He said hes not stepping down, not leaving his seat. Now he said the past 24 hours made it clear he cannot stay on capitol hill. With almost no support left in the United States senate, senator al franken announcing he will be resigning his seat. There is some irony in the fact that i am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of Sexual Assault sits in the oval office. And a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the senate with the full support of his party. Reporter franken taking a swipe at President Trump and Alabama Senate candidate roy moore. But not any of his alleged behavior. Some of the allegations against me are simply not true. Others i remember very differently. Reporter one of his accusers calling that appalling. He just keeps passing the buck and making it out to be something that we took his behavior the wrong way. Reporter the pressure started mounting after a seventh woman came forward publicly alleging sexually inappropriate behavior. Todays announcement coming after a 24hour domino effect of colleagues pushing him to step aside. It is a very tough situation, but he did the right thing and i think were at a very important moment in our history. Reporter now with his days as a senator numbered, al franken leaving the capital walking into an uncertain future. A lot of mixed reactions tonight in the streets of d. C. Many people telling us they were happy to hear about franken stepping down. They felt a sense of solidarity with the accusers. Others told uth disappointed to hear the news. They liked his work as a senator and still others told us they were happy simply for the possibility of an open seat. Many other people accused of that are stepping down, so should he. I think thats good. I dont think he deserves to have a right to be in congress or to even have that position to make rules on behalf of his constituents. Glad to hear it. Im a republican. And i think it will open up a seat for the republicans. Lets get moving. Despite all the, i guess good stuff hes done, support of him, hes in fault and made him step down. Im disappointed because i thought he was a great senator. You know, i hate to see him step down. Reporter now, al franken continues to deny all the allegations against him in that speech today, he called it ironic that he is stepping down while other politicians facing similar accusations are not. As for whats next, franken is expected to serve out the rest of this year, then the governor who is a democrat will appoint another democrat to fill his seat. That temporary appointee will serve until next years midterm election. In november voters will choose an interim senator who will serve out the remainder of frankens term which ends in 2021. So initially it will not have an impact on the balance of power, but that could change in minnesota voters choose a republican next year. News4 has learned two bodies found buried in a Fairfax County park this year are those of teenagers. One victim was just 14. The grizzly discovery came during a spike in gangrelated murders. Julie carey joins us near holmes run park. She joins us on why the teens became target. Julie . Reporter county detectives and the fbi ramped up their investigation in this park. At the time they offered few details about the victims, but did confirm their belief that the homicides were gangrelated. News4 has now obtained these recently unsealed court documents. They provide a lot more information about the victims and why they might have been killed. We now know the two victims found buried last spring were not even adults yet. Just 14 and 17 years old. This was the scene in late february and march as Fairfax County police and the fbi joined in days of digging in holmes run park. This mother whose son had been missing cents september told news4 at the time she feared the worst. Her son had gone to the dumpster one night and never came back. Translator very much sadness. Waiting to know something about my son. Reporter now news4 has learned those fears were confirmed. Authorities had notified her that her son, tremenio was one of the two victims. The other man killed, edwin escobar. Court documents reveal why the teens may have been targeted. He disappeared in late august, his family reported him missing days later. In September Facebook information led his brother to seek out a friend, sergio tremenio. He gave him bad news, saying mendez had been abducted or killed because ms13 members thought he was a spy for a rival gang. Just two days later, on september 27th, tremenio also disappeared. His worried mom contacted police to report him missing. Then in december, new information. Detectives learned the teens had been killed and buried by ms13 members. But it wasnt until february they got the tip that led them to this wooded burial ground. Now, another interesting finding in this court document, the 1y probation last fall and was wearing a Court Ordered electronic monitor when he turned up missing. It disconnected the day after that. We broke this story yesterday. Police believe that butlers body is buried in the median of i95. She disappeared from the district in 2009. Earlier this year, Jose Rodriguez cruz confessed to the crime. He told police he buried her body along this highway. The garrisonville road access point to the express lanes will be closed at 10 00 a. M. Tomorrow so that police can start the search or Northern Virginia democrats are calling it highway robbery.
