Crews spent several hours combing the land along i95 in the median strip in stafford county. News4s Mark Segraves broke the story this week. He joins us live with an update from the butler family. Mark . Reporter yeah, good evening, doreen. I spoke to derek butler, the brother of Pamela Butler an hour ago after he was briefed by deck tichldeck detectives. They did get one or two positive hits from the search dogs. That is enough to lead them to believe Pamela Butlers remains are buried along i95. They say they do not plan to try to recover those remains. Derek butler told me this evening that makes him and his mother very disappointed. Derek butler stood on an overpass and watched for hours as a search team looked for the remains of his sister, Pamela Butler. Hoping that we would come up with something. Reporter investigators targeted two locations along this stretch of i95 in stafford, virginia. The first location mile marker 147 where dogs searched the grassy area between the southbound lanes and the express lanes. As derek butler kept a watchful eye. After about two hours, the search moved south about seven miles to this location near exit 140. Virginia state police say the search team had a very limited time frame to conduct the first part of the search along the express lanes. We specifically chose the time of between 10 00 and 12 00. That is traditionally when the express lanes are closed to transition anyway. We wanted to have minimal impact on traffic. Reporter they did get one or two positive hits from the search dogs which area along i95, but they dont plan to recover her remains. I would not be very happy with that. At that point then i would feel like i have to do something else. And what that would be at this point, i dont know. Reporter now, this is a look at the area along 95. This is mile marker 147 along the express lanes where police got those positive hits this morning from the search dogs where they believe Pamela Butlers remains are. The reason they will not go in to try to recover because they say so many improvement as far as the express lanes and the drainage area, part of the express lane has made in the past eight years. It would be far too difficult and risky to even dig there to look for her remains. And the possibility that they would actually find something, the family would then be able to bury, they say, is just too little to make it worth their while to go in there. Thats what derek butler told me earlier this ni this means that the killer of his sister will still only have to serve 12 years, but he says thats the deal that they agreed to with prosecutors. That is the very latest. Leon, back to you in the station. What a frustrating situation for that family. Thank you, mark. Now we turn to the politics of misconduct.
