The fire was so intense almost 24 hours later it still not safe for crews to go inside leaving many questions for families. Heres what we know so far. The fire started last night around 11 00 at the barclay friends Senior Living community. Right now Chester County emergency Officials Say at least 27 people taken to the hospital for treatment. But many are not accounted for. The blaze so destruction tift Atf National Response Team is being called in to investigate. Our Shawnette Wilson is live at the scene in west chester with the latest. Shawnette . Reporter well, dawn you mentioned nearly 24 hours and you are exactly right. Take look behind me. You can see that crews are still here on scene spraying hot spots on the facility which is still flaring up and as we mentioned tonight we still dont know if everyone inside made it out okay. Investigators are saying that its been too dangerous to get inside the building to be sure, and also, people who evacuated may have gone different places to other Health Facilities or they may have gone with family members. So were told it could be monday before we no for sure. Skyfox flew over Barclay Friends Senior Assisted Living Center in west chester as crews were into new day working to put out a fire that reached five alarms. Tonight firefighters were still hosing hot spots from the fire that started before 11 00 oclock thursday night. Were family oriented. With our family when our family is not around rt report tammy young had the day off but heard through other employees that the place shes worked for over 21 years as intersection assistant was burning. It hurts. Ts. Just making sure that everybody is safe. Because we really care about our residents. Reporter investigators say the building is too unsafe for crews to go inside, and they still dont know for one made the out. First responders along with volunteers frankly, um, worked to evacuate, help evacuate the residents and the Staff Members at the center. Um, at this point were still compiling lists and working the lists with the owners of the facility itself. Reporter the fire was fast moving and eventually forked firefighters to pull out. To the extent that one much our firefighters went as far as he could until he started feeling his helmet actually start to melt. Reporter 27 people were treated at three area hospitals of the at last report, 17 were still getting care. During a late News Conference officials said they didnt know if sprinklers had gone off or if the building had fire walls. Right now, though, their main focus is on tracking down everyone who was and side a big concern for young. Its hard, because we do have some that, um, are really hard to manage, you know, and with dementia and things like that going on, and you go to pull a resident out and youre rushing because youre scared, theyre scared and they don know whats going on. Now we mentioned just a moment ago that the atf is responding they investigate hundreds of scenes but most notable, theyve been activated for the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing and also 9 11. Chris . All right, shawnette, thanks. Now tonight many of those fire evacuees every still trying to find other place toss live but many of them say theyre just lucky to have made out alive. Bruce gordon continues our coverage with the emotional toll of the barclay friends fire. Reporter as firefighters doused the smoldering wreckage of what was once barclay friends the remnants of a night of terror sat roadside out front. Nursing home neighbor sandy de phillips reflected on the site outside her front window late thursday night. Oh, my gosh. I was just shocked. Reporter wind swept flames engulfed much of the huge facility before the first firefighters could arrive. And so de phil license and her neighbors including students from West Chester University raced over bringing clothing to warm the victims. Got blankets around some of the residents who were out there in their robes, their slippers, no coat, um, no shoes. Reporter what was their demeanor at this point. You know their demeanor was calm. They were calm. Reporter scores of elderly residents some in ill health had to be moved quickly from the fire scene. They need add wheelchair, and i was like, well, i dont know. I had one in my garage. I ran home and got my wheelcha wheelchair. Reporter then came the chaos of linking residents to frantic family members. She ran home once again to grab her cell phone. I made phone calls for them, um, to their families to let them know, looked up their, you know, sons name who lived in the area. Called him. Reporter all day friday family members came to the fire scene to reflect on their near loss. Pete petty 96yearold motherinlaw was inside. She lost everything. Everybody in there lost everything i guess. But shes fine. Thats the main thing. Reporter 95yearold Lucille Stanton got out as well. Her daughter stacey still reliving the phone call saying the place was on fire. Panic. Because you want her to be okay. Reporter on the morning after nearly everyone we met said the same thing. It could have been worse. And it would have been were it not for neighbors like sandy de phillips. I just felt like i had had to do it. Im a neighbor here. Im community. Theyre part of the community. Reporter still lots of questions about the cause of the fire, the extent of the injuries. Possible fatalities. But whatever we learn is pretty clear the folks in this neighborhood made a bad situation a little bit better. In west chester, im Bruce Gordon Fox 29 news. Philly Rapper Meek Mill may have another day in court but so far nothing is on the schedule. Meek mill whose real name is Robert Williams was sentenced to two to four years in prison aft parole violations. His attorney tells fox 29 a new bail hearing was granted for late november but we have learned that may have been a clerical error. Court spokesperson tells us no bail hearing is schedule. The judge who sentenced meek mill is coming under fire from celebrities like jayz and former sixer julius irving. Police warning parents tonight in West Oak Lane and Strawberry Mansion to keep an eye out on their sons. They say theres a man going around trying to abduct boys and showing them pornographic pictures in one case he offered a boy money to expose himself and its not the first time this happened. Its happened multiple times. Our dave kinchen has the creepy details. Hes live outside Philadelphia Police headquarters with this one. Dave . Parents are unthey have beened with all of these developments and police are asking anyone with information to give them help in solving this crime. Reporter which is why Shamika Robinson a mother of two boys is shocked to hear a man is cuecued of trying to lure youngn in the West Oak Lane area. I hope the cops catch him real soon he shouldnt be out on the streets doing stuff like that. Reporter Philadelphia Police say on thursday a man in a two hoy door dark kay nissan offered a victim 20 bucks to expose his genitals and drove alongside the victim repeated the perverted offer while raising the am of cash i tell my kids to protect themselves and not talk to strangers at all. They can pull up in a car, im looking for my lost puppy. You scream and run away and tell another adult what happened. He did something similar on the 6600 block of stenton this morning approaching a victim asking for weed and asking if he wanted to make cash performing a second act on him or the other away. He allegedly showed the victim porn. This is the suspected vehicle scene in surveillance images. Its so were. Its so weird. Investigators linked the suspect to case back in may captured on video where a boy gets into a car only to be assaulted by the driver had then goes after the boys younger brother. The description are very very similar. The mo is very very similar so we believe its the same offender in all three these jo jobs. What kind of person do you have to be to find pleasure in doing stuff like that . Its just so odd. Reporter in doubt about that. Police believe the suspect is a black mail with a light complexion between 25 and 30 years old. They also say that he has long chest len black hair an mustache and beard as well. Investigators believe a group of ten to 12 people are responsible for the vandalism. It is the latest in a string of vandalism aimed at Philadelphia Police in recent months. Reporter strong criticism from police after vandals struck on south street overnight defacing a police mini station with red paint and busting out car windows on two police vehicles. Thats two cars that are out of service before you even get to the damage and financial costs. Its just frustrating because its going to be my taxpayer money that will have to pay for it to get cleaned up and all the stuff fixed. Reporter as work crews cleaned up police told fox 29 the vandals struck around 11 00 thursday night here in the 900 block of south street. Police cameras and private surveillance equipment captured a group of about ten to 12 men dressed all in black fleeing the scene. You have an issue with Law Enforcement some shape or fashion which is your right, its not the way to do it. Reporter police also recovered glass bod bottles filled with red paint. A smoke grenade and a hammer protrudingprotruding from a smae car window along with anarchists anti police familiar lets on the roadway. Some of the most idiotic, cowardly behavior ive ever seen.
