i'll have the answer. back to you. >> talking about it. i'm thinking the odds are pretty good. >> don't do it. >> thanks tuck. wellaway brace for the cold area part of california the ground. three major wildfires continue to spread across the southern portion of the golden state. near los angeles. together they have burned more than 90,000 acres. destroyed more than 200 homes and forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate. here's the thing. their winds right now are almost hurricane strength. the winds are 85 miles an hour in some parts. experts say those winds could continue, containment such a long way away and fire crews are stretched thin. but, some relief could be on the way. fox's ellison barber has the latest now from los angeles. >> reporter: thomas, screw ball creek a few of the tires pulling firefighters here in southern california in all sorts of different directions. >> southern california is under siege over 100,000 acres of land have been could have beened. mostly from the thomas fire. with low containment and plenty moreland to burn things are expected to get worse. stopping winds are forecast continue moving the flames exactly what firefighters do not need. >> there's a lot of potential for some large fire growth. >> reporter: all this as yet another fire breaks out. threatening the famed wealthy neighborhood of bell air.& evacuees found plenty of company on the road wednesday night driving by flames swallowing the hillside. back in ventura county some people are already digging through the rubble of what used to be their homes. struggling to comprehend how they lost everything. >> the photo of thes and family air looms are gone. they're not coming back. >> this is what's left of our house. >> darlene jordan refuses to let the fire get the best of her. >> that's all that mattered was that. we were okay and our dog was okay. now we just have to -- we'll start over. >> reporter: this is the thomas fire only 5% of it is say they are expecting the worst winds all week. in ventura, california, i'm ellison barber, fox news. that fire is the big one the one that started it up in ventura but as we were just talking some of those fires are literally on the outskirts of beverly hills and los angeles. >> it's so crazy. >> closed down ucla campus because of this. >> right in the back door of ucla. >> unbelievable. keeping our eye on this one watching this our other big story this morning senator al franken's future the chorus of congressmen and women calling on him to step down is growing. as of this morning, more than 30 of his senate colleagues have called for his resignation. this all come in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against the minnesota lawmaker and former comedian. fox5's melanie alnwick is live on the hill now with more on the big announcement that could be coming any minute now. mel? >> reporter: good morning, guy. you may remember it was novembel started radio host leanne tweet den came out and talked about her experiences accusing franken of her when they were on u.s. o tour before he was a senator. yesterday two more accusers said that franken had made unwanted advances toward them and that now bring the toll number of accusers to eight. franken support in the senate has vanished. men and women in the senate dozen of them are calling for minnesota senator franken to resign after the first accusation franken apologized and said he would cooperate with the senate ethics investigation. then more women came forward with stories of franken groping or trying to kiss them on the mouth. >> senator franken's conduct was wrong. he is admitted to it and he should resign from the senate. >> i do not feel he should continue to serve. everyone will make their own judgment. >> reporter: now, after that rebuke from his colleagues on capitol hill, senator franken's office said he would have an announcement today. they followed up with tweet about sick p.m. last night saying "senator franke taking his time in talking with his family, they plans to make announcement tomorrow. any reports of a final decision are inaccurate "we shall also mention that only one of these alleged incidents happened while franken was a senator an group of staffers that work for him in his senate office signed a letter saying that they never felt that any of this conduct was inappropriate. senator franken also denied the most recent accusation of a item to go forcibly kiss someone during a radio program or after the radio interview. now, as far as the announce many goes, what we understand it is supposed to happen on the senate floor but no timing has been announced yet. the senate convenes at 10:00 this morning. live on capitol hill melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> from 10:00 people will be watching for sure. >> thanks mel. appreciate it. let's check the morning briefing now, and first up, tensions r running high in the middle east this morning. as the fallout continues from president trump's historic move to recognize jerusalem as israel's several world leaders are calling for an emergency session at the united nations to discuss the issue. the u.s. is warning americans abroad about the possibility of protests and just hours ago, the leader of hamas called for new uprising against israel in the wake of president trump's decision. now, another big story on capitol hill today, action to avoid a government shutdown. federal agencies run out of money at midnight tomorrow. house leaders have planned a vote for today on a bill to keep the government running at least through december 22nd. the senate is due to take it up after that. avoiding a government shutdown will likely be a big topic when president trump meets with democratic leaders nancy pelosi and chuck schumer later today. >> beginning tomas seive search will be underway for the remains of pamela butler a d.c. woman who's been missing since 2009. if your normal drive takes you on 95 through stafford county, well you may see some activity came at solving that painful mystery. fox5's bob barnard is live in northwest