hey, guys. >> reporter: yeah, hey, monica, hey rick, you're right, in fact it is largest tourist attraction in the midwest. they boast nearly 5 million square feet in the mall of america and you can also imagine and respect why they call it the mall of america it is now the hub of activity for fans who are coming and also where the media is working from in this week aaduper bowl . >> speaking of tourist attractions they know this one will be usurped by another tourist attraction that comes on sunday night, the big showdown when the eagles take on the patriots. we're all just ready and waiting and willing for that moment to happen. you know, they are rolling out the red carpet in the city which involves a little bit of pride swallowing because of course they wanted the vikings to play in the super bowl. the eagles would would not have that. even though it ended in a way in minnesota didn't want, the vikings team owner had some pretty nice words today. >> neither of these two super bowl teams have had the opportunity to play in u.s. bank stadium. we are excited about what they're about to see. and what the world will see. welcome to the bold north. thank you. >> welcome to the bold north, that's what they call this place and everywhere we looked we saw them dotting the i's and crossing the t's as it were setting up and breaking down and making sure that this place is in tiptop fashion for all the fans that will arrive as this week unfolds and they know that most of the fans will come later on and part of the reason that they do roll out the red carpet brings us back inside the mall. this just generates an enormous economic impact. they said that each shopper on average spends $162 at the mall alone each time they come. several hundred dollars outside the mall in hotel stays and restaurants and dining ex that they may not be in the game are here forthame. yeah, we're e spending our money and we've also seen players, of around the mall as weer bowl wek is about power house, names, celebrities and fanfare so just announced today, they are actually beefing up the lineup going into the super bowl. get a load of this. sting and darius rucker will now be featured performers in super bowl 52's festivities. this will mark sting's third time taking part in the super bowl. it's a for darius rucker also award winning breaking away from hootie and the blowfish. the halftime show of course will be performed by justin timberlake. the super bowl already a gigantic event and they're ramping it up making more announcements of who else will be joining this super bowl this year. >> our superstars are wearing green and will be on the field come sunday night so we're here to tell their story all throughout the week. we'll be following them as jaime said ago smell give way to some light snow tomorrow morning. meteorologist cecily tynan in the accuweather center with details. hey, cecily. >> hi, monica. i hope you enjoyed the january thaw because it is over. i'm tracking colder air and snow on the way. double scan live showing the setup. we actually have two features. there's a coastal low bringing some rain across parts of south jersey, philadelphia looks like it's raining, that's actually evaporating before it hits ground, that's verga. there's a surface trough moving in tomorrow. they stay separate but both bring a brush of snow. future tracker showing this low pressure will brush the coastal area, first rain, early morning snow. that moves out pretty early tomorrow and the surface trough moves in during the day tomorrow with intermittent light snow. it's not going to be a major system but it could cause some problems and tomorrow night temperatures dropping well down into the teens and 20's. so tomorrow night there could be icing on untreated surfaces. tomorrow is an accuweather alert day thanks to these brushes of snow. that coastal low tonight will bring rain changing over to snow along the coast. some areas could get a coating to an inch of snow there. that surface trough moves through tomorrow. that's more widespread intermittent light snow, a coating to 2-inches really depends on where you are. i'll have a map and then i'll talk about not two but actually we have three potential snow events this week. all the details on that coming up in the full accuweather 7-day forecast. >> wow. >> welcome to february. >> we [laughter] >> all right. thank you, cecily. and be sure to wake up with the "action news" morning team tomorrow morning for the latest on this wintry blast. join matt, tam, david and karen for updated information on the storm's path and any impact on traffic. it's starting tomorrow morning at 4:30. authorities are investigating a drive by shooting outside of a popular city avenue hotel tonight. