But it appears the frigid forecast kept some of the fans away. There were sparse crowds along the parade route today and those who did show up were bundled up tight. Well, ill tell you what, it was definitely cold out here but nonetheless, some people came out and braved that cold and ill tell you what, everyone involved with the parade stepped up big time. Officials say a problem with an underground transformer knocked out the electricity to the apartments at victoria woods. Residents say they grabbed their heaviest blankets and tried their best to stay warm. It got colder and colder as the night progressed but we had comforters and her jacket and my jacket and everything so we roughed it out. A septa bus was brought in to serve as a temporary warming station. Most residents are staying with friends and family until power can be restored. Names of the victims have not been released but we are learning that both families on board have ties to our area. According to a Facebook Post by the family synagogue the steinberg family from new york was on the plane, bruce and irene and their three sons, zachary, william and matthew. William was a student at the university of pennsylvania according to a Facebook Group for the class of 2021. Part of a post published today reads we are very shocked and saddened to hear about the death of William Steinberg and his family. We still cannot believe that they died so unexpectedly. The other family on board the plane is the wise family concerned to the Associated Press by the familys rabbi in saint peters burst florida. He says hannah wise died in the crash along with her parents mitchell and leslie and her brother ari. Property records show the wise family lived in the philadelphia area until 2004 with Properties Listed in Plymouth Meeting Lafayette Hill and norristown. Reporter a new years eve tragedy in Long Branch New Jersey where a 16yearold male is believed tonsil for shooting his parents and older sister an family friend. 63 wife wall street. 635 wall street cross with oakland and long branch. Reporter that young man is now in police custody. Ive heard reports about this being terrorist connected. We would like to disavow that notion. Were investigating this strictly as a domestic incident that occurred within the confines of this home. Reporter steven and linda kologi their 18yearold Daughter Brittany and a family friend. The 16yearold faces four counts of murder. That weapon according to police a semi automatic rifle. The weapon was legally owned and registered to a family member. Reporter Police Responded to a 911 call from within the home and discovered the quadruple murder. The young man police say was the shooter was not previously known to them. He was arrested without incident. His grandfather and brother were not targeted. They left the home unharmed. A motive for the crime was not disclosed. Abc news, new york. Investigators are not released the cause of a new years eve fire that injured a man in Millville Cumberland county. Firefighters were called to the 1700 block of east broad street just after 8 30. A man was trapped inside but everyone else made it out. He was taken to the hospital. We do not know his condition tonight. Two dogs were also inside the house. One made it out on its own. The other rescued by firefighters. Both pets are okay. Well, a dragon caused a traffic backup on i95 in philadelphias Port Richmond section. An app called digital detach goes further creating timed blackouts locking you out of all apps except for texting and calling. Another alternative is to go for a walk without your phone. Wind chills, though, zero to 5 degrees below zero so very cold but not quite as cold as last night and of course weve got clear skies for the supermoon tonight, it rose at 4 41 so you can see it now. But of course we have the breeze, so wind chills were stuck below zero and our highs struggled to hit 20 degrees today. Thats our third coldest new years day on record. And a full 21 degrees below average. Believe it or not theres even colder air waiting in the wings later this week. Right now the wind chill makes it feel like seven in philadelphia. And theres a broad area of arctic High Pressure and this is bringing wind chills below freezing as far south as jacksonville florida, even dallas the current wind chill is 20 degrees, so we are not alone now future tracker showing as we head through the week, the freeze will ease.
