To night police have the driver in custody. But friends and family of that little boy are left without him just days before christmas. Fox 29s Dave Schratwieser is live at Philadelphia Police headquarters. Dave . Reporter lucy, not only is the driver in custody but they have recovered the van in this fatal car crash. According to investigators, the driver was speeding and weaving through traffic at the at the time time of the crash. He did take off High Ranking Police sources tell me tonight he has been driving on a suspe suspended license and has more than 50 prior tickets. Very sad and sad five days before christmas. Joe netta fought back tears as she described her efforts to comfort an eightyearold boy after a horrific crash at whitaker and wednesday afternoon that cost the young boy his life. I was trying to talk to the little boy. Telling him to hold on and, um, it just started to making nois noises. Like he cant breathe. Reporter accident investigators say the crash occurred just after 2 00 as the little boy and his father were driving down whitaker. Her car was broad sided by a late Honda Odyssey van that kept on going. The van hit the side where the little boy was actually at. Reporter police tell fox 293 people in second car stopped wolf got out to assist the victim while the driver followed the fleeing vehicle and called police. The fleeing driver was stomped by police at van kirk and front knack where he was taken into custody. That corner is real bad. I dont like it at all. He was taken to the hospital. He is now in custody. Police tell me tonight they did take a blood sample trying to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved in this crash. Police need your help to try and catch a bank robber in Delaware County man with a gun walked into the Malvern Federal Savings Bank on Baltimore Pike in Concord Township and demanded money. Authorities say the man was wearing a black mask, white fishing hat also put a device on the counter and said it was bomb after getting the money he took off in a silver pontiac. The bomb squad later determined while the device looked like the real deal, it was not. Right now republican lawmakers are celebrating their first major legislative victory of the trump presidency. The house and the senate have both passed the largest tack reform in decades. President trump has yet to sign the bill into law that could happen next week. But he applauded their efforts as a major victory for the american people. Of course, this bill has its detractors. Lawmakers debated the tax bill for weeks and late last night the senate voted along marty lines and passed it the house then had to revote today after hiccups yesterday. And passed it there as well. The bill delivers a steep tax cut for corporations dropping the rate from 35 to 21. And bringing down most individual tax rates as well at least temporarily. Democratic lawmakers call eight sham. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi saying its simply is a tax break for the rich. We are going to bring at least 4 trillion back into this country money that was frozen overseas and in parts and worlds and some of them dont even like us and they had the money. No one was hurt there wasnt even any wreckage according to penndot but when a crane operator misjudged the weight of his sign by 15,000 pounds this morning at an i95 job site in croydon huge traffic jam ensued. Crane inspector tom barth told me on the phone its nearly always human error. Careless not knowing the weight of the load, not setting the crane up properly, you know, i dont know about this. Was it on mass, was the ground soft. Did they set it up properly . I dont have a clue. When an accident happens, its carelessness. Reporter barth adds that he doesnt think crane operators get enough real world training any more. Here in philly, no one was that surprised at the mishap. It doesnt surprise me at a all. Just lucky nobody died. Reporter yeah. It did stop traffic but reporter everywhere in the city these days much cranes of all sizes and sorts for some people that means building and that means jobs. Crane accidents happen. Jeff abram mow witnesses of National Work force Opportunity Network says all operators need top training. That means osha certifications, that means giving them some, you know, going back and giving them the max math and reading support sometimes they need and getting them into trade programs that really teach them the basic and then get them on to the on the job trainings where they can experience the work site first hand. Reporter because of the hopewell officers the dog was back playing in her yard with her dog sister even back chasing ducks but shes only doing it because the officers selfless actions. Good girl. The dog had gone under for about maybe five seconds and came back up. Officer peterson also one of my personal best friends. I trust him with my life. I said when i get this dog, i want to you gang us out. Reporter social media is exploding with thanks for the officers actions and pointing out theyre willingness to risk themselves for the roti but the officers they just acted as if it comes with the territory. Its about 20 degrees out just finish showing, and i have four month old puppy at home so my heart was racing.
