out here along 95 trying to fix the situation. so, without 95, of course, a very busy stretch of 95 in the mornings, where should you go? head over to one, the super highway and roosevelt boulevard or stay local on hulmeville road, even 13 or state road closer to the river but 95 blocked off. we're hearing it could be blocked for at least the next hour. katherine is on her way to the scene. she'll have more in a bit. the roosevelt boulevard extension in east falls, lights out. no crews on the ramp to the westbound schuylkill but they change things on that ramp. you now drive on the left side instead of the right side. things look a little different there this morning. on the big picture lots of other work zones but i want to check the one on the schuylkill expressway. they just reopened the eastbound lanes here at the vine. traffic is getting through. westbound crews have cleared out as well. the zones are clearing but there's still one out here on the ramp 295 southbound that goes south on 42. can't get through on that ramp. forced on the northbound side of 42 until 6 o'clock. we have some better news karen perhaps? >> i do have a little bit -- anything would probably be better at this point. you saw in those camera shots we're clear and dry this morning. we have a fair amount of cloud cover out there. temperatures, though, not bad to start us off. look at these numbers. it's nearly 50 degrees right now in philadelphia. even in the lehigh valley, it's in the upper 40's right now. 50 degrees in millville. 52 currently in dover. 50 degrees in atlantic city. so, starting it off mild but the wind is going to change things for us. it's gusty at times. it makes it feel cooler than those numbers show. at 7:00 a.m., 42. at lunchtime, 44. so, yesterday we were near 60. today temperatures closer to average. at 3 o'clock it's 45 degrees. at 5 o'clock dipping 42. at 7 o'clock 39 degrees. even in the height of the afternoon it's going feel like it's just in the 30's because of a gusty wind so today is going to be much chillier in the afternoon than yesterday. overall, though, a high of 47 degrees. it will feel like the 30's but 47 for your high which is a little bit above average but i want to point out the overnight low. 29 degrees. so, this morning you're waking up, it's about 50 degrees. tomorrow when you wake up it's going to be in the 20's. get that and killed a cyclist near route 13 and corson street in bristol borough last night. police have not identified the victim but they say he was hit by a silver mercedes benz ang like this one which will have considerable damage to the front end. police also found a decorative license plate seen here of an eagle at the scene. call police if you have any information about the car or if that looks familiar to you. the search continues for the person hoop murdered an 85-year-old man in his west philadelphia home. police say willie cooper was stabbed several times in the 5300 block of addison street yesterday afternoon. police say a family member found cooper's body and add there are signs of forced entry from the alley into the basement. however, it appears nothing was taken from the home. police are looking to find the killer and the murder weapon. >> gunfire erupts injuring a teenager and sending a bullet more than a block away into a home with three people inside. the 18-year-old is recovering this morning. the shooting happened last night along the south stanley street in the city's grays ferry section. police found more than a dozen shell casings and witnesses say there were two shooters. they got away on dirt bikes a bullet went through the front door of a home on wharton street. a woman and two teenagers inside were not hurt. and police in philadelphia are still looking for the driver of this car that injured an 83-year-old man raking leaves. officials say the driver lost control and slammed into a house near the intersection of ogontz and andrews in west oak lane yesterday. joe williams was that rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. the driver jumped out and ran off. police theorize this could have been drag racing or road rage or possibly both. >> construction on a controversial new middle school in montgomery county is back on. the upper perkiomen school board reversed a previous decision to stop the project late last night. the prior school board of directors originally approved the project. then voters in the district elected new members who stopped the project earlier this month over concerns of the cost to taxpayers. nearly $8 million has been spent so far on the project. last night's reversal vote was five to four. >> just in time to ring in the new year with fireworks, stores in pennsylvania can now sell aerial fireworks to residents. in the past, people had to go out of state to buy those fireworks. the new law was passed in october and is now in effect but stores will need to have a license to sell those fireworks and it will also cost you. there is a 12 percent fireworks tax in addition to the state's 6 percent sales tax. >> so, karen,. >> so, matt. >> how about a little bit more of yesterday today? we're already above our average high, but it's not going to feel so great this afternoon. the dewpoint is 28. a lot of dry air moving into place. the winds are out of the west currently six to 16 miles per hour but we're seeing some gusts higher than that. the pressure's rising. the wind chill not a big deal just yet, 43 degrees. satellite and radar showing a good amount of cloud cover through the area. you saw that rain suppressed down to the south. we stay dry today. but i want to show you these latest wind gusts. this is a change just coming in within the past 15 minutes. 24 miles an hour wind gusts in mount pocono, a 31 miles an hour gust in allentown. 