breaking news. >> there's been a crash outside columbia, south carolina. an amtrak train colliding with a freight train. >> this comes on the heels of other incidents with amtrak. ron is here with the latest. >> this happened after 2:30 this morning. here's what we know so far. at least two people reported dead and 70 injured. amtrak train 91 carrying 139 passengers running from new york to miami. the ntsb has sent people to the scene in cayce, south carolina. this comes after another deadly derailment after a train hurling off an overpass in dupont. washington state, killing three people and killing dozens. now this accident in south carolina. at least two killed in that accident. >> ron, thank you. joining us now is a passenger who was on the train when it crashed. derrek pettaway, thank you for joining us. from your perspective, what can you tell us about the moment of impact. >> i was asleep at the moment of impact. that's what woke me up. after that -- i mean it was -- everybody was just in shock. everybody was tired. so it was calm. everybody was orderly. the amtrak crew was very professional getting everyone gathered. first responders showed up really quick. it's been a pretty stressful morning. everybody seems to be taking it fairly well. >> you said everybody was sleeping at the time of impact. it happened roughly at 2:30 in the morning. what did the impact feel like when the amtrak train hit the freight train? >> i don't know. just the only thing i know is i was kind of just tossed up against the side of the car. i hit my head and just minor injuries. it was so serene where i was in the train. it felt like a really bad car accident. >> we're happy to hear your injuries are minor. we unfortunately know at least two people did not survive. as you were let off the train you described it as orderly. did you see many injured and possibly even fatalities? >> didn't see any fatalities. i saw a few people with much worse injuries than myself. looked like broken bones. other than that i didn't see much of anything. >> you said the response was very orderly. we know the red cross is taking the wounded to a nearby middle school. what has the response been like? >> i'm sorry. can you repeat the question? >> we know the red cross responded to the scene. they're taking the wounded to a nearby middle school. what was the response like? >> the response was great. i don't know about taking people to the shelter. i went straight to the hospital and was discharged. i'm now at the shelter. i see people trickling in. you have maybe 40 to 60 folks. >> i imagine you feel pretty lucky to be alive this morning considering what happened. >> yes. >> all right. we want to thank you so much for taking the time to speak to us on "gma" this morning. >> thank you. >> abc's stephanie ramos is in washington with more on response to the crash. good morning, stephanie. >> details are still unfolding in sourt care at this hour. we know the ntsb in washington is on the way to the state. they're sending a go team. it will consist of a dozen investigators and support staff. they're working closely with local authorities in sourt care trying to figure out what went wrong here. the ntsb will take the lead. they'll look at cameras and video from the train to the speed and braking system. they'll gather information about the track and signage. as paula mentioned, the red cross the on site right now to help those affected and impacted by all this. they're helping passengers and those walking around with injuries at the staging area near that middle school. they also dispatched emergency resources from across the state. they'll also say -- they also say they'll be assisting first responders as well. we learned ntsb investigators will interview there in minneapolis. eva, good morning to you. >> good morning, guys. you can feel the excitement already. it's not because it is insanely cold, and it is cold, just like minnesota is used to. this city is ready for the fans and they are ready for today's big game. >> reporter: a million fans have poured into minneapolis for one of the largest sporting events in the world, the super bowl. to ensure the game and the fans are safe local, state and federal authorities are working together. >> the super bowl is a tier one national security event. there's extra layers of security in place that just days ago concerns raised over how they vetted their employees. a new company now securing the event. as for the game, a huge security force is ready. bomb sniffing dogs, officers on the ground and in the air and this massive chain link and concrete fence surround u.s. bank stadium. the bitter cold another challenge for law enforcement. for the first time ever fans will go to security screenings before getting to the stadium. >> we'll screen a lot of people off site. so nobody has to wait in line in the freezing cold. >> reporter: once cleared from the mall of america fans will be shuttled to the stadium. with this being the coldest super bowl ever, local hospitals are on alert. >> we're quite concerned and quite ready for an un -- influx from people unfortunately intoxicated democrats are blasting back saying the republicans who voted along party lines to release that document of being part and parcel of an organized event to obstruct the special