in the planes we do have cold front that will be coming through tonight, and that will bring some showers along with it. so as we look ahead, we're talking about some rain overnight. and then also some wind. we'll talk more about that with your travel weather as you hit the roads coming up later in the broadcast. i'll is he you then. >> i have family traveling as we speak, kathy. thank you very much. >> live lock at the ben franklin parkway where road closures are just about ready to kick in ahead of thursday's thanksgiving day parade. be sure to stay with fox 29 on air, online and on our social media pages for breaking news, traffic and weather. a local family is speaking out hoping to get justice in a hit-and-run two teens who the driver did hit should be fine but police have no trace of the person behind the wheel. >> they were hit over the weekend in the city's hospital umps burg section. >> fox 29's dawn timmeney spoke to one of the victims and her family. joins us in studio. >> lucy and iain it's hard to imagine a driver hitting two teenagers, barely stopping and just leaving them helpless and scared on the side of the road. well now that teen's family is pleading for the driver to turn himself in. >> i just want to know who did it. and why they would just leave a kid like that. >> reporter: this mother of five is irate. christina page says her 14-year-old daughter leanne and a friend were hit by a car saturday night just after 5:00 o'clock. teens were walking home from the dunkin' donuts on frankford avenue in the holmesburg second of the city when they say car veered into them by the dining car restaurant and then took just took off. >> i just remember being in the air. that's all i really remember. i was scared for my life. >> reporter: leanne flew into the car's windshield before rolling on to the ground her 16-year-old friend hurt his arm and leg. she says the driver stopped only to ask if they were okay and quickly sped off. >> even the cars behind him didn't even offer to help us. >> but he didn't. >> he didn't at all. nobody did. >> reporter: leanne hobbled home, scared, shocked and sore. her stunned family immediately called an ambulance. the teen rushed to aria torresdale hospital. >> she has one cut that need add stitch. another cut that needed to be glued. her whole back looks like a tiger attacked her from all the glass cuts. >> reporter: her 12-year-old brother jason was also with her and witnessed the horror. >> i got worried at first but now i'm just mad they can't find him or anything. he's in the in jail right now. >> reporter: what would you say to this person? >> why would you leave? no matter what, why would you leave? it's only worse now. >> reporter: the teens say the car was gray in color possible al 2022005 ford and have a smashed front whimmed windshield and busted right head headlights. the driver is in his 60s. police are asking anyone with information on the driver or what happened to please come forward. >> lucy. >> hopefully they do soon, thank you dawn. one man is in custody after gunshots in mill creek, delaware, home. skyfox over route 2 and lawrence of a right around com this afternoon. pleats went there for welfare check when they got that they heard a gun firing. police arrested the person at the home. that person is now at a hospital for evaluation. police arrest a man they suspect of killing an officer near pittsburgh. authorities arrested 29-year-old rah mel holt who they believe shot and killed 25-year-old police officer brian shaw tuesday morning. at a news conference police say holt fired at least six shots at shaw after being held up at a traffic stop. shaw walk wearing a bullet proof vest but still died from his injuries. funeral services will be held for the officer tomorrow. how would you like to see the ceiling of your bedroom in your home collapse to the floor blow? clearly you would not like that. but what if it wasn't the first time something like that had happened? long-time resident of a philadelphia housing authority property doesn't have to imagine that scenario at all because she's lived it. so she reach out to fox 29 and bruce gordon who joins us in studio. bruce? >> reporter: lucy the phrase roof over your head that's more than a slogan. the supposed to symbolize the protect of your home, but when the ceilings of that home cave in, and more than once, something has got to change. >> 69-year-old yolanda carter has her eyes on the sweet potato pies hot from the officer of oven in the kitchen of her long time more at the cecil b. moore pub look housing complex. in may of last year this kitchen scene was not so serene. >> my grandson was coming this way and he said grandmom, look out! by the time i looked up the ceiling was coming down. >> reporter: literally came down on your head. >> came down or my head. >> reporter: for three years she's been battling flying critters are termite or carpenter ants that destroyed one living room window sill and badly damaged another and then back in july of this year -- >> my granddaughter, she was up here, and she said, oh, my god! >> reporter: ceiling of this upstairs bedroom collapsed. >> it was just -- just came down. >> reporter: revealing what appeared to be badly stained insulation that looked like it had been chewed on. >> i'm like, i have to get out of here. that was my first thought. i said before this place actually cave in. >> reporter: that bedroom ceiling collapse happened four months ago. and the philadelphia housing authority still hasn't repair the mess. what to do? >> you just can't just hold your rent and say oh i'm holding my rent. uh-uh because the law is not going to back you. >> reporter: she set up an escrow account at the bank and now has four months worth of rent payments near a thousand dollars worth sitting and waiting. >> this is where my rent is at. and this is where it's going to stay. >> reporter: i'm just wonder wagon the status of that situation might be and when she might be be able to expect someone to come out and do the repairs? >> i called the pha on yolanda's behalf a short time later, she received a visit from the authority and a