And breaking to night, a massive manhunt is over. A suspected killer captured after a deadly shooting spree in two states. Now fox 29 news at 10 00. Breaking news, a man wanted for shooting six people across two states is captured after hours on the run. Police brought him into custody in newark, delaware. Tonight we talk to the people right there as he was arrested. Thanks for joining us im iain page. Im dawn timmeney. Lucy is off tonight. Scary situation unfolding all day and all night. Right now, fox 29 news bringing you Team Coverage from newark to wilmington, delaware. We begin with our Chris Oconnell live in wilmington with the very latest. Chris. Reporter well, dawn, ten hours after police say he opened fire on his maryland workplace, 37yearold radee prince is in custody tonight after they say he killed three people and injured three more in two shootings in two states. Tonight, he is in custody being questioned by Wilmington Police detectives after a day long tense search for a killer. Radee prince in handcuffs being he is cored into the Wilmington Police station after a day long multi state manhunt. At 70 00 5 00 p. M. Suspect was taken in Police Custody after a brief foot chase from these three three agents from the atf and during the foot chase, our suspect did discard 380 firearm. Reporter it all started before 9 00 this morning. Edgewood, maryland, when police say prince walked into his workplace advance Granite Solutions and started shooting at coworkers. Three were left dead. Two more were injured. They were screaming. I could tell something wasnt right. They needed help and they said call 911 shoot someone is shooting next door. Reporter prince took off. He drove app hour an 45 minutes to wilmington where he we were into this car dealership on northeast boulevard and shot the opener of that business twice. Hes expected to survive. Investigators say prince knew all of his victims in both locations. He knew everyone of the people that he shot. And he had some type of relationship and they knew him. Reporter princes suv was ditched in newark, delaware, earlier tonight. And thanks to a tip from the public, police moved in. 3atf agents from baltimore made the arrest. Police wonder why prince georges who had been arrested 42 times and convicted of 15 past felonies was still on the streets. If someone will be violent in the community, if theres violent people are causing carnage in the community we got to find way to keep them behind bars. Reporter now, prince remains behind bars here tonight at the Wilmington Police department. His First Court Appearance will be tomorrow on the shooting and at some point hell be brought to maryland to face murder charges. Now, for more on the arrest of radee prince i my colleague dave kinchen joining us live now from newark, delaware. Dave . Reporter chris, we spoke to neighbors who live near the spot where this all went down. They say they watched the whole case unfold throughout the day through media reports but never thought the manhunt would end in their backyard. Im at a loss for words at the moment. Reporter multi state manhunt for the man wanted for three murders in maryland and the shooting of another man in delaware ends in the thorn Wood Development in newark. Stunning residents. Just shocking, you know, in your hometown to think this is going on especially in my little development, you know. Reporter police were called to the area of four seasons parkway and clover mill drive after learning suspect radee prince was believed to be there. What happened next would shake up a whole community. I drove home to call my friend and my friend shes like i cant talk, i cant talk, im two car lengths in front of the guy that theyve been looking for. Our neighbor came in and she said something crazy is going on. We need to get in the house. And then, this all happened a few minutes later. Im in shock because i heard he was in baltimore which my husband just left to go there then i heard he was in wilmington and then up and down 95. So ive been nervous that hes in the area, where is he run to go,. Reporter fox 29 cameras rolling as New Castle County police drove prince away a woman who says she knows him tells fox 29 she cant believe the allegations of murder. That boy had a good up bringing it wasnt like he was a mad man or he was a crazed maniac because he wasnt. Reporter newark neighbors are just glad the search is ov over. In way its very thrilling that they got this guy. Terrible, terrible news you know. For what he did, you know, to all these people very upsetting. Reporter meantime, Court Records show that prince had been involved in a personal injury Court Case Involving the person he shot in delaware but, again, police really digging into find more on a ,2 possible motive. Philadelphia Police Investigating after two teens are shot in the citys West Oak Lane area. 17yearold boy shot and killed. Police say they got the call around 7 30 tonight. And when they got there they found the teen shot in the head and chest. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Then on etting Street Police say a 1684 old shot multiple times in the groin he was rushed to a hospital. He is in Critical Condition right now. Police do not have any suspects in either of these cases. To West Oak Lane now, where a burglar ends up dead after bursting into a full house. The family is now speaking out to fox 29 about the traumatic moments that unfolded when they say two strange men turned up inside. A teenaged boy is being credited with saving his family. Fox 29s Dave Schratwieser live at Police Headquarters with the latest on this one. Dave . Reporter dawn, family members told me it was complete bedlam inside their home on 65th street just before midnight when those two burglars broke in. They say they were attacking family members when the teenager stepped in to help. Thats my baby. I love him. Reporter Candace Johnson is the first one to tell you how proud she is of her 14yearold son quadir after he confronted two burglars inside her home on 65th street tuesday night. I thought they had guns. It was just crazy. It was just it was like a movie it happened so fast i was so scared. I never been through anything like that in my life. Im saying hes going to kill you. My mom yelling the top of her lungs. Reporter it was then he stepped in. He quickly tried to get his sister out of the house then came to his moms rescue. I saw them fighting my mom boyfriend i had to establish him. I got the knife and then my sister was froze at the door. I had to get her outside the house. Reporter intruder an accomplice fled the house with the kitchen knife hill still in his back. Police say he collapsed block away on the front steps of another home the knife still in tack. He was pronounced at the scene. He believes he was the man of the house. Im going to step up and do something. Reporter mom site detectives arrived on the scene the suss spec identified as 42yearold craig jones who police say has 20 prior arrests. Police believe the suspects followed johnsons boyfriend home from this neighborhood bar and forced their way into the house looking to rob him. Johnson was injured in the melee. I was petrified. Just like i was just in shock. I just that was not even thinking at that point in time. What the hell . Reporter what was the main thing in your head at that point. I have to protect my familiarly. Very proud of him. Very proud of him. Very much so. It took guts. I couldnt do it. I couldnt have done it. Reporter now, quadir was not injured in the melee. Homicide detectives are still investigating but hes not expected to be charged in this case. Also looking for a second suspect who got away. Iain . All right, dave. Incredible stuff, thank you. Jerry sandusky will not get a new trial on child sex abuse charges. A judge today denied the request from the former penn state assistant football coach. Sandusky says he was wrongly convicted for sexually abusing young boys. He argued he had ineffective council the 73yearold also claimed prosecutors should have disclosed more details about changes in victims stories. The judge says the bulk of sanduskys claims lacked merit he is serving a 30 to 60 year sentence. A new clue tonight in the search for a driver in a deadly hitandrun. Philadelphia police just released a picture of a gray van theyre looking for in connection with the incident. The police say a 57yearold man using a cane was crossing south 67th sunday night when gray van hit him. The van described as Dodge Caravan or maybe a chrysler town and country. It may have front end damage and a broken windshield. Theres a lot of heavy news going on and this is a good one off the charts. Eagles defensive end chris long scored big points in the hearts of philly fans he made major announcement at a local charter school. He is donating, get this, the rest of this years paychecks to pay for childrens education. Fox 29s Shawnette Wilson was at the announcement tonight and is live at penns landing. Quite a generous offer. Reporter yeah, dawn, listen to this. As you know chris long plays in front of millions right but he says that he is the most nervous talking to high school students. Well tonight i would definitely say he had the perfect game plan announcing a 100,000 donation the perfect ice breaker. [ applause ] reporter eagles defensive end chris long walked into a room full of about 50 excited teens. But his big score with them has nothing to do with his performance on the field. Chris is playing the whole season without collecting a paycheck. Is that awesome or what . [ applause ] reporter long attend add fall celebration for summer search philadelphia a mentoring organization that works with teens from low income families from tenth grade until they finish college. He came to announce his donation of 100,000 to the summer search education program. Two other cities where hes played will also get money from his donated game checks. Wanteed to something that, n would affect kids that arent going to get scholarship to private school and not necessarily thats better or worse but, um, Everybody Needs resources. Reporter long started with the motivational speech that left each student with somethi something. He said live is short and then you got to be be the spark that makes everyone smile. He felt like our generation is the one that can change how we feel today, whats going on today. Like basically that we are the generation thats impacting whats going to happen to our future. Reporter sylvia watts mc kenny the executive director says shes thankful long is using his platform and athletic success for good. There is no reason why a child in urban america cannot have the same education as a child who lives in more communities where the more prosperous. Long had a networking session with