Here is a beautiful live look outside on this saturday morning and not so pretty, maybe about 10 degrees sitting on that screen right there. It is bone chilling cold yet again, gary. This morning purposefully i have not looked at the temperatures across the region. I wanted to be as surprised as everybody else. And what was your expression. I havent looked yet. Oh, you havent looked. How can the weatherman not look. I looked at the temperature here and i was like lets just wait. Let me say this, as cold as it is this morning arent the wi andthe wind chill factorse brutal its going to be colder tomorrow morning. I think tomorrow morning we could have maybe a few zeros out there if the winds die down tonight, tomorrow morning. Lets look at whats going on this weekend. Obviously its going to stay frigid, no doubt about it. It will warm a little bit tomorrow but its not going to get to freezing. Well stay below freezing. Drum roll, please. 8 degrees dulles. Oh, my gosh, manassas is one. And this is with wind out there, too, so this is were almost directly under the what were going to get from this arctic air mass, the coldest that were going to get. Were 11 here in town thanks to a bit of a heat island effect. Annapolis is 10. Baltimore is seven and fredericksburg is also 1 degree. Listen, where the where the wind has dropped off, thats where the wind chill is is going to be pretty much in line with the actual temperature but where the wind is still kicking up a little bit, winchester, i mean, youre 8 degrees below zero. Westminster 14 degrees below zero and feels like 3 degrees below zero here in town. All of this, were talking about most of the east coast is under a wind chill advisory. Thats the blue. The pink is wind chill warnings. Its going to go until noon today. I dont know why that says noon friday but whatever. Its going to today, all right, and then its going to kick back in during the overnight hours tonight and were talking between five to 15 below zero and you just saw winchester westminster there at 14 degrees below zero. Heres where we are today. Wind chill factors potentially below zero and then by later on this afternoon it will feel like about seven or so. It stays brutal annie. The winds today will be breezy. These temperatures this is amazing to me. This is an arctic air mass, though, no doubt about it, coldest weve had all year. All sunshine today and were talking temperatures today only making it up to upper teens, 20 degrees but with the wind chill factor thats the wind chill factor, by the way for highs today. And sunshine doesnt really do anything for me when i see temperatures like that on my tv screen. No. But i have warmer weather in the sevenday forecast. I have a lot warmer weather actually. Giving us hope. Thank you so much gary. In just a bit. Time is 7 03. That dangerously cold weather is definitely going to stick around all day and into tomorrow and you can expect frigid temperatures face stinging winds that will make the air feel like subzero. Reporter well, good morning to you, annie. It is stinging cold, bitter cold and right now we are outside one of the several Warming Centers across the district opened. You can see behind me there are some people inside. Now, what weve noticed since we came here this morning is that there will be groups of people and then a bus will come and pick up some people and take them to a shelter. Now, this is all part of the districts cold emergency plan that is currently activated. We are here specifically at th but as part of that plan, when temperatures dip below 15 degrees or the wind chill dips below 20, which is exactly what we are experiencing right now, the district activates its cold emergency plan. That means that there are Additional Resources for people who could be subject to these bitter temperatures and a lot of these people, many of them are people who are faced with homelessness so it is a sensitive subject. Again, what weve noticed is that there is a warming bus, a shelter bus that comes every 15 or 30 minutes and takes people from here to shelters where they can have a warm meal and then oftentimes well see a new group of people coming in. Now, a lot of people obviously are here just to stay warm. One person that did come out and had a few complaints about the fact that they did eventually have to leave, get on the bus and go to the shelter, but one of Many Services that the district is providing. Again, its shelters and Warming Centers, overnight Warming Centers in fact and also these warming buses that they have going throughout the district and if you see someone, make sure you say something. You can also call 311 so that that person does not suffer from hypothermia. This is all, again, part of the districts cold emergency plan. You can call 311 and services and help can be provided immediately. Tisha lewis, fox5 local news. Temperatures in one part of New Hampshire hit an insane low overnight. According to the New York Times the White Mountains in New Hampshire show the temperature dropped to 40 below zero with wind chills as low as negative 100. Its the evil wind chills, gary. Yeah, thats probably up at the higher peeks, too. I dont think that was down that is some serious stuff there. You couldnt stand out for more than five minutes. This was one of those perfect combinations of the really cold arctic air, which we year, not every season but we do get it, and then this big storm running up the coast and of course when you mix the two, and this storm became incredibly strong, one of the reasons why is because the air was so cold, that helps with the intensity of the storm and you had still the warm water that it was feeding off of from the gulf stream and up into the atlantic, too, so again, one of those scenarios where this all comes across and we just storm after storm we continue to see these incredibly unique pictures like the one that was where all the flooding had taken place in massachusetts and then you end up getting so cold that a lot of that water starts to freeze even though its mainly ocean water, too, its freezing along the top. Wow. 6 degrees for gaithersburg now, manassas 1 degrees here, these are actual air temperatures, okay. Fredericksburg 1 degrees. Culpeper four. So, the winds have lightened up in some places. Other places they havent lightened up but if you factor in the wind chill out t right now, obviously to the north and west it is much, much colder. It is well below zero with the real feel up here in westminster, now 15 degrees below zero. Last time we checked it was 14 degrees below zero. 11 degrees below zero the feelslike for hagerstown. Here in town now we feel below zero at minus three. Dulles the other big airport feels its minus eight. Look how much real estate is under a wind chill advisory. The blue is the wind chill advisory. The pink is the wind chill warning, all right, so were talking, oh, five were you have to 10 below here in the wind chill advisory, even colder than that for the wind chill warning. Now, this will go through noon today and then it will take a little break and then they issue it for overnight tonight where well have the the really cold temperatures again and potential for the feelslike to be below zero. Here are highs today, actual highs not wind chill highs. 20 for a high, so, again, the wind chill factor today for the most part will stay in the Single Digits. Big area of low pressure, this is moving away. High pressure, arctic High Pressure continues to move down. So, the difference in the two and we end up being really breezy even windy and gusty again today with brutal wind chill. And were seeing it this morning. Well see it today. I do believe the winds will start to lighten up overnight tonight as the arctic High Pressure gets over on top of us and as that happens, typically what happens with the arctic air high getting on top of you, the winds will really lighten up. So, tonights lows go right down to zero for a lot of us. There might even be some below zero overnight tonight. Heres the forecast for today. Lots of sunshine. It will stay gusty. Sevenday forecast i promised, didnt i . Didnt i promise. I like that 57. How about that, right . I wanted to go i wish i could go 60 or 60 plus thursday, friday. Not going to do that yet.
