Is and how many massive it is. It had multiple centers and now a concentrated center so our computer models are getting a better grip and coming to a better consensus of the track of this storm. Look at this snow inland i just got a report from charleston, south carolina. 6inches of snow. So if charleston gets 6inches, you know that we can we could be in for it the storm will accelerate, intensify as it moves up and off the eastern seaboard. It will bomb out over new england and that means rapidlily intensify. There is a blizzard warning for our shore counties and also sussex county, delaware. A winter storm warning where you see the pink for philadelphia, south jersey and our adjacent suburbs and Winter Weather advisory as you go north and west further await from the storm but everybody sees the snow. Snow rates of one to 2inches an hour in that rapidly intensifying storm especially of course in that blizzard warning down the shore. Down the shore winds gusting to 50 miles an hour and visibility in that blizzard warning area a quarter mile or less obviously hazardous travel. So this is what we expect. With that storm. In the blizzard warning and then some brutal cold thats going to coming in after that. Temperatures right now in the 20s. Wind chills mainly in the teens. Cold enough for all snow and chris, down the shore, it could be just horrific because of the snow obviously the blowing snow, the Poor Visibility and the possibility of Power Outages when brutal cold is going to follow. Reporter thats right, kathy. I just got off the phone with Emergency Managers here in Cape May County. They say blowing and drifting snow and Power Outages are in fact the biggest worries and concerns going to what is now a blizzard warning in effect starting at 9 00 oclock tonight for burlington at, atlantic and cape may counties and if youre a resident down here, youve ever been down here, you know the impacts of a noreaster can have on these barrier islands. Take a look behind me now. What weve been seeing for the past couple of days. Something you dont see very often here in ventnor. And that is a frozen ice covered back bay. Not very good for boaters cant even get through some of this ice. But take look earlier further south down the coast down the delaware bay. Right near the mouth of the Cape May Canal near the cape may lewes ferry the ferry is really being used as its own ties many parts of delaware bay. Actually we just heard this afternoon cape may lewes ferry suspended operations at least through tomorrow. Now the concern for Emergency Managers here Cape May County not necessarily the up to what could be a foot of snow but those Tropical Storm force winds and the potential for those Power Outages in this extreme cold. They fear residents will be without heat for the worst possible time. Now, another problem folks have down here storm surge. Lets bring you back out here live as you see ventnor right now the ice covered bay. Storm surge with those high winds and a near full moon high tide here in ventnor tomorrow at 9 00 oclock in the morning again at 9 00 oclock at night so that storm surge anything of that flooding nature in some of these streets most likely will be frozen. Well bring you back here at 6 00 oclock as Cape May County and the rest of new jersey prepares for what could be a blizzard starting tonight. Back to you, lucy. Well check back in. Thank you chris. Meanwhile in pennsylvania, penndot crews are working very hard to make sure the roads are ready for the snow. Skyfox over penndot truck heading toward norristown treating route 202 near the king of prussia mall this morning. Penndot says it has about three hu50 trucks on hand ready to go. The timing of the storm is certainly a concern for us, it is expected to start as early as i said midnight or early hours of tomorrow morning, um, and continue on through the am rush hour which could pose a bit of a challenge for us. Penndot is asking drivers to get all of that snow and ice off your car before you hit the road for your own sake and for othe others. These frigid temperatures are bursting pipes all across our area. Big ones that carry water to your neighborhood. Smaller ones that carry it to your home. Our bruce gordon live in society hill with whats actually happening to those pipes. Bruce . Reporter lucy, its interesting whats happening below ground really depends on coule of factor factors how deep the pipes are and what the pipes are made of. City Water Department crews were on the scene at second and south streets wednesday afternoon preparing to rip up the street to get at a broken 8inch water main one of slew of breaks that accompanied the plunging temperatures. John, is h2o spokesman. What has this last week or so been like for the Water Department. Its been very challenging. Yesterday alone we repaired at least 15 water main breaks in the city. Reporter part of the problem is that well over half the citys 3200 miles of water pipes are made of cast iron an older type of material thats been out of fashion for decades. Cast iron has no give to it really. Cast iron is very very hard and it doesnt really have any flexibility in the metal. Reporter almost little brittle of sorts. Sure. Reporter water mains are laid at least 4 feet deep below the frost line so the breaks down come from water freezing and expanding. Instead says diguilio its very cold water flowing through pipes that cant always handle it. So when you see water temperatures going through cast iron pipe and the water expanding even though the water isnt freezing the pipes arent freezing youre putting additional stress on a pipe that, you know, doesnt really have much give to it. Reporter but what about those frozen pipes that meet you when you get home from work on a bitter cold day . Thats a different story. Heres a cool video from steve stranglers science on youtube in it they fill a pipe with water, seal both ends so theres no place for it to go, kind of like when you shut off your faucet its a the temperatures drop. Now, they freeze the water. More quickly than usual with liquid nitrogen and for heavens sake. Kaboom a broken pipe, water all over your house and an expensive bill to come. The work you see going on behind me thats Water Department crew working on a water main. Their responsibility. The citys responsibility. You should know Service Lines those are the three quarter copper lines that go from the water main to your home, well, they can of course freeze and break or they can freeze and simply block the water from getting to your home. Either way, if youve got a service line problem, its your responsibility as homeowner. Lucy. That can cost a lot of money. Thank you much, bruce. Reporter models are still developing for noreaster make sure you know the newest information from the Weather Authority with our fox 29 weather app. Youll get live radar and alerts sent right to your phone its free in the i tunes and google play stores. And we have breaking news out of burlington county. Dozen homes evacuated after gas leak in burlington city. Skyfox over the scene this afternoon on salem road. The city says 20inch gas main started leaking right around noon. Pseg crews are on the scene working to cap the leak. We do know they were waiting for the pressure to go down before they can gap it. Crews do not know whether homeowners in the area will be able to get back into their homes tonight so everybody is waiting. The city tells us no crews were working on the main when it actually broke.
