that artic air is blasting much of the country. so far the severe cold is being blamed for nine deaths in the us. even the south hasn't been spared with some states dealing with freez ing conditions. let's get right to sue palka with how it's affecting our region. we're going to be dealing with this a little bit longer and the next batch of artic air that a comes in it looks like it's going to be colder. look at all these purples and dark blues. it's 17 in apple ril oh, it is 39 in new orleans, even tampa. as we get in closer to our area we're also not he scaimg it. the lack of wind has meant that temperatures locally have gotten really cold, d.c. is down to 20. did he striet is one, cincinnati 14 and boston 17. a closer look at our temperatures and we've dropped to four degrees in manassas, seven in culpeper and 14 for qu prepare for a very cold start our wednesday morning and then maybe an interesting finish. i have to tell you that while we expect a sunny and very cold start tomorrow morning, temperatures should moderate a little bit into the 30s, but then we start watching down to our south where we believe an area of low pressure is going to start coming up the coast tomorrow and it will spread some accumulating snow south and east of d.c. on the order of a few inches and winter storm watches are up for much of delmarva. you talked about the south feeling the deep cold. we have winter storm warnings for florida all the way coastal north carolina and south carolina and into our area where we have winter storm watches out at the beaches for the possibility of four to six inches and maybe even two to three for places like salsbury and annapolis. possibility of some light snow here in d.c. a long the 95 corridor. more on that coming up in a little bit. we'll have to much what thursday morning commute that's for sure. >> new tonight, a college football player from maryland is paralyzed after he was shot at a new year's eve part. larry aaron is a sophomore at marshal university. he grew up in howard county. the shooting early yesterday while he was home from school. lindsay watts shares more details. >>reporter: i'm told larry aaron's family has lived in the colombia area for decades. they were with him at the hospital tonight. we've spoken to some close family frens who are devastated. aaron is expected to re cover from the shooting, but the star football player is now paralyzed from the waste down. the shooting happened early new year's day at a big house party here in seven in anne arrundel. according to a go fund me page set up by the family, aaron who is 19 years old was struck in the back by a stray bullet fired by an un identified party guest. it sounds like air oon was not the intended target here. police say they are still trying to boy was also shot and survived. i spoke to a family friend tonight who heard about this on the radio driving home from work and he drove straight to aaron's family's home with tiers in his eyes. he says he has known aaron since he was a child. he thought he was nfl bound and then to find out what has happened so sense leslie. this is a young man that has promise, goodwill to his family, gracious people to god's earth and this has to happen. i'm just blown away the violentance, when does it stop? this is a tweet from marshal university's football coach. it says in party send my the identity of a woman killed in the district last week. police responded to h car fire on adrian place southeast. once they put out the flames, police found a body in the car. investigators determined the victim 23 year old car rhys lewis of hyattsville had been shot several times. police are now looking for the person responsible for lewis' death. they're asking anyone with information to give them a call new video from bowie, maryland where firefighters battled a townhouse fire. firefighters tell us it spread to the upper floors before they were able to put it out. fortunately no one was hurt. in fairfax county tonight we are learning new de tails about a man accused of assaulting two loves police officers during a string of kriemtion. this vincent of adelphi. he stole a car and was hurt during the crash. tonight he is out of the hospital and in jail. the crash happened last week in herndon and center and frying pan roads a child was ejected from a minivan. the child is in critical, but stable conditions vincent is facing a host of charges. a local family is demanding answers after their son was killed during a traffic accident involving a metro trans it police officer. sixteen year old derrick stanton was krowsing crane highway when he was struck by a marked metro transit k9 unit. the officer officer gary bot like oh was off duty and on his way to work at the time of accident. maryland take it police say a preliminary investigation reveals that stanton may have walked right into oncoming traffic directly into the path of the approaching patrol car. the victim's mother says she has a hard time child that most of us look right and look left, he look right left, right left before he cross the treat. i knew what they were saying wasn't true. i knew it. authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call maryland take it police. montgomery county police right now are look ing for two men accused of trying to abduct an eight year old girl in a tacoma park neighborhood. the child got away. she also got a good look at one of the men. the girl told police she was outside wait waiting for her dad to take her to school when two men in a grai vinnie man approached and offered her capped did i. she ran in and told her father. police say she gave her a good description of one of the men. i thought it was very impressive of how much scary moment for a dallas police officer. the recent cold weather caused some is i conditions. the officer was helping a driver involved in a crash. you see the other car come right in. the officer tried to get away, but slid and he thought for sure that that car was going to hit hivment the car was coming. i was trying not to fall and try to stay away from the traffic that was in my lane to the right. i ended up falling, but fortunately far enough away from that it was close. the driver was not ticketed. instead the officer sent him on his way as quickly as possible to avoid another traffic which will be closer is going to come from is going to get very intense and grabs the cold air and pulse it right back down into our region on a gusty to north, northwest wind. dangerous cold and single digit lowe's even in the district coming our way. in terms of snow for tomorrow night and into thursday morning we'll have to continue to much what the track of this storm. it does look like it's a little too far out to see to bring anything more. that could be significant for anything at the coast. definitely it's tracking more snow south and east. southern maryland you're not off the hook with this for a few inches as well. along the i95 correspond doirt looks like it could be light snow. maybe enough to coat things. maybe enough to pile up to an inch or so. we'll certainly attach numbers to this tomorrow afternoon and probably as early as tomorrow morning. really the bigger story is going to be the cold that's going to be becoming in behind the system . we'll feel as thursday so that's why i'm going to show you the wind chill . thursday morning at eight, single digit wind chills it will take a little while for the winds to get cranking. 10- degrees blow zero in cumberland on thursday night at 7:00. we take this to midnight, everybody is going to be having blow zero wind chills. this is thursday midnight. 8 a.m. friday morning, rough commute because of this brutal cold. feeling like 12-degrees in zero to 16-degrees blow zero in winchester and as cold as 68 blow zero. that's friday morning. we go through the day and the wind gets a little bit better. the friday morning wind chillies going to be really tough to take and even into the evening hours we're talking single digit wind chills and teens. the winter storm watch way up to main. don't be surprised to see a few more getting issued tomorrow. i think that st. mary's and calvert you might clipped by this as well. right at the coast, we think four to six inches is possible. you might even get a couple inches down in southern saint maries. maybe we get an inch along the i95 corridor. we still need to continue to watch this system. even a little bit of light snow can impact the commute around heemple it's a real cold day. it's cold into friday and saturday. we moderate a little bit next week. the mid 40s ought to feel fantastic and let's keep our fingers crossed that it definitely happens. apples