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live in wynnefield heights with the very latest. bob. >> reporter: hey, rick, yeah, this is a a very dangerous and unfortunate situation that happened. it all went down at the hilton hotel behind me on city avenue and stout road. the hotel staff and administration are working very closely with the police to try and figure out what and who did this. it was early yesterday evening right around 8:30. police say the hilton hotel at the corner of city avenue and stout road was fired at. detectives say it appears that a car parked in the hotel carport was shot at in a drive-by style shooting. philadelphia police lieutenant john walker on the shoot >> car comes up down south and starts shooting at the person that's in that car. >> reporter: left neighbors like scott field stunned. >> city avenue shooting in the street like the. >> reporter: like the wild west. >> that's crazy, man, that's crazy. things are getting out of hand around here. >> reporter: dallas dunston says he heard it happen. >> i just heard them shooting shots and i was like wow, they do that around is city line avenue so. >> reporter: take a look at this. detectives say one of the estimated seven bullets fired ricocheted off the steps and into one of the hotel's glass doors. police say t the bullet stopped then it becameem. >> fortunately the window didt. bullets have no names and it's concern when people fire guns. >> reporter: lieutenant walker says the suspect vehicle continuedown stout road. he add the vecle that was shot at took off. >> they got a lot of jails for you, a lot of rooms, a lot of cells. people want to do that with your life. >> there's nothing police could actually do on that. it's on people. it's basically about folks actually having some common decency done what's right. >> reporter: certainly an unfortunate event unfortunate for the hotel and the guest there. now again we are told their staff and administration working very closely with police. we're told they turned over some security video and also of course if anyone out there knows what happened here immediately call the philadelphia police. for now reporting live in wynnefield heights bob brooks channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you bob. roxborough auto shop employee was robbed and shot inside by two men. authorities now need your help tracking the suspects down. it happened at mike's service center in the 8900 block of ridge avenue. one of the suspects pulled out a tek nine semi automatic handgun while the other tried to grab money from the register right there. now when the employee tried to run away he was beaten and kicked. before the men left, they shot the worker in the side unfortunately. >> all right. time nowpdate on the highways and byways for your monday night commute. >> let's take it live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. >> big problems along the schuylkill expressway. it's a motorcycle crash here in the westbound lanes just past girard avenue as you head toward montgomery. the bike is right here on its side. the good news is we've seen the motorcyclist up walking around. the truck was also involved in the accident. now there's a fire truck and an ambulance on the scene so two lanes bloc blocked, only one lane gets by coming out of center city on the westbound side of 76, the schuylkill expressway, which as you can imagine does not do good things to the traffic. we're jammed as you come west of university avenue so coming out of the city this afternoon, i would use the river drives, even lancaster avenue, the westbound side of 76 right there is not where you want to be. had a crash earlier on 95 in south philadelphia. northbound side approaching the walt whitman bridge. that's now all off to the side but speeds are still around 11 miles per hour as you come north of the airport. the platt bridge is busy but would be better or think about using the passyunk avenue drawbridge as another alternate to the girard point. haddon heights crash on 295 southbound approaching 168 off to the side. still slow coming down from 73. patco resumed service, trains not running as frequently as normal but they are running every 20 minutes this afternoon and making all stops. we'll check it again, rick and monica, coming up in the next half hour. >> matt thank you. much more still ahead on "action news" tonight. the flu seems to be everywhere right now at work at school even the grocery store. it's also where you go to worship. what churches and other holy sites are doing to make sure their congregants stay led the bureau after james comey was fired and due to retire this spring. some media outlets say mccabe was told to leave today. president trump has attacked mccabe since it was revealed his wife accepted campaign contributions from a hillary clinton allied from a fail run. >> spreading flu virus has a lot of folks taking extra precautions to protect themselves and that includes many churches. >> ali gorman joins us at the big board with more. hi, ali. >> hi, guys. anywhere you go that has a lot of people coming through, the less you can touch the better. and that includes where you worship. hand shakes have turned into fist bumps or flashing the peace sign inside many churches. there's less touching in an effort to reduce the spread of germs. some catholic churches are also not offering wine and sibow making