Now, everyone on the ground of the sprawling campus was ordered to shelter in place and teams from the military began a systemic search of building one, assisted by some Montgomery County police teams as well. Now, all 20 stories had to be searched. As you might imagine that did not happen quickly. It took almost four hours for shermgt in place to be the allclear being given. It turned out to be nothing, but no one is criticizing the person who made the call, as we hear from Montgomery County Police Captain paul starks. Given the times we live in and this facility we wanted to ensure that while we didnt have any indication at the time, except for the call, we want to be able to set up a perimeter and make things safe for the thousands of people on this campus. Reporter now, one of the things that did happen is all nonemergency applications and nonemergency appointments here were canceled for the day. They were treating this like a snow day and things should be getting back to normal tomorrow. Reporter derek, there certainly was a sense of calm here among the patients and the employees who showed up here, that many of them were trying to get in right over here at gate two. They were arriving here to get treatment or to go to work when they were told that there was a possible active shooter inside the building. Now, we spoke with many folks who were sitting outside of gate two trying to gather information from coworkers who were inside. One employee showed us the text message he received, telling him of a code white, and a possible active shooter. But many of the people we spoke with were relieved to see the heavy Police Presence giving them a sense of reassurance that the situation was under control. It wasnt until around 2 00, so three hours after building was on lockdown, that patients and employees allowed to leave. We had a chance to catch up with them as they walked toward the metro. Metro. We here theres an active shooter alert, told to get inside under cover, get down. So thats what we do. A lot of calm because a whole bunch of military veteran, combat veterans, so we are all kind of all of us have experience. Reporter we spoke to some veterans who said people were shaken up. But on the whole they were getting regular updates throughout the lockdown situation, letting them know whats happening. Meagan fitzgerald, thanks.