24 in beach haven. 20 in cape may. 22 in millville. so, where the wind gusts at times it's going feel a lot cooler than these numbers are showing you. so, it's going to feel like a big change from yesterday. yesterday we were near 60 degrees. it was unseasonably mild. today temperatures still a little bit above average, in the 40's, but it's actually going to feel like the 30's so it's a big change from yesterday and you see how it's going to go through the day, a mix of clouds and sun today, it's dry today. not bad at 9:00 a.m., 42. at 1 o'clock, you're sitting at 45 degrees. at 5 o'clock, 42 degrees. but let's look at the wind chills. that's important, right, what it's going to feel like. at 10:30 in the morning, it's going to feel like it's just in the mid 30's in the city. even in the height of the afternoon, 3:30 in the afternoon when the temperature is about 45, 46 degrees, it's going to feel like it's just 37. so, the winds are going to make the big difference for today. all eyes come on the weekend because it's kind of a holiday battle zone and i know some people hoping for a bit of a white christmas. we'll have warm air initially in place along the coast and we've got arctic air that's going to be moving into the plains and the midwest and that's going to press in our region just as a couple waves of low pressure ride along this frontal boundary. and the big question mark is and the models not sure of what's going to happen, where this second low actually places. if it rides right along the coastline, we could be having some rain through the region,. if it pulls a little farther off coast enough that of colder air will come in, we could have a mix of rain and snow, a wintry mix in the area. if it rides further out we'll be dry. so, it really depends on where this low sets up to see what kind of precipitation, if any, we get on christmas day. we'll be tracking that for you around the clock here. so, here's the latest. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, today 47, sounds pretty nice, right? but wind chills are just in the 30's today. despite sunshine. tomorrow winter officially arrives, 43 for your high right about average. friday is a bit milder. we make it up to 50 with a little rain or drizzle probably in the lehigh valley. i think the rest of the area stays pretty dry. saturday is warm, a high of 62. but it won't be entirely dry. we'll have a little rain at times. on sunday, 49 degrees. that's christmas eve. some late rain is possible and we'll have to watch the timing of that in the lehigh valley to see if it could get a little slippery. the high during the day is 49. then on monday the big question mark is that low close enough we get a little rain and wintry mix, 40 degrees for your high. tuesday turning colder behind that, 34 and look at that overnight low on tuesday. 18 degrees. >> whew. >> it is going to be colding right after for more on that crane. >> yes. i think the contractor needs a new crane for christmas. it malfunctioned overnight matt and jeanette and as a result they couldn't put the sign into place that they were trying to install here along 95 in bristol township bucks county. so, there's the crane right there. i just saw something hanging from it. i guess that is the sign. but as a result of this malfunction, no traffic is able to get by in either direction here along 95. yeah, 95 is closed. that's never a good way to start the morning commute. it's blocked in both directions basically between 413 and street road. the scene that i just showed you is just south of the ongoing work zone at 413. as we pull in the waze app our good friend slow down 23 talking about the major slowdown that's resulting from this closure. just 7 miles per hour on the northbound side. they're letting you go north of street road and then having you flip in the median and sending you back down. save yourself a hassle and if you're coming northbound exit at street road. coming southbound they're forcing everybody off at 413. but let's talk about some other alternates because i would stay a little farther away if i were you. maybe head over to one which is the super highway and the roosevelt boulevard. that could be a good option. stick with hulmeville road, 13, state road but 95 blocked off in both directions this morning there in bristol township and of course, we'll keep you posted. they're hoping maybe to have it opened by 6:00 but no definitive word on that. at least the turnpike in bucks county looks a lot better than it did yesterday morning. had some work on the turnpike's northeast extension southbound approaching mid-county but that just cleared out so everything is opened there. overnight work at the burlington bristol bridge is gone. they just reopened a little bit early the ramp from 295 southbound to 42 southbound. was scheduled to be blocked until 6:00 but it's opened now. matt. >> thank you, matt. calmer winds have helped california firefighters make progress battling the massive thomas wildfire but time is running out again as powerful winds are expected to return today. firefighters expect the largest of the wildfires to continue to grow and become the largest in state history. the fire has burned 272,000 acres since it broke out on december 4th, 16 days ago. it has also destroyed more than 1,000 structures including at least 765 homes. more than 6800 firefighters are battling the thomas fire. it is 55 percent contained. >> the former boston cardinal who resigned in disgrace during the church sexual abuse scandal died. bernard law died in rome yesterday after battling a long illness. law resigned as archbishop of boston during the church sexual abuse scandal back in 2002. he stepped down after it was revealed that he had failed to remove sexually abusive priests from the