hand started amore available. few years ago but due to the high flu activity recently many are bumping up their prevention practices. one pastor at union lutheran church outside harrisburg says without universal precautions a house of worship can become a house of germs. >> the one person in has to shake everyone's hand that has to give hugs when they need it has to pick up kids when they need it that's the pastor so right now our lead pastor is on round two of fighting off this flu. >> yikes. these are precautions that you should try to take almost everywhere you go because take a look at this. the flu virus can actually survive, it can live on the surface for up to 24 hours and then when people get the flu they're contagious a day before those symptoms start and then up to a week after they're sick. so, again, you want to make sure that you're washing your hands throughout the day or use a hand sanitizer. wipe down common surfaces. we're here at the news room wiping down all of our desks and computers and also you want to get a flu shot. the vaccine is not as effects tiff this year but it can help to prevent severe symptoms and it could help if eagles fly on the road to victory. >> i like it. that little dedicated eagles fan is andrew his mom tells "action news" he fell and broke his arm last week. this is him singing the eagles fight song because of possible listeria contamination. the 2-ounce and 8-ounce containers had an expiration date on or before april 2nd. these are the ones impacted. company officials say a recent sample did test positive for the bacteria. however, there were no reported illnesses. >> a south philadelphia clothing store just blocks away from the linc is hearing from female eagles fans far and wide and it makes us philly proud. the nrs boutique on passyunk avenue specializes in fans girl fashions. one of a kind women's clothes made from eagles t-shirts. as well as sweatshirts and even more. nicole makes all the items herself in the shop and she's getting orders from women all over who want to show their eagles pride. >> i'm shipping them out pretty much everywhere besides maybe new england area. but, yeah, people are ordering people are coming in. i'm doing a lot of like custom work. >> that's right. people are ordering, people are coming in and they're doing a lot of custom work. she details on a little bit of precip we'll see tomorrow. doesn't look to be majorsystem. >> okay. >> it could cause some problems and with it comes the cold air. we're heading towards february. this is bound to happen. >> absolutely. >> let's head to the "action news" weather center. sky6 taking a look over the commodore barry bridge. the clouds are in place. clouds have been with us all day long. temperatures in the 40's and there is a little bit of rain developing along the coast thanks to a coastal low. double scan live showing that this is really, really light stuff. i don't think it's really reaching the ground in wilmington but near cape may, sea isle city near dover, likely some light showers and you can see they're beginning to push up to the north and east. that's one of two features moving through between tonight and tomorrow that will bring a little bit of that snow and really open the door for some cold air. right now, though, bad. after two days of temperatures in the 50's over the weekend we're in the 43 degrees in philadelphia. normal high for this time of the year is 41. so seasonable. allentown 43. trenton 41. atlantic city airport in pomona 40 and wilmington 43. satellite and radar showing the clouds are in place. we have two systems i'm tracking. one is low pressure. it's off the coast. this is what is bringing some light rain along the shore right now and there's another piece of energy what's known as an inverted trough that's moving in from the midwest. this is what will bring us more widespread intermittent light snow through the day tomorrow. so future tracker showing looks like the morning commute should be okay for most of the viewing area. lots of clouds and we will see some showers, some snow showers developing in our far western suburbs around 8 o'clock in the morning. this continues to push to the east by about lunchtime around philadelphia. notice we're not looking at a loot of heavy snow, just intermittent bands of generally light snow pushing through the coast and beginning to move off by about 4:30. so it's a quick hit. the ground is pretty warm with temperatures in the 50's over the weekend so it's going have trouble sticking. so snowfall totals lakehurst burlington ocean county from the coastal low that's currently bringing rain it will switch over to snow overnight could get a quick one to 2 inches. most of our viewing area from that trough tomorrow, that intermittent light snow we're looking at a coating to 1 inch but our far north and west communities, northern chester county, the higher elevation of upper bucks montgomery county all areas northwest including lehigh valley and the poconos one to 2 inches. this is also where temperatures will be cooler and the roads