Know. Steve . Reporter yes, were entering a third hour of the eastbound lanes shutdown. And as we get further into the morning, traffic is building, and making the situation for commuters a lot worse. Because 5 00 a. M. Really starts to build up the morning rush hour around philadelphia and this may be the busiest rode through philadelphia. What happened was on the eastbound lanes, around 3 00 this white acura being driven by a woman got into a collision with one of two motorcyclists riding close together. The other cyclist, witness, is the man you see right along the median here, and maybe in the dark you can make out hes wearing Harley Davidson jacket. And hes 31 years old. And he called his father right away, and we got some information from what he told his father secondhand that they were riding, nothing unusual, and this car hit his friends. We dont know what happened beyond that. But we know his friends was killed, despite being this close to Penn Presbyterian Trauma Center probably one of the best in the country. You can see the westbound lanes are going, but traffic is building, youll see the brake light fly on, when people are doing like 60 miles an hour minimum, as they come up on this curve and this traffic scene. As the traffic builds up, normally bumper to bumper later in the morning, but people are jamming on their brakes in the westbound lanes, and that is also a slight problem. They have, bob, as you in the to the left here, reopened some of the detour. They moved up the detour route, so now this road now, well, dont see any traffic, thats warfield the local street, and thats the only way to get around this earlier. But this onramp here closest to the scene now has been getting some use. Here comes some traffic. So we spin around, get right back on the schuylkill. So trying to ease the detour, because they know whenever they have a fatal crash they got to keep this thing shutdown until fatal crash reconstruction investigation. So back it the scene here, the motorcycle involved in the fatal crash there against the left lane median. And this white acura, you can see, some of the damage on the driver side. And there is a lot more damage, not visible from where we, are but staying safe here, and staying out of the investigators way. So bob this will be a big traffic story for awhile it looks like. Steve, great to have you part of the team, you knew the area, how to get around. But for the thousands every folks could that are coming into town today theyre not familiar with all of the little ins and outs of the city here. So lets try to to get you around t live look right above steves scenario, there is the motorcycle, and the eastbound lanes of the schuylkill expressway, closed, there is university sit, Childrens Hospital there in the background. So, if you are getting ready to come into philadelphia, this is going to impact everyone, regardless of whether you get off at university or not. Because here is the deal. Here, there is the all traffic push off right now, at university. So everyone that typically goes east, forced into University City. If youre getting ready to leave the house this morning, maybe take the kids down for appointment or checkup down at chop, this is your exit. So, everyone else is forced off at that same interchange. Here is how you get around it. If you are coming into the city right now, eastbound on the schuylkill, if youre going to chop, or over into University City, exit for 30th. Thirtieth street station will put you right on the market, youll come into university sit on the back end. If you are headed down to the airport, that stretch of the schuylkill would be in your gps. So jump off at 676, the vine expressway, take that east, over to 95 south, that will get you down to the airport, and also give you access to the walt whitman bridge. Lets head back outside. Bob kelly look at the roads. Good morning, everybody, not good start for anybody that use the schuylkill expressway. It is shutdown in south philadelphia. All eastbound lanes of the schuylkill closed here at university. All because of an Early Morning fatal motorcycle accident. It happened about 3 00 this morning in the eastbound lanes, you can see, police investigating, there is the motorcycle that was involved in the crash this morning. Here is the back up, already. This is a look from south street. So eastbound traffic all pushed off into University City. This is a rough go to begin with on regular day. Pushed off at university. Of course come to the first traffic signal. Here is Childrens Hospital, of philadelphia, and if you are coming down, maybe Early Morning, taking the kids in for a checkup, or just getting into the neighborhood here, it is going to be difficult. So here is a couple of options for you. If you are coming into University City, or down into chop, exit for 30th street. Thirtieth street station. You go around the station. That puts you onto market. That is how youll get n come in the back end therefore chop. If you are headed down to the airport, or in the south philadelphia, exit for the vine expressway. Take that cross town to 95. Take 95 south. You will have access to south philly, the bridges, and the airport. You dont want to get stuck into that closure, and then pushed off into the neighborhood, because thats going to throw a huge amount of extra time into your trip. If you are getting ready to leave from the suburbs, king of prussia, and youre headed to the airport, your best bet, take the blue route. 476 south to 95 north. And thats the way to go. And i think sue was standing right here to tell us about the weather, and is she going to do that in 15 seconds or right now . No. Right now . Yes. Morning, sue. You are the human gps. Im the human weather app. You dont need that weather app. I got you. All right, here we go again, with tropical situation, in the western caribbean, near nicaragua, tropical depression 16. It is expected to strengthen into a Tropical Storm. And enter the gulf of mexico, make landfall, maybe around alabama, and then look where it is headed after that. Thats a projected path of this storm. It could take a while to get there, of course, by the weekend maybe sunday into monday we see category one hurricane, making landfall, somewhere along the gulf coast. The name will be nate. Thats the next one on the list. Ophelia after that. So we had little bit after break there, but not much. We have some rain to the north of us, with a weak cold front. Thats going to come through. When you say cold front, remember the weak part. Because whether it comes through this evening, it probably wont make much of a difference in the temperature. Actually miler morning today, 62 degrees if philadelphia, even mount pocono, 62, thanks to all of the cloud cover they have up there. Somers point at 63, and mercerville, new jersey, starting the day at 60 degrees. Yesterday we got to 76 in philadelphia. It was a cooler 68 degrees for high in atlantic city. Trenton had 77. Today, trenton will probably be up to 83 degrees as will we here in philadelphia. Eightyone in reading, and by the end of the day, north and west of the city, probably after sunset, there could be stray shower or thunderstorm. But thats mostly for north and west of the city.