ministry. law was 86 years old. and listen to this story. there was so much alcohol being consumed at a college fraternity party in maryland police say the air inside of the house registered a 0.1 or .01 on a breathalyzer. officers broke up the party at a house in the 40's, but it's actually going to feel like the 30's so it's a big change from yesterday and you see how it's going to go through the day, a mix of clouds and sun today, it's dry today. not bad at 9:00 a.m., 42. at 1 o'clock, you're sitting at 45 degrees. at 5 o'clock, 42 degrees. but let's look at the wind chills. that's important, right, what it's going to feel like. at 10:30 in the morning, it's going to feel like it's just in the mid 30's in the city. even in the height of the afternoon, 3:30 in the afternoon when the temperature is about 45, 46 degrees, it's going to feel like it's just 37. so, the winds are going to make the big difference for today. all eyes come on the weekend because it's kind of a holiday battle zone and i know some people hoping for a bit of a white christmas. we'll have warm air initially in place along the coast and we've got arctic air that's going to be moving into the plains and the midwest and that's going to press in our region just as a couple waves of low pressure ride along this frontal boundary. and the big question mark is and the models not sure of what's going to happen, where this second low actually places. if it rides right along the coastline, we could be having some rain through the region,. if it pulls a little farther off coast enough that of colder air will come in, we could have a mix of rain and snow, a wintry mix in the area. if it rides further out we'll be dry. so, it really depends on where this low sets up to see what kind of precipitation, if any, we get on christmas day. we'll be tracking that for you around the clock here. so, here's the latest. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, today 47, sounds pretty nice, right? but wind chills are just in the 30's today. despite sunshine. tomorrow winter officially arrives, 43 for your high right about average. friday is a bit milder. we make it up to 50 with a little rain or drizzle probably in the lehigh valley. i think the rest of the area stays pretty dry. saturday is warm, a high of 62. but it won't be entirely dry. we'll have a little rain at times. on sunday, 49 degrees. that's christmas eve. some late rain is possible and we'll have to watch the timing of that in the lehigh valley to see if it could get a little slippery. the high during the day is 49. then on monday the big question mark is that low close enough we get a little for more on that crane. >> yes. i think the contractor needs a new crane for christmas. it malfunctioned overnight matt and jeanette and as a result they couldn't put the sign into place that they were trying to install here along 95 in bristol township bucks county. so, there's the crane right there. i just saw something hanging from it. i guess that is the sign. but as a result of this malfunction, no traffic is able to get by in either direction here along 95. yeah, 95 is closed. that's never a good way to start the morning commute. it's blocked in both directions basically between 413 and street road. the scene that i just showed you is just south of the ongoing work zone at 413. as we pull in the waze app our good friend slow down 23 talking about the major slowdown that's resulting from this closure. just 7 miles per hour on the northbound side. they're letting you go north of street road and then having you flip in the median and sending you back down. save yourself a hassle and if you're coming northbound exit at street road. coming southbound they're forcing everybody off at 413. but let's talk about some other alternates because i would stay a little farther away if i were you. maybe head over to one which is the super highway and the roosevelt boulevard. that could be a good option. stick with hulmeville road, 13, state road but 95 blocked off in both directions this morning there in bristol township and of course, we'll keep you posted. they're hoping maybe to have it opened by 6:00 but no definitive word on that. at least the turnpike in bucks county looks a lot better than it did yesterday morning. had some work on the turnpike's northeast extension southbound approaching mid-county but that just cleared out so everything is opened there. overnight work at the burlington bristol bridge is gone. they just reopened a little bit early the ramp from 295 southbound to 42 southbound. was scheduled to be blocked until 6:00 but it's opened now. matt. >> thank you, matt. calmer winds have helped california firefighters make progress battling the massive thomas wildfire but time is running out again as powerful winds are expected to return today. firefighters expect the largest of the wildfires to continue to grow and become the largest in state history. the fire has burned 272,000 acres since it broke out on december 4th, 16 days ago. it has also destroyed more than 1,000 structures including at least 765 homes. more than 6800 firefighters are battling the thomas fire. it is 55 percent contained. >> the former boston cardinal who resigned in disgrace during the church sexual abuse scandal died. bernard law died in rome yesterday after battling a long illness. law resigned as archbishop of boston during the church sexual abuse scandal back in 2002. he stepped down after it was revealed that he had failed to remove sexually abusive priests from the ministry. law was 86 years old. and listen to this story. there was so much alcohol being consumed at a college fraternity party in maryland police say the air inside of the house registered a 0.1 or .01 on a breathalyzer. officers broke up the party at a house in
