we're talking about rain and wet snow and it's all about this. we have an area of low pressure it will become coastal storm the big question where is it going to end up? is it going to go off the mid atlantic or is it going to hug the coast and be very close to the delaware valley? >> close to the delaware valley would mean more rain. further out to sea would mean more snow. keeping careful eye on this low for sunday one thing we know it looks like snow in the poconos and lehigh valley for sure. philadelphia and the i-95 corridor rain mixing with snow and better chance of rain down the shore but it will all be determined by the track of that low and over the next several days we're going to keep a careful eye on that. getting to and from your festivities and for the big party after the win, could be a little tricky. we'll continue to track this for you and have the seven day coming up. >> thank you kathy. alex, mike and good day gang have you covered in the mornings they're live in the twin cities bright and early tomorrow morning yet again. and kristen and chris and howard are with us for 5:00-s-6:00, 10:00 and 11:00. much more straight ahead. prowlers in parking lots are creating quite the scare in upper darby. police say they're holding up commuters at gun .3 times so f far. fox 29's dave kinchen is live in delaware county. dave? >> reporter: this is something that's really frightening for so many people here. police say these thieves are deliberately striking at night and targeting commuters on their way home from work. >> i think that's terrifying. >> reporter: the reaction from captain mcrae after she got off the train at the park view station in the highland park section of upper darby township. it's where police say two people were robbed by three men. each had guns and threatened to shoot. >> we didn't know anything about it. locals usually are kind of like the first ones to hear about it. i don't understand that. >> reporter: most recent stick up was late last night where cops say the three bad guys approached a man who had just gotten off the train and walked up a trail. investigators say he was robbed of his phone, money, hoodie and belt. >> terrifying just to know like -- 19 your neighborhood i live right up the street. >> reporter: couple days before after man was held up near the sim spot as he got off septa. >> we just might have to go right into 69th street, not come down here at all. >> reporter: just days before that, last friday night at this chestnut street parking lot, police say three men pointed their guns at a woman and took her cell phone but she ended up fighting back. >> she refused to give up her handbag. she fought them off for that report roar police superintendent michael chitwood says nothing is worth your light life. >> if they get your phone and take your money and take your clothing, so be it. it's three-one. unless you're armed and you're good, i would give it up. >> reporter: police say they have boosted patrols in the impacted areas. lucy? >> all right, thank you, dave. happening right now, the search for a gunman after a high school went on lock down over deadly shots fired. in philadelphia's mayfair neighborhood, the principal of lincoln high school kicked out group of men who were watching a basketball game. now in the parking lot a fight broke out and suddenly shots erupted. one man ended up hit in the legs and chest. he died at the hospital tonight. police say he also had a gun. the chaos ended the basketball game and forced the school into lock down. >> athletic director came running in and told everybody get down, and get off the court and we d we just everybody hid for cover. i think it's disgusting. adults coming to school to, a kid's game with weapons. >> police have not made any arrests as of yet. a local high school star, lasalle basketball stand out, nba veteran rasul butler is gone tonight. too soon. so what happened moments before his car crashed? note. >> i knew it was wrong. i knew all along all of it was wrong. because i was constantly reminded it had to be a secret. >> accusations of sex abuse behind the scenes of charles in charge and both sides are >> developing story. a point breeze basketball legend and his wife have died in a car crash in southern california. fox 29's iain page is following the story in our operations center. iain, just tragic. >> lucy, such sad news. rasul butler the guy with the smile that could light up a room and loved by so many has s gone too soon. butler lost control of his range rover early wednesday morning in studio city california. the vehicle hit a parking meter and then the wall of a marshall's department store. according to los angeles police, the vehicle was going well in excess of the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour. philadelphia native, butler played four years of college basketball at lasalle university where he scored more than 2,000 points. butler was drafted by the miami heat in 2,002 and played for several