the kids. They talked to him about their experiences taking trips to nicaragua and costa rica hiking and canoe. What we can all agree on for sure that can help our country, it is pouring more into our youth and into equity in education and opportunity in education. Reporter so this donation is actually part of a much larger campaign. Long is donating to two other cities where hes played before and hes also asking athletes and fans to get on board and donate, because the city that raises the most money will actually get an additional 50,000 from long. The nfl commissioner says players should stand for the National Anthem. So what now kristen. The commissioner says theres no new rule and owners who try to force players to stand Roger Goodell didnt want to talk about it. All right. Angry, scared, local parents marching to their kids school. Man is behind bars tonight after police say he robbed a woman at knife point at a newark gas station. Scott nichols is facing a long list of charges including robbery. The incident happened back in september. Police say surveillance cameras caught nichols walking up to a woman at her car at sunoco station on mouth south main street pointing a knife and demanding money. People in coatesville are upset about what theyre calling racist incidents. Parents of kids at Coatesville High School are not only keeping their kids home but theyre also marching to the school. Our jeff cole talked with some students and parents. Rue. Reporter not far from School District grounds protesters urged motorists to blow their horns against racism. They say theyre outraged over an ugly display depicting the lynching of a black child found in the High School Locker room. It was disgusting. It was a little girl doll being hung. It was unbearable. Reporter School District says the doll hanging from the ceiling which fox 29 will not show was placed there by a member of the Cross Country te team. Later images appeared online of pumpkins carved with kkk and swastikas with what appears to be students in the background. Fearing racial tension in the high school, james king kept his son shaheem home wednesday. I kept him home because im worried about him. Im worried somebody might do something to him and if he tries to retaliate or defend himself, hell be a victim. Honk against racism. Reporter the group of about a dozen protesters marched to the schools where 200 students joined them in a loud but ordinarily rally. Seeing things like this going on its not us. Its not what we do. This is what we do. We come together as one. Reporter some parents charged the district has under played the incident and failed to quickly act. The superintendent says theyre talking to students about race and investigating the doll incident. These acts will not define us. Racism will not be tolerated in the coatesville area School District, and we will continue to spend every day and educate students, staff and our community to make sure that we have a school that is inclusive and tolerant of the difference that is we value. Reporter the district says its asked police to determine whether this is a hate crime. Cross country runners say it was not. What seems clear is that racial tensions exist here. In coatesville, im jeff cole, fox 29 news. Upper darby police are getting extra training when it comes to responding to intense racial incidents. A company that trains officers to do just that visiting the department today. Teaching the officers Emotional Intelligence which will help them deal with people in crisis and how to deal with and deescalate situations. The goal is to build community trust. Its important that the officers have all the tools that they can have to deal with the community at large. As i said, were a melting pot. Upper darby is a melting pot and i want to make sure everybody is treated fairly and that the officers are treated fairly. Upper darby police chose six officers to attend the training. The department is going to then have those officers train the rest of the force. Nfl players can continue taking a knee during the National Anthem without penalty but the league Still Believes the athletes should stand. Fox 29s Kristen Rodgers is here. I guess nothing really change. Iain no policy changes. No clear yes or no either but Roger Goodell says players should stand for the National Anthem. Goodell spoke today after League Meetings when asked if there would be repercussions from owners who want their teams to stand like jerry jones does with the cowboys, goodell said he quote couldnt deal with hypotheticals. For now these meetings are really just continuing the discussion. We believe that our players should stand for the National Anthem. Thats an important part of our game and our moment and we believe in that. I think we also have to keep focus on this. We have about six or seven players that are involved with this protest at this point. And this is something that what we try to do is deal with the underlying issue and understand what it is that theyre protesting and try to address that matter. Were not afraid of the tough conversations. Thats what were having with our players. Thats what we had yesterday to make sure we understand one another and understand where theyre coming from. And i think out of those discussions they understand that the owners and the nfl really do care about their issues and what we can do to make the communities better.