with more on this story. bob? outside the house that pamela butler was living in when she disappeared in february 2009. the man who admitted to killing her said he strangled her in the basement during an argument february 13th, 2009 he took her body out of first floor window, put it in his car and drove it to a wood wooded area off i-95 in stafford county, virginia. jose rodriguez cruz plead guilty to this crime finally after all these years just this past october. as part of the plea deal he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. league second degree murder, and he told the police that he would lead them to the body. it's taken now a couple of months, but we believe that search will begin tomorrow in woods along i-95 both the north and southbound lanes and in woods in the median there. it's been some time so virginia state police working with dc police hope they'll be able to find the body as does miss butler's family she was an analyst for the epa. on fox5 last night. >> i hope that he's telling the truth. i believe that the district attorney and the police vetted him pretty good before we actually made the deal. so, um, i'm hopeful but i do have mixed emotions about it. even though we know what happened to my sister, she's still missing. she didn't have a proper burial. she doesn't have a proper resting place, and that's what we want for her. >> reporter: derek and other butler family members had suspected cruz very much sin the beginning basically since she disappeared in 2009. arlington county police are still investigating. it's an open case. the first wife of jose rodriguez cruz a woman named marta disappeared in 1989. she's never been found. so they suspected all along and they're hoping that, guys, maybe as early as tomorrow they'll na loved one. >> much needed closure. closure is important. thanks, bob. appreciate that. 9:11 is our time right now the me too movement is clearly having a moment and many would say it's long overdue. but there could also be a backlash on the horizon. we'll tell you why coming up also a little bit later on, erin and kevin's excellent adventure they went on a trip to try to get erin a hug from her celebrity crush john cena yesterday w they successful? joining us this morning is amelia irving representing young voices a non heist profit. good morning, thank you so much for coming in. >> good morning. thank you soap for having me. >> my firs q thinking about talking to you, you're a student at georgetown university. do you think people your age really understand, um, how monumental this is, what's going on right now? because you haven't been in that workplace environment yet to even understand some of those precious that some of these accusers have faced. >> yes, i think especially on college campuses, we've been talking about sexual assault for probably longer than most the u.s. in general. especially because we're not in the workplace yet, but given sort of the social situation of college it's already a big issue for us as college students. so it's really exciting to see this happen in the main stream with so many men and women. >> why do you think the me too movement took off when it did? was it solely the harvey weinstein case? >> i think that was a huge part of it, because women saw harvey weinstein and how the accusations caused such a huge change in his life and i think that empowered other women to come forward with the hopes they would also be successful and finally having justice. >> is it a matter of finally being believed? like if you say something, someone is actually going to hear me? >> i think so. i think that was huge because i think in the past it was sort of -- it was definitely a bigger risk. you weren't sure if you would be believed or if you would just be sort of pushed into the side lines, and destroyed by the accuser publicly. but now after harvey weinstein fell so dramatically i think it's empowered a lot of women to come forward and share their stories. >> now we have harvey weinstein coming out real really going after his accusers saying look none of them said no. none of this was not consensual and we've seen that from several other people, too. like, you know, i didn't force her to do that. maybe verbally or whatever. what do you think about that tactic coming now from the accuser or the people that are accused? >> i think he thought he didn't have any other option and i think this is a key cas fell in reclaiming his position in hollywood and his place of, um, importance i think that that will make other one more cautious in the future whether or not they decide to come forward. so i think that what he's doing is really his last resort but it's also a really terrible thing to say to women that, oh, because you didn't say no, because you didn't maybe fight back, i think that's too much of an expectation. going into hotel room with someone who has so much more power and influence than you, you automatically need to know your place in society. you have to say, maybe i should proceed more cautiously if i'm a track to do some of these women. maybe i should make sure that i specifically ask permission rather than just assume. >> then just playing definitely's advocate maybe some would say as a woman, don't go in the room. >> sure. but going into a hotel room doesn't give anyone permission to do anything to you. because it's not some sort of social expectation that just because you're having with someone and maybe they're feeling ill you don't necessarily know why you've been called up to the hotel room, i don't think that going into the room is giving your consent. excuse me. >> you're fine. >> we see the same thing on college campuses people will say, oh, well you were at that party. you had a drink. that mean you wanted to hook up with someone. no there's difference between necessarily going to a place or acting a certain way and consent to go sexual activity. >> we have this conversation a lot because you have the harvey weinsteins of the world clearly he knew what he was doing was wrong. right. >> um-hmm. >> using his power. he