when a man opens fire killing more than two dozen people inside the youngest victim was just five years old the 26-year-old gunman was shot and killed and tonight investigators are trying to figure out why he would have committed such an heinous act and the big story on action news is still developing from texas for a small town coming to grips with a terrible loss. >> at this hour the death toll stands at 26 and those victims losing their lives at the hands of a young man in tactical gear and bulletproof vests and motives unknown. >> during morning services at the baptist church in the town of sutherland springs about 30 miles southeast of san antonio. action news reporter annie mccormick is following developments all day and is live from the satellite center with the very latest annie. >> the death toll now does remain at 26 victims, 30 people are wounded. the shooter is among the dead. now members of the small community are waiting to find out the names of all of the people who were killed, those victims ranging in age from five years old to 72 years old. a candlelight vigil outside the first baptist church in sutherland springs texas just hours after the bloody massacre. the death toll a number of wounded continues to rise. the shooting began around 11:30 central time in the middle of sunday morning service. >> he was dressed in all black, the suspect crossed the street to the church, exited the vehicle and began firing at the church. announcer: witnesses say the suspect shot people inside and outside of the church. authorities say a neighbor engaged in gunfire with him then the suspect fled and was found dead after a brief pursuit, local, state and federal officials are investigating. >> we have multiple multiple crime scenes and the church outside the church and where the suspect vehicle was located, we have following up on the suspect and where he is from, his residence. >> reporter: state and federal law enforcement sourceses are identifying the suspect as 26-year-old devin kelley of texas the airforce confirms kelley served in logistics readiness at the airforce base in new mexico from 2010 until his discharge. sutherland is outside of san antonio with population of hundreds to a thousand people today shortly after the carnage as they rushed the injured to local hospitals residents turned to prayer many of the first responders left their own church services and arrived recognizing the victims. no one appears to know the suspect. a local pastor from another church in town offered words of comfort. >> devastating for us and for our community but the god is still in control. he is still in control and no matter what happen to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord so if there is anyone in that church that died we know they are in the presence of our lord jesus christ right now. >> reporter: the governor of texas saying this tonight. >> as governor i ask for every mom and dad at home tonight put your arm around your kid and give your kid a big hug and let them know how much you love them. >> reporter: authorities do not have a clear motive yet this is still very early in the investigation and late details tonights we are learning and abc news confirmed that kelley was court marshalled in 2012 for assaulting his spouse and child and also received a bad conduct discharge and confinement for 12 months and authorities continue to scour his media accounts and search his home and speak to those closer to him and live in the satellite center ann arb an mccormick. the first named victim is 14-year-old annabelle pomeroy her father is the pastor of that church but he was out of state this weekend. he wants the world to know his daughter was quote one very special beautiful child developing story in our area tonight police have now identified the woman found dead in cobbs creek on friday she is a 21-year-old art student investigators say she was strangled and action reporter christie ileto is live from police headquarters with details christie. >> reporter: they identified her as 21-year-old kiera johnson and reported her missing on thursday, her body was then discovered 24 hours later action news was there as homicide detectives combed through cobbs creek after 21-year-old johnson's body was discovered face down on a creek bed and police say the cause of death is literature strangulation as of now there are no witnesses. johnson is a student at hudson art school in spring garden according to an essay she penned interning at mass parks student intake program she is passionate about the arts and land conservation a motive for her murder though is not immediately clear. again police say right now there are no witnesses to this crime so anyone with information about her killer is asked to contact homicide detectives live at police headquarters christie ileto. >> a motorcycle officer is recovering after he was hit by a car in center city it happened near broad and chestnut street a group of protesters was marching down chestnut to broad street and officers were blocking traffic along the route and the injured officer's motorcycle was hit by another vehicle who suffered minor injuries. philadelphia police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a 20-year-old man tonight here in south philadelphia. it happened just before 8:00 a.m. on broad near katerine. the victim was rushed to jefferson hospital where he was pronounced dead. philadelphia police are searching for the gunman who opened fire on a group of people on a porch overnight killing a 16-year-old and injuring a 12-year-old. it happened on the 2700 block of north 19th street in north philadelphia. 16-year-old marquese houston was struck and the 12-year-old struck in the leg and houston died a short time late ore. a woman had smoke inhalation in delaware county and police and firefighters were on king avenue after 5:00 by neighbors who saw smoke rising from the scene and it wasn't until they went to the back alley though when they saw the flames. >> they put the fire out and after they put the fire out and made entrance is when they found the victim. >> reporter: taken to chester medical center no word on age or identity and an arson sniffing dog checked out the scene and no word on how the fire started. in north philadelphia firefighters made quick work of a fire behind a school there and a call from potter thomas elementary in 3800 north 6th street came in at 6:30 p.m. and turned out to be a dumpster fire and the fire was put out and the school