could get covered. if you are heading to minneapolis take the layers. take lots of them. the next two days temperatures not bad in the 20's but then as we head into the middle of the week we really drop. generally afternoon highs only in the single digits and teens. super bowl sunday seven, overnight lows dropping below zero. tomorrow light snow, the high drops to 37. on wednesday, sunshine mixing with clouds, 35. thursday rain developing at night, 48 degrees. that rain changing over to snow. by friday morning, could be a complicated friday morning commute, 33. on saturday, that's ground hog day saturday partly sunny 31 and i'm tracking the chance of more rain and snow on super bowl sunday. i'll talk about that in the seven-day forecast. ve active >> thank you cecily. >> quick break more news when we come right stay four men were shot and killed in a berks county apartment. reaction from loved ones as police search for the suspect who pulled the trigger. for the first time in weeks, four children were able to go to school today. hear their story and how a community support made it all possible. plus, from cheese to pretzels even cake, the eagles super bowl journey has inspired a new wave of food options for philadelphia. >> and now the details. a community in berks county rocked. walter perez spoke to one of the victims mother and he joins us live from readington night with more. walter. >> reporter: rick, we'll give you a live look at the scene right now. as you can see, police are still here along with lots of friends and family bringing balloons and candles as well. investigators say they believe the victims were targeted in this case. all were shot repeatedly and police officials say it has been a long time since they've investigated a murder case of this magnitude in reading. family and friends came together today outside the apartment where four young men were murdered last evening. they gathered to remember the victims and grieve their loss. the four victims were murdered during what reading police officials describe as the worst shooting they've investigated in a long time. >> we cannot remember any time in recent history where this many people were shot at one time. >> reporter: among those killed was 23-year-old juan rodriguez. we spoke with his mother who says her son was working through serious medical problems to continue his education. >> he a survivor because he went through a liver transplant only 11 months ago. he been in college. he stop the college because he had a liver problem. and now this -- now that happen. >> reporter: also killed were jar lynn tejada and joshua santos both 20 years old. the fourth victim has not yet been identified. it occurred at about 6:45 last evening. someone or possibly a group of people opened fire inside the apartment at 123 south third street. three were pronounced dead at the scene. the fourth died a short time later at reading hospital. family and friends say they have no idea why anyone would want to kill those four young men. >> he was a good kid. he was working. he's a amazing son. >> all i know that none of this had to happen this early. all they want to do is live life. >> reporter: back out live on the scene here until yesterday, there was only one reported murder in the city of reading for 2018, now there are five. so far at this point no suspects and no arrests. anyone with any information is asked to call police. reporting live from reading, walter perez channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, walter. the search is on for a woman who police say abducted another woman and held her at knife point. police say the 28-year-old victim was in the wal-mart parking lot here in the 4600 block of roosevelt boulevard. it happened in philadelphia's somerdale section about 7:45 last thursday night. that is when an unknown woman approached her with a knife. they say the suspect forced the victim into the other car and made her drive to the 6400 block of rising sun avenue to withdraw $500. if you recognize the woman you are asked to call police. >> a new jersey police officer was miraculously uninjured after a vehicle slammed into his patrol car during a traffic stop. >> put on there by the vehicle manufacturer -- >> the pennsville police department posted this body cam video from the incidents friday night on south broad way in pennsville township salem county. police say a woman drove into the patrol car which then hit the vehicle that was stopped. the woman was taken to christiana hospital with serious injuries. the officer and the driver he had stopped were not injured. no word yet on any charges. >> four children in north philadelphia went to school today for the first time in weeks. the children are undocumented and face possible deportation. they have been living in a church claiming sanctuary. well, today community and public officials stood by their side as the children stepped outside of the church. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes has the emotional story. >> reporter: this morning the hernandez children were picked up to go to school from their new home at church of the advocate in north philadelphia. they are undocumented and just stepping foot outside of the building put all four of them at risk of immediate arrest by ice and deportation. [speaking foreign language] >> the interpreter: we think positively so that everything comes out good and nothing bad happens. >> reporter: we talked to 13-year-old katie and her 15-year-old sister jocelyn hernandez minutes before they headed off to school. i asked if she was nervous. she answered yes. [speaking foreign language] >> the interpreter: because of what could happen. >> reporter: they decided to go to school. they are anxious. they got up at 5:00 in the morning to go to school. at first i was scared but now i feel a lot of support. family has lived in philadelphia for two years. they were given deportation orders on december 13th of last year shortly after that the children were pulled out of school and they moved to this church. >> they're not even safe in this building. in church. there's no law that says ice can't come in right now and take this -- this family away. it is common practice that these are sensitive areas, churches, schools. >> today these four children are going to do what every single child in philadelphia has a right to do, to go to school, to study and learn, to come home and feel safe and secure and joyful on these streets. >> reporter: dozens of community members rallied behind them just outside of the building. katie hernandez got emotional as she tried to thank them. >> ♪ >> i feel like we all have to gather our courage and stand up for each other 'cause if we don't stand up for each end up n some pretty, you know -- they could come after me or my kids. >> reporter: and the family has a pending appeal in the third circuit court of the united states. the mother tells me that she will that continue to attempt to find some normalcy until a resolution is reached. reporting in north philadelphia, jeanette reyes channel6 "action news". >> all right. ready. we are less than a week until super bowl lii and today is the first full day the eagles will spend in minnesota as they prepare to take on the patriots sunday night. the action cam is live at the excel energy stadium in saint paul where super bowl opening night is set to begin later this evening. members from both teams will interact with each other on stage for the first time and in front of fans. meantime the eagles got in a workout this morning at the university of minnesota. when they arrived back at their hotel some of the players were in shorts and t-shirts. we remind you the minneapolis area is in the single digits right now so you know the boys are working hard but the players told our jaime apody it's not all work and no play. >> reporter: how are you guys going to kind of handle all this excitement knowing the game is not for a week. >> just keep on enjoying the moment, right now having fun and taking your mind off football but when it's time to turn it on let's go. >> reporter: what does it feel like to be here at the super bowl finally. >> it's a good feeling. just handling it like another business trip, get it done. >> i have those same sunglasses too by the way. >> they're nice. >> eagles arrived in minnesota yesterday. the patriots waited until today to touchdown on the north star state. they flew in on their custom boeing 767 and arrived earlier this afternoon. >> the philadelphia eagles as you know are the underdogs and the concept is still being embraced here at home. in fact, the philly pretzel company is selling pretzels in the shape of dog bones. not only do these bones taste good, they're also doing some good. many locations are donating a portion of proceeds to local animal shelters. a south philadelphia deli is expressing its philly pride in cheese. after you dine on the cheese top off your super bowl feast because of a bunch of accident. one is on the schuylkill expressway westbound between girard and montgomery involved a motorcycle but at least now everything's off to the side. the fire trucks and ambulances have left the scene so the lanes are opened but the traffic in them still jammed solid and the jams spill back here onto the vine street expressway. westbound a solid line across town eastbound not a whole lot better headed toward 95. coming out of the city this afternoon i would still recommend the river drives or maybe lancaster avenue. schuylkill westbound is still plenty slow with some speeds there like 3 miles per hour. if you're headed to monday night wwe raw in south philadelphia, it's been slow there as well on 95 northbound because of an earlier crash approaching the walt whitman bridge. at least that crash is now gone. we're watching a pair of accidents in bucks county, one in springfield township near lucky's produce along richland town pike. i would use 212 as an alternate there. buckingham township a crash along 202 at 413. earlier crash in haddon heights on 295 southbound has cleared out but still speeds in the 20's and 30's coming south of route 38. rick
