Temperatures make life even harder for firefighters battling the flames. Those bonechilling temperatures get used to them. Theyre sticking around. Now, fox 29 news at 10 00. We begin tonight with that breaking story in delaware county. Video from skyfox shows the daunting task for firefighters. Flames shot high into the air overbrook haven. Good evening, im lucy noland. Im Bill Anderson iain page is off tonight. Those flames forced residents out of the their homes and firefighters right now still working to make sure the fire is out. Fox 29s Shawnette Wilson joins us live from brookhaven. Shawnette . Reporter lucy and bill, tonight initially there were reports of people being trapped inside but fire officials have not been able to confirm that. We do know, however, that there have been no reports of any injuries or transports and that part is good news. But tonight residents are worried that they have lot of everything. Heard a loud knocking on my door, and was told to get out of the building, that there was a fire. And so i didnt hesitate. I just left. Reporter skyfox circled a building at hilltop condominiums on Hilltop Drive in brookhaven as flames were raging from the roof. Residents scrambled to evacuate. Went outside and looked and saw the glow at the top of the building and win i guess maybe five, ten minutes, flames were shooting up. The trucks were arriving and the hoses were being pulled out. Reporter firefighters got the call just before 6 00 this evening. Ladders extended high into the air. They sprayed water until the fire was under control an hour and a half later. Crews inside eventually had to pull out due to a partial collapse of the building. Residents say theyve lost everything. Im out of there. I dont have anything. Reporter james lives down the road but owns unit in building c where it started. Hes concerned about his tenant. Shes 73 years old and the Police Officers told me they got her out. But shes Walking Around here somewhere. I dont know if she has much place to go. Reporter this unit is on the bottom where he believes the sustained mostly water damage but is a total loss. Hes relieved he has insurance. Im just happy nobody got hurt. You know what i moan . The building is can be replaced. Reporter and the red cross is of course on scene. But look at the arctic air. Minneapolis 3 degrees below zero. You Step Outdoors right now, air temperature 29. But factor in that wind it feels like 20 degrees currently in philadelphia. But once again, the arctic air, that is still off to the north and west. Look at the temperatures right now in canada. 33 degrees below zero and some of that arctic air continues to really head in our direction. You can see right now, look at the feels like temperature mount pocono 0o feels like nine in readig. Feels like the 20s elsewhere. Oneman crime spree that ends with an officer opening fire. Police say it started when the guy targeted a woman unloading christmas presents from her car. Fox 29s Dave Schratwieser following this story fours. Hes live in University City with all the details. Dave . Reporter bill, the suspect is still in stable condition here at penn Presbyterian Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest after he was shot by Police Investigators saying this all started with a carjacking early this morning of a woman who was unloading Christmas Gifts from her car. It was just before 9 00 Tuesday Morning when police say a man walked into this corner deli at 52nd and irving and pulled a gun on a customer. A frightened deli employee spoke to us about the robbery from behind a bullet proof shield tuesday night. Customer fired. You say no fire. You go out. Get out. Reporter Police Say Surveillance cameras were rolling as the man stole cash from the customer. He got into the stolen chevy tracks parked nearby and took off. Police gave chase and a few blocks away he crashed. Thats when a plain clothes officer approach the suspect behind the wheel and identified himself. The operator made movements, gestures, to his waistband despite the officers orders. During the course of that confrontation the officer did discharge his firearm. Reporter the 21yearold suspect was shot one time in the chest and take to penn presbyterian trauma unit. The gun toting suspect had stolen the suv from a young woman as she unloaded christmas presents from the vehicle in front of her house on the 5200 block of church road hours earlier. We got two robberies. One of which this morning was point of gun which was broadcast to the officer. Reporter investigators say the suspect took the vehicle with the christmas presents inside. He then used the suv in the deli prob brie. At some point theyll be getting a warrant to search the car. Reporter now police have not yet recovered a weapon. Were told that this suspect will be charged with carjacking, robbery and weapons offenses. According to Police Sources he has eight prior arrests four this year alone and he he was out on bail at the time of this incident. Bill . Unbelievable. Thanks, dave. Bethlehem police say an Armored Vehicle called a bear cat saved lives when a man started firing off rounds at officers during a standoff. Officials say that bare cat took at least 26 shots during the incident. Investigators say 36yearold Justin Kephart shot and killed his mother at her home on the 1500 block of dennis street on friday. Then started firing at police who arrived at the scene. After several hours long Standoff Police say kephart shot and killed himself. Northampton county coroner says kepharts father also took his own live in his home yesterday. Investigators dont know what sparked fridays violence, but say that kephart had ongoing issues with his mother. Abington investigators are trying to figure out what started a house fire this afternoon. Skyfox over the scene aft the flames broke out at the home on the 400 block of susquehanna road. Took firefighters about an hour and a half to knock it down. The damage is significant as you can see but nobody is injured. The Burlington County fire marshal is investigating a barn fire in chesterfield township. Skyfox over the raging fire earlier on the 100 block of bordentowngeorgetown road much as you can see, the flames shooting out of the roof. This fire started right around 4 00 this afternoon. It was brought under control just two hours later. Were told thankfully no animals or people were injured. Happening right now, from giving gifts to receiving and returning them. In the northeast a water main break created an icy mess. The break happened at about 6 00 45 this morning at the intersection of willits and excess exeter near home avenue. Police were called in to stop traffic in the area. The Water Department is still working to get this repaired. The break did not impact Water Service to any local homes. Its a different story for people in norristown because about a dozen customers did lose their Water Service earlier this morning due to water main break. In the 200 block of west Germantown Pike. The water quickly froze over and water crews shut down traffic in the westbound lanes of Germantown Pike to make repairs. The break is fixed and all service has been restored. If you think its colder here in the delaware valley, look at what they have been dealing with in erie, pennsylvania. The city on the shore of lake erie just got slammed with 53inches of snow in just 30 hours. That is more than 4 feet and it smashed local and state records. This is all lake effect snow, my friends. Even though the snow stopped falling state police are still urging folks to just say off the roads while crews work very hard to try and clear them. When it comes to the weather, folks may remember 2017 as the year of devastating back to back hurricanes or the year of so many destructive wildfires out west and Scientists Say 2017 could become the second warmest year on record.