promise they'll be out next monday to make the necessary repairs. if they fail to show, you're willing to keep putting this money into escrow. >> yes. hey, or until the testify termites chew it up. report roar the house disappears? [ laughter ] >> reporter: well, aft hearing nothing from pha all afternoon we got call from spokesman literally moments ago. disputing almost completely yolanda's version of events including that scheduled repair work on monday. the spokesman says the pha will press miss carter to move into a smaller one person unit or attempt to evict her for brea breaking their residency rules at her current releasing this video from the family dollar store on west cheltenham avenue. they say a man burst in demanded money. he had his hand in his pocks so he acted like he was armed. police say he grabbed 65 bucks from the register and took off. it all happened saturday. if you know anything, call police. it has been two months now since hurricane maria ripped through puerto rico. killing dozens and leaving more than half of that island without power. so in its wake, islanders have left in search of more stable conditions. >> one of their destinations according to new report from the office of emergency management is the city of brotherly love. >> fox 29's joyce evans is in north philadelphia with one family's story. >> reporter: the young father and husband we met has been through you know where and back but that guy is still smiling. >> i'm starting from scratch over here. >> reporter: really. >> zero, yes. >> reporter: text-year-old gene pimento arrived philadelphia just aunt month ago. he was trying to stick it out in puerto rico after hurricane maria ripped it apart. leaving his family without electricity, water, a way to get to work or to school. >> we have to go -- weak up early in the morning 4:00, 5:00 until morning and like do a big line for ice, for water, for gasoline. >> reporter: not enough to sustain his pregnant wife, three small kids and his grandmother. >> there was no hospitals open. report roar his sister here in philadelphia found a way to fly them all out. gene had no other option. he adores his sister for that but now what? >> we're just trying to find a job. it's really hard. >> reporter: he came to philadelphia's disaster assistance services sent. >> just for help, you know. >> reporter: he waited his turn to register with the host of agencies from fema and pema to the salvation army, departments of health and human services, even the small business administation. >> i'm like stressing out. >> reporter: gene is one of more than 1300 hurricane survivors. the office of emergency management reports to have already registered here for help with housing, medical services, identification and boxes of personal searches. and they just set up one month ago. still gene wants back on his feet fast. to take care of his own. >> my kids, my family, you know, and of course, i have god in my life so that's what keeps me smiling. >> reporter: we have all that information for help on our website fox 29.com. we had to leave before gene got through the entire process, but he did let us know that he came away immediately with a very generous gift card so he can buy some search for his family goat on the list for housing also got on the list for job interviews. this guy is really thankful. but he says he'll take any kind of job. tonight. look at that. it is lit. getting ready for the holiday. temperatures are in the 50s. so it's very comfortable. 54 right now in philadelphia. the high today 59 degrees. it's only 41 in the poconos. 45 in allentown. little bit of wind in dover. those southerly winds keeping it pretty warm or mild overnight tonight. on ultimate doppler you can see the northeast. we have few clouds rolling in the big story will be the rain. these showers will be moving through. so didn't like like it was going to be big deal earlier in the week but now it's going to team up with a coastal low to provide more rain just in time for the morning rush if you have to work tomorrow morning. so we'll watch this front. it's going get closer overnight tonight. originally it look like a few showers overnight. but now we have this area of low pressure that's going to catch a ride thon front and it's going pull in some of that moisture. so enhancing the moisture tomorrow morning 7am, 8:00 a.m. you can see it right there on our fox future cast and then everything moves offshore by about ten, 11:00 o'clock in the morning. so we'll start off with some rain. and then we'll end up with some sunny skies. as we take look at the hour by hour on this, you can see the southerly winds clear skies tonight. the clouds will be rolling in during the late night hours then tomorrow the rain gets end hasn'ted. 6am, 7:00 a.m. f you'll be traveling along the i-95 corridor south jersey tomorrow morning going over the commodore barry bridge or even the delaware memorial bridge, you're going to be seeing some rain. then by the afternoon looking at northwesterly winds. some cooler air moving in on the back side of that front and it will be pretty gusty. overnight tonight, 50 in philadelphia. 44 degrees in pottstown. from in allentown. in dover it will be 51. tomorrow we'll be seeing those morning showers giving way to some wind with temperatures actually falling through the 40s in the afternoon. those southwesterly winds becoming northwesterly, 1520 miles an hour gusting to about 25. take look at thanksgiving day. your travel forecast looking good 40s and 50s in the northeast. 60s and 70s to the south and even through the midwest chicago at 53. that's a decent thanksgiving. for here at home we're talking about the temperature right around 47 degrees. mostly sunny. a bit of a fall chill. on your seven day forecast from the weather authority, thursday 47. black friday looks great for the shoppers. saturday a chance of shower. the high near 60. for the birds it's going to be interesting. some wind, the possibility of some showers and falling temperatures through the 40s and then monday and tuesday temperatures getting back up around 50 degrees. so far so good at least no storms to
