less actions of a maryland law enforcement officer killed while helping another officer who crashed last night along 270 in rockville. both men died after another car crashed into them. fox 5 evan ten year, there's bunting over the sign signifying the loss that his colleagues are feeling. >> on a cold snowy night, colleagues of deputy chief fire marshal sanders cohen share a warm embrace moments before. fire trucks and apparel state police cruisers accompanied his body to a rockville funer >> he stopped, helped someone in need. and now he's joined the ranks of maryland's fallen heros >> he stopped to help the driver. he put his personal car behind the suv and turned on his flashers. >> he told the bark he could be safeguarding the scene. and would be out with the driver. excuse me. the investigation indicates the deputy chief cohen and the driver of the suv then moved to the shoulder of the fast lane. they were standing there when a southbound vehicle swerved on to the shoulder struck both of them. >> reporter: cohen didn't know it but he was helping 36-year-old carlos wolf a supervisory special agent with the fbi. they died from their injuries. cohen had been we heights maryland, it broke out around 10:00 last night. witnesses began knocking on doors and helping get the people inside. when firefighters arrived they found the townhomes fully engulfed. the fire was so intense, a second alarm was sounded. no one was hurt but it caused about $200,000 in damage and to force add dozen residents in the three damaged townhomes to find another place a fire is to blame for about $100,000 of damage to a home in ellicott city. they say the flameses started overnight in the garage of a home on spring meadow drive. fire was contained to the garage but damaged the home and two other vehicles parked outside. still. no word on what caused it, one person treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. in loudoun county, a house fire there being blamed on a
