Getting by so we are seeing a southbound backlog. What happened overnight was they were trying to install a new sign using a crane and the sign ended up weighing 15,000 pounds more than they expected to. So, reports are that the sign fell from the crane and then had to be cleaned up. Thats why 95 was closed overnight in both directions here just south of 413. As we come out here you can see the southbound backlog that remains with that one lane being blocked by 413. Were parked in the ongoing Construction Zone. Come down one to woodhaven and from woodhaven get back to 95 southbound or if you want to stay local use hulmeville road or state road. 13 bristol pike has been kind of busy. Coming southbound i would still avoid 95 northbound. Things are clearing up. On the big picture so far not so bad on other chunks of 95, the boulevard, the schuylkill and the blue route, most speeds still in the 40s and 50s but we are watching a crash this morning out in west chester. Its 202, the southbound side at matlack street. Police and a tow truck are on the scene. And its mostly off to the side here so not causing a huge southbound delay as you head down towards chadds ford. Its watching a truck accident in delaware, 495 northbound at 13. So, both directions of i95 were closed between street road and route 413 while they could clear everything out of the way. But shortly after 5 30 a. M. , traffic began getting by in both directions. So, it looks like they opened ahead of schedule. Initially state police didnt think theyd open until 6 oclock, but again traffic has been getting by so thats the good news. Hard to see from this shot but look, life at Temple University and you see our center city skyline. Lets check the numbers for you right now. Yesterdays mild air still kind of in place cause the current temperature is 48 degrees. But in the afternoon, youre going to feel a big change. The dewpoint is 27. Dry air mass in place. Winds are still westerly but theyre going to switch to the northwest later and thats whats going to help it to feel so cool this afternoon. The pressure is currently rising. The wind chill not a big deal just yet, 43 degrees. I want to show you this satellite and radar image especially in philadelphia and areas south, seeing a good amount of cloud cover right now and thats because of an area of low pressure thats riding down to our south. So, were going to see a lot of clouds at least to start us off. 23 degrees is the wind gust in mount pocono. Currently 29 in reading. These are new numbers. 20 in wilmington. So, the winds already gusting at times today and when you see that happen, its going to make it feel a lot cooler than these numbers im about to show you. The high today in the mid 40s. The temperatures a little bit above average. Nothing like yesterday, though. Its going to be a day of partly sunny skies. At 8 00 a. M. Its 42. At 10 00 a. M. , about 44. Heres a look at 3 oclock with future tracker showing in the city and much of the area, see the area of blue, its going to feel like its about 37 degrees so thats a big change from yesterday. The real arctic air is bottled up to the north and west. It is coming in time, just in time for our holiday battle zone. Were tracking to see a couple of things. Weve got a front thats going to be riding around us this weekend. Warm air is going to be along the coast. A couple of waves of low pressure ride along the front and the big question is the second wave that comes, does its placement allow the cold air to move in in time to give us a little bit of snow for christmas . Its still too early to say but heres some of the options here. Now, if this low rides to the west, i dont really think thats going to happen but it could bring rain to the region. If it rides close enough to the coast we could get some rain changing to a wintry mix. If it goes farther out to sea, we would be dry. And yesterday the models kind of looked like oh, maybe, we would see a wintry mix. Today the models in disagreement again. The euro showing it goes too far out and we stay dry. Gfs say maybe a wintry mix or a little snow. Its too early to say but i wanted to show you behind the scenes what were tracking for the holiday. Today wind chills in the 30s despite a high about 45. Tomorrow winter officially arrives with the solstice and its a high of 43 degrees, right about average. Friday is a bit milder we make it up to 50. It looks like the rain for the most part holds off until friday night into saturday. But the Lehigh Valley could see a little bit of light rain or drizzle. Saturday is warm, 62 degrees. Warmest day of this seven day period but its not dry. Were going to be wet at times. On sunday, thats christmas eve, a high of 49 degrees. It looks like some late rain is possible so well have to watch in the Lehigh Valley if its a little slick at night. On monday, thats Christmas Day and thats when were watching the placement of this low. Right now it looks like cold enough air in place it will be just a high of 40 degrees. If we get a bit of wintry mix or snow, it would be in the earlier part of the day. On tuesday, 34 degrees, so thats when the real arctic air hits us. 34. Look at that overnight low. Just about 18 degrees and it looks like it stays cold beyond that. So, some real arctic air coming your way and the big question is does it hit on Christmas Day . Well have to watch for that. Well see. Thank you, karen. 