nba teams in 13-year career. butler's wife lea labelle was an r and b singer who was signed to epic records and was best known for her run on the third season of american idol where she finish 12th. less than 24 hours ago, he posted this he wasn'ting image on instagram with the caption, we are here to be ourselves and no one else. >> a lot of nba veterans posting heartfelt messages on social media all day. all echoing the same thing. that rasul butler was one of a kind and he will be missed. he was just 38 years of age. lucy? '70's and '80s tv star scott baio faces sexual misconduct accusations from a former cast mate. he denies the claims made by his charles in charge co-star nicole egg gert. both are airing their side of the story on tv and on social mode ya. our shawnette wilson has what's going on life now. shawnette. >> reporter: lucy, they actually both agree on one thing, that at one point, they did have consensual sex. the dispute is when it happened, at what age and was it legal? >> you city, now you see that? you guys are back together aga again. >> reporter: scott baio and nicole egg gert seen her in seemingly happier times on the show charles in charge. now scott baio is facing charges and it's not part of a script. >> nicole egg gert continues to shop this story around with lisa bloom now and shopping it to social media, to television to, whomever will listen it to. i don't know why. >> baio now 57 years old took to social media to address allegations of sexual abuse. boy his former co-star nicole egg gert now 46 years old. he also appeared on good morning america. >> the moment that her first allegation that we had sex when she was 17, which is not true, as soon as that was proven to be 100% false, she comes up with a new story where something happened once week for years. >> egg gert claims bay yao molested her for years beginning when she was 14. she talk about it with dr. oz. their interview aired today. his show held on to it for weeks because producers questioned her timeline for the allegations. >> did you think it was wrong at the time when you were having sex with him? i knew it was wrong. i knew all along all of it was wrong, because i was constantly reminderemindedreminded it had t yet being a teenager and going through, you know, dealing with your hormones and going through puberty and all of that, it, um, sort of stayed in it and just kept quiet. >> she says she definitely feels it was abuse. >> if his feelings were genuine or not, as far as loving me, he should have known better. >> baio maintains he's done nothing wrong and says egg gert seduced him once when she was 18 a legal adult. >> almost all he said she said cases it's just he said she said. now go prove or disprove it. >> baio also says that the claims would have been absolutely impossible because the set was so full of teachers, relatives and crew members, lu lucy. >> all right. thank you shawnette. philadelphia's new district attorney larry krasner is reviewing the fatal shooting of a man by an off duty police detective monday morning. commissioner ross says he does have some concerns since krasner took office it's one of the first high profile cases to come across his desk and krasner says he intends even handed in his investigation. bruce gordon reports. >> reporter: we caught up with philadelphia district attorney larry krasner at his offices eagles pep rally wednesday and i asked whether krasner had seen what police investigators have gathered regarding the incident. >> we have received some materials, um, there's more to receive, weary viewing what we have now and we're going to follow the stressed where it leaves. >> reporter: the off duty detective confronted 31-year-old khalil lou wall after he distribute rattily struck a pedestrian at broad and bigler around 7:30 monday morning. fox 29 has learned at least three video cameras including one on this nearby home recorded the incident. which the driver now out of his vehicle struggled witness detective. fox 29 has been told the detective fired several shots knocking the man to the ground. then continued firing striking the man 13 times in all. the number of shots app pedestrian to be somewhat of an issue for police commissioner richard ross when he discussed the case monday. >> there are some concerns because of, um, the way -- the shots were fired and the positioning and things like th that. but at this time, i'm just being very candid about the fact that we do have some concerns about the discharge. >> reporter: philadelphia police have taken to twitter asking "if all right witness to the police shooting incident at broad and bigler or had any under action with the operator of the black honda accord call investigators at (215)683-1866" as for krasner -- >> we have no favorite. we just intend to be completely even handed and fair and coming to conclusion about what occurred. >> reporter: krasner' election as district attorney while cheered by many was greeted with some scepticism