coatesville chester county, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon, thank you. brand new here at 4 o'clock today philadelphia investigators busted a major illegal gambling ring. they say the operation helped fund family's lavish lifestyle. nine people have been charged including the alleged ringleader gary cray seen. cray ran on underground lottery location and made at least $3 million in illegal profits. his daughter son and nephew are among eight others charged in this case. gray hall will explain how this operation allegedly worked tonight at 5 o'clock. >> a gas leak caused a number of evacuations this afternoon in atlantic city. chopper6 was overhead as crews worked to cap the ruptured line at the intersection of tennessee and adriatic avenues. there are reports the line was punctured. residents in the area and students and staff from the new york avenue school were all evacuated for about an hour. they returned once south jersey gas got the leak under the weekend. we'll show you the stretch of 70's on wednesday, a high temperature of 72 thursday 72 and today so far in philadelphia coming in at 74 degrees, well above the normal high of 65 this time of year. it is really warm all across much of the eastern half of the u.s. check out chicago right now. 78 degrees. 75 in saint louis. out to the west in wichita, kansas coming in at 77 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing we've got this dominating ridge of high pressure for most of the eastern half of the u.s. so it stays in control as we head into the weekend. all of the unsettled weather coming up from the gulf of mexico and right through the plain states well away from our region for now. so, it is a nice night if you're stepping out on the town or perhaps to watch some high school football we've got friday night lights clear and comfortable calm wind for kickoff, a temperature of 61. as we get into the fourth quarter that number drops down to 58 so a light includes realtime views from 6abc six. >> police released new video of a car wanted for a deadly hit-and-run in southwest philadelphia. take a look. they want to find whoever was behind the wheel of this minivan. investigators say the van was speeding when it hit a 57-year-old man on sunday night. the victim was killed as he was crossing the 2300 block of 67th street. police are looking for a gray dodge caravan or a chrysler town chrysler town and country. a security guard came under fire early this morning during an attempted robbery. two suspects approached the 2000 block of mckinley street in northeast philadelphia. then they fired shots at the guard. and also at responding officers who chased them down. the two suspects are now being questioned. luckily no one was hurt. >> a person had to be rescued following a car crash in camden county. chopper6 was over the scene along route 42 in gloucester township. now police tell "action news" the driver lost control and landed in the wooded area near coles road just about 8 o'clock this morning. rescue crews were called in to free a person trapped inside the vehicle. so far no word on the number or extent of injuries connected to this crash. >> well, excitement is building in south philadelphia as the 76ers get ready to make their home debut. >> joel embiid and the team hoping tonight brings them their first win of the season. rocking in about three hours for game time and the home opener sixers-celtics, can you wait? and there's so much buzz about this team and this city. the players can feel it. they have felt it for months now and fans coming in will get this t-shirt with a caricature of all of the players on the team and saying welcome to the moment. what a moment it will be tonight. if the sixers can get that first win, of course, they're coming off a loss in the season opener wednesday down in d.c. coming oh, so close in the final minutes of pulling it off possibly sending it to overtime and possibly getting that first win. and all they have to do according to head coach brett brown is tie up a few loose ends. robert covington believes this team once they learn how to win games is going to be restored. awful situation there and just adding insult to injury those are two of the same lines that were suspended yesterday afternoon because of a pedestrian accident. but this afternoon it looks like the trains will run, they'll just probably be a little bit late. don't forget the 11 trolley is not running as of last night. 82 your on the buses instead because of track work in darby. and we're running extra slow on 95 in bucks county this afternoon. southbound side there was an overturned vehicle here by the 413 on-ramp in bristol township. looks like most of the activity is now off to the side but it's still a slow go coming down from route one. on the big picture plenty of slowing as well, hunting park of a blocked because of a downed pole between seventh and ninth. had an earlier broken down vehicle on 95 northbound near cottman that has cleared and a crash in jersey on 295 southbound is gone but still speeds like 17 miles per hour there. let's grab the ipad do the capitol hill today amid increasing calls for information about an attack that killed four american soldiers. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are demanding clarity about the ambush attack in niger two weeks ago. now, that surprise attack played out as islamic militants seized a u.s. convoy. still unknown why the convoy didn't have cover and why it took two days to recover one of the four bodies. >> we in the department of defense like to know what we're talking about before we talk and so we do not have all the accurate information yet. we will release it as rapidly as we get it. >> secretary mattis met privately with republican senator john mccain today. mccain a who chairs the armed services committee has been critical of the slow flow of information from the trump administration and has threatened to subpoena them. mattis has pledged better communications. >> police in florida think they may have prevented a massive and deadly attack after finding an arsenal of weapons. 24-year-old randall drake had 20 guns, three explosive devices and more than 15 knives in his home. detectives initially went there to investigate a separate child pornography case but instead they discovered his dangerous stockpile along with notes on how to build bombs and also maps of two schools and a water treatment plant. drake is held in protective custody for a mental health evaluation. >> mike warren believes she's being falsely accused. sheila keen warren is behind bars in florida arrested for allegedly killing warren's first wife marlene. it was a case that sat cold for decades until just last month. the case broken wide opened thanks to dna testing is the focus of tonight's brand new 20/20. the true crimes story airs tonight 10 o'clock right here on 6abc. >> well, there is some terrifying moments on board a school bus in north carolina when the front of the bus erupted in flames. the driver and 16 high schoolers on board had all rushed to safety right before this. they evacuated as soon as they smelled smoke. you can see the vehicle is gutted now with only the frame, ash and char left. investigators say the fire started in the engine. a special consultant is scheduled to inspect the bus on monday. >> chester county's largest mushroom growers is going global. based in kennett square they're building a new mushroom production facility in china. one of the companies owners joined county officials on the long trip to shanghai for a groundbreaking ceremony. the farm will allow them to sell its mushrooms in one of the world's biggest economies. >> now look at the closing numbers on wall street today. the dow soaring 165.5 points today closing well above that 23,000 mark closed the week. the nasdaq also up 24 points, the s & p 500 on the rise just about 13 points on the day. in new jersey, despite not winning the 2017 dancing with the gloucester county stars event, county clerk james hogan had a lot to celebrate today. hogan raised more than $40,000 for his charity of choice vets helping vets. hogan was surprised with a plaque for his craning contributions. >> twenty-sixth philadelphia film festival. 