counsel. >> reporter: the president is celebrating tweeting this memo totally vindicates trump. the russia witch hunt goes on and on. this is an american disgrace. trump and his allies insist the document released friday is proof positive the special counsel's investigation is nothing more than partisan politics. >> they got a warrant on someone in the trump campaign, used the opposition research paid for by the democratic party and the hillary clinton campaign. >> reporter: trump left open the possibility he may fire rod rosenstein who is singled out in the memo for criticism. >> reporter: will you fire rod rosenstein? >> reporter: do you have confidence in him? >> you figure that one out. >> reporter: this six-page democratic rebuttal written by the ranking member by the house judiciary committee insists no credible basis whatsoever for removing him. if the president is looking to fire mr. rosenstein he will have to look outside the nunes memo. some say the president may have started laying the groundwork for that. at the state of the union. >> tonight i call on congress to empower every cabinet secretary with the authority to reward good workers and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the american people. >> reporter: could the broad new standard apply to federal law enforcement officers? leaders of the president's own party have been unwilling to accept the gop memo as a reason to end the russian probe. >> this memo is not an indictment of the fbi, the department of justice. it does not impune the mueller investigation or the deputy attorney general. >> we should clarify this democratic rebuttal is not the classified democratic memo you may have heard about. this was circulated to house democrats on saturday. tomorrow democrats on the house intelligence committee plan on renewing their efforts to get their memo declassified. that's something that the republicans have so far declined to do. dan and paula. >> more light reading we can lock forward too. david right. thank you. we want to bring in george stephanopoulos. does it appear trump has teamed himself up to oust robert mueller and rod rosenstein? you heard in that piece when asked specifically about rod rosenstein he said you figure that out. >> the white house has said no the president is going to fire him. they said he's not planning on firing robert mueller. we know the president has been agitated about this and has threatened at times to follow through on that. the white house says that's not going to happen. what you're seeing is an effort to discredit the entire russia investigation. the president claims he's vindicated there. not only democrats, but independent analysts show it doesn't come close to vindicating the president. it's filled with inaccuracies. they claim that some of the dossier was paid for was revealed to the judge. we won't know the truth until we know the underlying intelligence. >> whatever you think of the president's motives here or the accuracy of the memo, has the president and his allies created enough fog around this issue whatever mueller releases in the end people will not believe it? >> i don't know how many people. clearly the president has a campaign going and he's backed up by republican allies in the media and congress to discredit the mueller probe. whether that will succeed i think depends on what mueller finds. we don't know what evidence mueller has. we don't know what his conclusions are. perhaps robert mueller doesn't know his conclusions. there is no question -- i think you're right we've seen an effort to tarnish the investigation and color the findings whenever they're made. >> george, thank you. just a reminder george has a packed show coming up. he'll talk about the gop memo told him if you do what you did to me to other people you'll lose your career, reputation and family. weinstein's attorney saying he is stunned and saddened by what he says are false accusations. >> there may be no one actor or actress more intertwined with harvey weinstein than uma thurman. this particular set of allegations is all the more disturbing because they're practically synonymous with each other's years. >> reporter: weinstein produced "pulp fiction" and 2003, 2004 "kill bill" films. that's where thurman famously drove that blue convertible. the actress now saying tarantino forced her to drive the car. against her wishes releasing this behind the scenes crash footage she says gave her a concussion. >> she called that experience dehumanization to the point of death. we reached >> a whore. it wasn't uncommon for him to discuss sexual relations among employees. i thought they were going to keep my statements confidential. when i found out within a few days that john had been made aware of everything i said, i was in shock. >> reporter: she said that's when kenneally began berating and mistreating her before ultimately freezing her out. >> he refused to talk to me. our open communication was a key part of my job. he refused to work with me, refused to acknowledge me. >> reporter: paige said she was initially in a consensual sexual relationship with kenneally, also her boss. >> i realized it was the worst mistake of my life. >> she said when she wanted out angry abuse followed. >> he called me names nobody ever called me. >> like what?