in the police community with some folks fearing he would not give cops a fair shake in exactly these kinds of investigations. so while the probe is now in police hands, it will certainly end up in krasner's lap. the pressured to right by all sides will be intense. i'm bruce gordon fox 29 news. choppers, police and the national guard. ♪ >> where is the football? lease see says the beautiful bells can be heard over mile away. she loves making music and has been playing the carol on for over 40 years. >> seng the eagles a lot of positive energy. i'm so glad that the nursery school got behind this idea. >> reporter: st. thomas thought it was great way to come together as pre-school and show their support for the hometown team. >> why do you like the eagles? >> because they score touchdowns, one, two, three. >> i like them because they're good players. >> reporter: who's going to win the super bowl? >> the eagles and the football. >> go, eagles. >> reporter: st. thomas is definitely has that eagles spirit as you can see from their sign. the church also sent out e-mail blast to 1200 parishioners encouraging everyone to wear eagles green on super bowl sunday. dawn timmeney, fox 29 news. >> so cute. all right. look at your tv here. you can't miss this. that is a hero at work saving two fellow deputies when car barreled right at them. april, come on. come on. we loved you but now you go and you pick the patriots? oh, no. fly, eagles, fly. ♪ ♪ one close call. three deputies with boone county sheriff's office in illinois investigate a dui saturday night when that happened. during the call one deputy saw the car barreling toward them and pushed everyone to safety. well, they did eventually catch up to that driver. he also ended up charged with a dui. right now u.s. prosecutors say they will not retry new jersey senator bob menendez. last fall, his trial ended in a hung jury. menendez faced corruption charges for what prosecutors claimed was a sister senator trading political influence for gifts and campaign contributions. today's filing to dismiss all charges again the senator and his friend ends a five-year investigation. the justice department did not reveal its exact reasons for dropping the case. in philadelphia, a political shake up. long-time congressman bob brady will not run for another term. brady says leaving congress has absolutely nothing to do with the federal investigation involving his 2012 campaign. the 72 year oh says he simply wants to spend more time with his family. our bruce gordon was there as the 20 year congress veteran announced his decision. >> the man who defined blue collar in congress announced his departure wearing a black long sleeved eagles t-shirt and told reporters after 20 years in washington because time to put his family first. >> my daughter, single parent, could use some help. i would like to take my grandchildren to school. i got great grandchild. i have another grandchild on the way. and i just think i choose them. >> brady touted his record in d.c. claiming authorship of 14 bills that ultimately became l law. and noted his cloud in delivering for his constituents. >> i brought back 15.5 billion, with a b, billion dollars to the city of philadelphia and this region. >> in deep blue diss trek brady was never really tested on election day. but a scandal involving payments allegedly made to entice a primary challenger to drop his bid have doing the incumbent. brady was asked whether the controversy had impacted his decision not to run again. my lawyers advised me based on their review of the status of the case and the statue of limitations expiring i will not be charged in this case. >> how has that affected your feelings about the job? >> not at all. >> reporter: not at all. >> no, not at all i know i wouldn't be charged and it wouldn't affect me in any way, shape or form. it wouldn't affect my re-election. >> with republicans in control in washington, democrat brady's power was limited. and while he said his decision to leave was made with mixed emotions, it was clear he will not miss the current partisan gridlock. >> the climate in washington, i don't have to tell you is rigid and it's horrible as can be. >> reporter: how will brady be remembered? i asked the committee 70's david thornburgh. >> the different ways to be a congressman. one is to be champion of a policy issue or proposal or represent your constituents. i think bob brady's style has been more of a problem solver in the city and the region whether labor strike or, you know, welcome america sponsorship or what have you. >> reporter: he was the guy who got it done. >> he was the man on the spot. >> reporter: brady won't be leaving office until next january. between now and then the boundaries of his second congressional district along with the rhett of the states will be redrawn and host of democrats will battle it out to replace him. given the demographics of even an altered pa second, it's likely to stay in democratic hands. but who's?