overtly used it but then we have this like culture where there are some things that kind of happen because people just kind of think it's okay they didn't really understand that what they were doing was inappropriate. do you feel like young men now a days are now specifically are starting to learn what the rules are what these new rules are? >> i really hope so. but i'm not super confident just because on colleges we still have all these sexual assault cases, and you have so many women saying that, upping, like getting -- they're getting wolf whistled at or people are winning at them when -- making them feel uncomfortable and i think what we're doing is we're trying to say, you know, there are consequences for these behaviors. it doesn't matter whether or not you personally think it's okay. society says this is not acceptable, and if you do it, you're going to be punish in some way. i think that is the most important thing that we can do is say, there are consequences for those actions. i don't care whether or not you think that's acceptable as a young man to smack someone when they walk by because there are going to be consequences for those actions. >> do you think there could be a backlash to the me to movement. >> i think we're starting to see it with harvey weinstein coming back and with river as collins maybe the women are after money. so i think there's going t backlash but hopefully it won't be a significant one. >> admittedly there are lots of shades of gray. unfortunately do you have some of the women, right, that are in it for money then you have the real victims out there and it just makes it all so complicated luckily people your young age are addressing it and talking about it and experiencing this movement that we're in now. thank you soap for coming in. >> thank you soap for having me. >> appreciate it. back over to you. >> important discussion. thank you both of you. right now it's 9:21. youtube's year in review. little later we'll share what we were all watching oh and line in 2017. >> first allison what are you working on this morning. >> new threat from north korea unfortunately to tell you about. nuclear war now just a master time. plus, the best place to work in 2018 weeviled and you helped make it possible the perfect gift for the millennial in your life. we'll have details when we check what else is make headlines next. ♪ 9:24. allison is back with a check of the other stories making headlines this morning. good morning al. >> good morning. first up u.s. ambassador to the united nations is warning north korea is quote getting more dangerous. this as the country says nuclear war has become a matter of not if but when. north korea says threats in large military drills by the united states are making war inn he havable on the korean opinion the heels of north korea's test launch just last week of its most powerful missile yet. well today is national pearl harbor remembrance day honoring the 2000 sand plus americans who lost their lives during a surprise attack by the japanese on pearl harbor. the 1941 attack resulted in 4us battleships being destroyed at the naval base in hawaii. remembrances are taking place across the nation with main ceremony being held at the world war ii valor in hawaii. well glass door is out with its list of the best places to work in 2018. the top spot going to social mode ya giant facebook. the company's roughly 17,000 workers say working with smart people and abundance of food two of the biggest bonuses in their office. global consulting first became came in second. followed by boston consultant. west coast burger chain in and out and google round out the top five. well the little blue taltalking bow to get a lot less expensive. pfizer is going to start selling its own generic version of viagra much those pills would be white and they'll be sold at half the price of a regular have i gag which is $65 a pill. more generic brands of imputes pills are expected to hit the market next summer. finally, are you still wondering what do i get that millennial on my christmas list how about picking up one of their student loans payments? the nam model here is trying to bring about a dusting or some snowflakes south and east of town by early saturday morning. and then let me with another little clipper passing through and reinforcing the cold air on saturday we could have another round of quick-moving snow showers. none of this is going to be very impressive. but may get our first flakes of the season by friday night and early saturday. then by the weekend. notice the cool temperatures. 39 on sunday for daytime highs. then wednesday we don't get out of the mid 30s so coldest air of the season moving in over the neck several days. 50s today. nice afternoon. enjoy. back to you guys. >> thanks, tuck. >> all right. ♪ it's going to be a good one. i can feel it in my horn. maria you ready to put those wings to work? do you find yourself acting crazy in the booth? >> you don't have to do anything. you kind of do what you want to do. me, i like that stuff. >> yeah. >> i think it's awesome, and you can tell when you check your reservations at the door and go in and just go for broke in the sound booth. the animates love it because they're animated match gentleman tiff people. good faith in the people making the movie and wasn't afraid to look goofy or stupid in the sound booth and i think we got great movie out of. >> kevin is our movie guy. i'm our traffic reporter but a huge john cena fan i tag along for the view. ferdinand shows a softer side. you got in the ring and showed your softer side when you proposed to nicky. how did it feel being in the ring showing your real authentic self. >> if you watch wwe, what you see out of me is pretty close what you get. sometimes volume is turned up a little bit and sometimes the issues get heated i've always been the guy that, you know, playing the same character for about 15 yrs you have to develop that relationship with the audience, that -- this is pretty much me. um, it was a bold choice. it was, um, a risky decision but it ended