6 11 now. The trip of a lifetime takes a tragic turn. We have new information this morning about the accident in mexico that left a bus overturned and tourists dead. And if you have ever wondered if your untagged photos are floating around on facebook now theres a way you can find out matt. Not floating very freely on 95 in croydon jeanette. Were stacked in the southbound lanes all because of the crane mishap up ahead. Well talk about alternates and a couple other work zones along 95 when action news continues on this wednesday morning. Breaking news at 6 14. Lets go right to matt pelman and get an update on 95. Yeah, near croydon it has been a rough start this morning because we had some problems overnight with a crane that was working on a sign and it turns out the sign was about 15,000 pounds too heavy for the size crane that was trying hold it. So, the sign started to fall. It was a mess. They had to close down 95 in both directions. If chopper can zoom in we might be able to see that the right lane is still blocked along 95 southbound as they try to finish wrapping up this situation. Northbound lanes theyve got them reopened here in the ongoing work zone just south of 413 but, yeah, there is chopper pans in you can see the cones. They do still have that right lane blocked so were seeing a pretty substantial delay southbound along 95 passing that ongoing work zone at 413 as chopper pans to the left, you can see all the people waiting to get through this mess in croydon bucks county. Thats the 413 onramp right there. So, weve been talking about this all morning. Theres also a zone before you get there over the scudder falls bridge also in the southbound lanes, also now causing a backup here by the welcome center. This is also bucks county just over the scudder falls bridge coming in from new jersey, one of the two lanes blocked. You got two separate spots in which youre down to just one lane along 95 southbound so bottom line is, i think you still want to stick with one southbound down to woodhaven road and from there you can get back on 95 southbound or if youre coming in from new jersey, use the turnpike. No issues on the turnpike through bucks county this morning unlike yesterday morning. Thats if youre headed towards bensalem and route one. This is another chunk of route one starting to slow in the southbound lanes of the boulevard extension heading toward that narrowed ramp to the schuylkill westbound. They changed that ramp though. Now youre moving on the left side instead of the right side so things do look a little bit different there. In west chester a crash along 202 southbound at matlack street. Its off to the side. Work on 95 in delaware has cleared. Still watching this truck accident 495 northbound by 13. That, too, though is off to the side so not a big delay at this point. Matt. Thank you, matt. Good morning everyone. 6 30 on this wednesday december 20s. Tam is off. Jeanette reyes joins us. Meteorologist matt pelman is for karen rogers and what was happening was a crane was trying hold a sign that weighed too much for the crane. The sign weighed 15,000 pounds more than they expected it to. So the sign started falling. The road had to be shut down in both directions. Chopper6 is still live over where this all happened in croydon bucks county. This is 95 just south of the ongoing work zone by 413 and you can see we now have some good news. Both lanes opened in both directions even that southbound right lane actually. There it looks like maybe theyre still picking up a couple cones in that right lane. Theyve been trying to clear out and theyve got most of it cleared but part of that right lane is still blocked so we are still jammed as you come southbound on 95 from approaching to pass 413 because of those earlier issues. This is also 95 southbound also in bucks county but a different spot. Just over the scudder falls bridge its another work zone with the right lane blocked. So, same sort of scenario so two times on 95 south in bucks county delays because of construction closures. You might still want to come down route one southbound instead. Meanwhile we had a crash we were watching early this morning in west chester, 202 southbound at matlack. Thats cleared out so everythings opened there headed down towards the delaware state line and in delaware our Construction Zone along 95 has cleared and now our truck accident on 495 northbound has also cleared out of the way. But in south jersey in sewell getting word of a new crash involving a pickup truck off the road and into the woods. Its off of 55 northbound at 553. Not too slow there at this point but it does slow farther north as you approach 42 with speeds in the teens. And in lawnside a crash by the ups Customer Center along oak avenue at grant avenue. Thats cleared out. About another half hour on construction on 295 but at this point delays there dont look too bad. But yeah karen its been an event full morning already. It has. When you want a little peace youre not getting it. Heres satellite and radar showing we have a good amount of clouds especially philadelphia and areas south but were dry today but look at these temperatures, 48 degrees already in philadelphia. 51 in dover. 47 in atlantic city. Even in the Lehigh Valley, 45 in allentown, now 43 degrees in reading so the mild air from yesterday still here with us this morning. cause these temperatures are above our average high for this date. But the afternoon things are really going to change. Its going to feel chilly this afternoon. By 7 00 a. M. , 45 degrees. Holding in the mid 40s most of the day. Lunchtime 45. 