up being the greatest moment of my life. i'm very happy i made. >> i watch the show total bell las and i love the relationship you have on it how do you balance your team because all of your career, you know, obligations and maintaining that great relationship? >> it's about having people understand who you are. and i think that's the foundation for any strong relationship and that's one where engagement and wedding is in your plans or family member or good friend or co-worker. i think understanding who you are, who the other person is, each other's needs and just commune kate indication certainly helps if we have long stretches where we're apart, like now, we consistently talk to each other. we consistently stay in touch with each other. it's never, um, i never ever feel left out of her life and i hope she doesn't either because we always make the time for each other. >> obviously you hav incredible intro music when you walk into the ring. what would ferdinand's intro music sound like if he were to walk in wwe ring? thomas as an actress she won four emmys, golden globe, numerous pretty much any award that you can ever think of marlo thomas has won. including the george foster peabody award. she's been induct flood the broadcasting hall of broadcasting and cable hall of fame. add that to those awards. she's more than an actress though as well. she's a producer, her whole family is in the tv producing business. brother is a producer as well. she's an author. she's a social activist and it runs in the family. now let's flashback to 1962. marlo's dad danny thomas, 55 years ago, founded saint jude's hospital. in 2004, marlo created the thanks and giving campaign to support the hospital which provides free cancer care to every child who needs it. free care to every child. it's amazing. it is safe to call the campaign a huge success. as a matter of fact, were one we talk about this campaign and its success it raised almost $700 million since it started and that assures family never spend one penny of their own money while beating treated at saint jude's. marlo joins us live from new york. it's great to see you again. it's probably better if i brag on your accomplishments i know [ laughter ] >> it would be rude if i had you brag about yourself. $700 million is an amazing number and i know you probably wish that number was two or three times that and you'll keep going until you get there. >> well actually, actually it's 800 million. >> see. >> there you go. >> almost grown 100. >> yeah, we raised 800 million in 14 years for the thanks and giving campaign. and it's very exciting. the first year we raised $8 million. and last year we raised $115 million. that's because i think that the american public have heard about it more and more. they see it everywhere. and they -- everywhere i go, people thank me for saint jude and surprising to me that there's nowhere that i go that there isn't somebody in the room that's been touched by saint jude. either their own family, their neighbor, their cousin, somebody has been touch by the work of saint screwed. we see 200 children a day. and our doctors do 4,000 consults a year with doctors and hospitals that children don't so we're impacting the children of america in so many ways. and also all of our discoveries are spread out through the entire world. the medical and scientific world. so saint jude is everywhere. my father -- my brother always says that our laboratories may not be in your city but our discoveries certainly are. and that is the truth of saint jude. the important thing about saint jude children's research hospital is that it is a research center. what's being worked out at saint jude is then taken into the clinic where the children get the first chance at this life-saving effort, whatever it is. every child who comes to saint jude has both a doctor and a scientist on their case, which is a huge difference. that's why doctors zen us their very toughest cases because they know we're working on what nobody else knows. we're working on what we don't know. because we are a research center. >> what i think -- thanks -- go ahead. >> one of things i think is great i palagis for interrupting there, yes, everybody knows somebody who touched by saint jude and you see the stories and you can't but help feel the compassion and want to give. but the giving is contagious as well and one of stories we saw just a week ago we talk with that young college student who had fallen into the online twitter donation and we had chance to talk to her from out of washington state. you know gosh darn it i'll find a way to come up with this money. she's been able to come up with millions of dollars. this is amazing or i mean tens of thousands of dollars. >> she's amazing. >> yes, she's amazing. danny i think her name is, right. >> yes, correct. >> adorable. and she's been in touch with saint jude and we've been trying to help her, too. because she did something so outrageously generous she just had no idea that many people would come and she'd have match $400,000. but bless her heart. she's -- that's exactly right. giving is contagious. and we want of year. we want you to give thanks for the healthy kids in your life and give to those fighting for their lives. you can go to best buy or k mart ann taylor, william sonoma, brooks brother, all those stories in your town they'll ask you for donation. please give even if it's a dollar. every dollar counts. when you have to, you know, really pay for these children to live. >> absolutely. >> we put the information on the screen i think saint jude has grabbed my heart in way nothing ever has. >> not only grabbed it, it kept it and you're couldn't to go push forward on that. so we thank you and your entire family for sitting in a chair that said space bear. is that what the scrip says as well? >> no. no the script -- no, but it is very much a more accurate theme of the film. >> right. >> not only did it space bear -- >> bears are a big part. >> we all had bear names. like bear -- yeah. >> what's poe's bear name. >> poe's was smokey bear. >> oh, okay.