3 oclock, 45. All with partly sunny skies. At 5 oclock, 42 degrees. At 7 oclock, 39. The problem is even though youre looking at these temperatures in the 40s its going to feel like the upper 30s when you factor in kind of a chilly breeze that will be switching to the northwest. And tomorrow we are going to welcome the winter solstice. This is when winter officially arrives tomorrow morning its going to happen at 11 28. This is when the suns direct rays are over the tropic of capricorn and you can see the tilt of the earth will be farthest from the sun so thats when you get the least daylight, thats when temperatures are going to be the coolest during the winter season obviously but were also tracking the chance for a little bit of snow. Talk about that in the sevenday matt in a few minutes. Thank you, karen. Back to our breaking traffic news. Crews along i95 tipped the scales when they tried to hang a huge sign with a crane that turned out to be a little wimpy. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott has been watching them try to remedy this situation and joins us live in croydon. Good morning, katherine. Reporter good morning, matt. And theres a big difference here from earlier. Traffic now getting by in both directions on i95 after both directions were shut down for hours overnight. You still may want to use those alternate routes, though, because there is still some equipment here but nothing like it was earlier. Crews were out installing a sign overnight in the southbound lanes of 95 in croydon. It was for and scheduled maintenance. Initially we heard the train malfunctioned but apparently the sign weighed more than they expected that they were trying to install. It was too heavy to move so they had to shut down both directions of i95 between street road and route 413 so they could fix the situation. Initially state police didnt think they would reopen until 6 00 but as it turns out, the lanes started opening shortly after 5 30 and now were hearing that all lanes are opened on i95. So, again, you still might see some slowdowns. However, all lanes are now opened. If youre taking a look at chopper, you can see that everyones getting by here. There is still some equipment here but the good news is all lanes have now reopened on i95 in both directions. So, a huge improvement from earlier when both sides were shut down after that problem with the crane and the sign. We are live in croydon Katherine Scott, channel6 action news. Good to hear. Storm tracker6 live double scan showing were dry through the area and looking good. Lets go on outside and see what it looks like right now. Lots of clouds out and about but were dry. Were looking live here in penns landing, ben franklin bridge and things are moving along this morning and well see some sunshine mixing with the clouds. The temperatures 48 degrees right now. The dewpoint 27. Pretty dry atmosphere. We stay dry today. Winds are westerly right now but theyre going to switch to the northwest this afternoon. Its going to be a chilly breeze at times. The pressures rising. Wind chill isnt a big factor right now 43 degrees but in the afternoon youll feel the difference with in wind chill. Heres satellite and radar showing us that the cloud cover is kind of on philadelphia and areas south most especially so if youre in the northwest you have a better chance to see some sunshine, a little more sunshine this morning. That rain is staying down to our south though its a low pressure down to our south just spilling some clouds into our region. Lets look at the wind gusts. Right now 29 mild wind gust in reading, 23 in mount pocono. 20 in wilmington. The wind will be gusty at times today and thats whats going to make it feel kind of chilly this afternoon. Even though temperatures are going to be in the mid 40s. The wind chills are going to be a lot cooler than that. So, at 8 00 a. M. , its 42. At 10 00 a. M. , 44. At lunchtime, 44 degrees. At 3 oclock, 45. With periods of clouds and sunshine. And then look at what its going to feel like. This is future tracker6 showing the wind chills at 10 oclock this morning, the wind chill in the city just 36 degrees cause the winds at that point will strongly be out of the northwest. This is at 2 oclock in the afternoon where temperatures are going to be in the mid 40s but its going to feel like about 38 degrees. This is a huge change from yesterday when the temperatures were nearly 60 so that Beautiful Day from yesterday, a real change today, its going to feel chilly. And then all eyes on the holiday weekend. So, christmas forecast, were going to have warm air initially in place along the coastline. Saturday and sunday were going to have a couple of areas of low pressure that starts to ride through. On sunday the second low rides through around christmastime, so the question is where does the second low track . What is the precipitation type . Does it move along the coastline and that allows the cold air to move in so then we could get some snow . Today the models are kind of waffling on this. Theres one model that says this low is weigh out to the coast so maybe we would even be dry. Another model suggesting maybe we get a wintry mix so a quick changeover to snow if it kind of hugs the coastline. So, the placement of this low will determine whether or not we see a bit of snow for christmas. So, were still tracking that. Were several days away and i think likely the next few days the models will continue to wobble a little. Wind chills today are just going to be in the 30s even though we have a high of 45. Big change from yesterday. Tomorrow winter officially arrives and its seasonable a high of 43. Friday is a bit milder 50. Looks like we probably stay dry during the day friday but Lehigh Valley and the poconos you might get a little bit of light rain and drizzle. On saturday, its really warm. 62 degrees. That warm air is along the coastline like we talked about and then at night we could have a little bit of rain moving in. Sunday some late rain is possible as we watch, 49 degrees for your high, so sunday night into monday, thats Christmas Day, we could have that possible rain or snow mix, a high of 40 degrees.