10 days jam packed it's been stunning for days now and the streak continues. >> that stretch of 70's continues, temperatures well above average and it's looking nice outside. the sky6 live in hd as we walk over to the weather center looking at penn's landing on this friday afternoon, a bright blue sky, not a cloud in the sky right now. pretty comfortable even as you're heading out tonight. in fact we'll show you the temperatures across the delaware and lehigh valleys. we are well above average. 74 degrees in philadelphia, same thing in allentown, down in lancaster 71 at the coast in cape may, 70, beach haven 71. dover right now 73. millville in the upper 70's so if you're stepping out later on tonight, 7:00 p.m. we've got a mostly clear sky, a temperature of 67. it is nice and mild this evening. 8 o'clock, 9, 10 o'clock temperatures will be in the lower 60's underneath a mostly clear sky. so, as we look at satellite6 along with action radar not going to find a whole lot of activity today as high pressure is dominating our region. we are clear dry and quiet from new england down across the midatlantic region. we're tapping into a northwesterly wind flow so it suppresses the cloud cover today and dries out the atmosphere as well. for the rest of tonight it is clear, it's calm, it's not too chilly. we'll drop down to 42 in allentown, 52 in philadelphia, 51 degrees in cape may and 51 degrees in dover for the overnight low. look up in the sky tonight because we've got some meteors taking place. you can see up to 20 meteors an hour and something else to keep in mind, no moonlight to obscure what you could see up in the sky. the moon will be illuminated by about 1 percent so we certainly have good viewing conditions and the best time to view this will be from midnight to dawn. it's peaking tonight and into early tomorrow morning. for the start of our weekend, we're looking pretty good, even warmer tomorrow. 8 o'clock in the morning we've got a number of 52. as we get into the lunchtime hour, temperatures will be in the middle and upper 70's across much of the region. keep in mind average for us this time of year is 65 degrees so well above that tomorrow. here's future and. when it comes to this style showdown, the internet wins. >> but we're going to begin here at 4:30 in ocean county with a homeowner who decorated her home maybe a little too well for halloween. the display which features a ghoulish car crash is so realistic people have been calling the police. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic talked to the woman behind this macabre magic. she's live now in watertown -- rather waretown with a closer look. nora, hello. >> reporter: hi there, brian. this is the display that's causing so much attention, grabbing so much attention. these fingers you see are supposed to look like zombies but as you said apparently some folks have mistaken them for real people. the creator of this scene who loves halloween isn't making any apologies for this gory display. >> you see where it's on the news, honestly if we were in real life on tv. >> reporter: she's talking about the controversial halloween display she's put up in her front yard a bloody scene that depicts two zombies taken out by a crashed car. >> somebody reported it saying they didn't like it. they did get reports previously of it saying that someone thought it was real. >> reporter: it was so real or disturbing kristen says people called the police who showed up at her door to check on the display. >> how could somebody call the cops on a halloween site that clearly is fake. >> reporter: kristen stuffed the zombies with pillows and made legs out of car parts. the blood she says came in a bottle. she's hearing compliments and complaints about it. >> i don't like the graphicness but people do so, you know, to each his own. >> i've seen the other way laying on the ground? i don't know if it was there yesterday but today i'm like oh, my god there's another one laying there and that's good. >> reporter: you like it. >> yes, i do. >> it's not to really scare people it's just to be halloween and zombies and that's what halloween is about. >> reporter: kristen says all the ghosts and goblins and that graphic display in her yard are just a way to enjoy her favorite holiday. >> its like halloween has died down and become nothing like what it used to be and that's what we want to bring back. that's what we want to remind people of. >> reporter: now kristen says that halloween is by far her favorite holiday, way more than christmas and she hopes that people won't be scared by this display. she hopes that they'll enjoy the zombies the same as she does. live in waretown, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." brian. >> quite the sight there nora. thank you. get ready for halloween 70 between at 6abc. there you can find the top candy cravings in our area and some unique ways to decide on your costume. plus you can get an inside look at some of the region's best haunted attractions on 6abc.com/halloween. >> philadelphia police need your help finding a gunman accused of going on a morning crime spree last weekend. investigators say this man first stole a wallet from a customer at the market laundromat in west philadelphia at 9:15 last saturday morning. 30 minutes later, this same man is accused of trying use one of the stolen cards at the discount plus electronics, that's a few blocks away. instead, he allegedly pulled out a gun and robbed the clerk. police say at 10:15, that same morning the gunman then hit up another business robbing the best choice wireless on south 52nd street. take a close look. if you recognize him, contact southwest detectives. christina parkway in newark delaware is back opened at this hour following an emergency repair job. "action news" was there shortly after deldot crucifixd a large crack in the road between elkton road and south college avenue. officials closed the parkway just afternoon to repair the hole which was at least 10 feet long and 8-inches wide. a more permanent fix is planned for later date. >> protesters gathered outside local congressman's office today accusing him of and enabling the opioid crisis. the group gathered outside republican ryan costello's west chester office pointing to his role as a co-sponsors of a bill that many say weakened the dea's ability. >> ryan costello was whipping the votes for a bill that devastated the dea's ability to stem the flow of these prescription narcotics and taking these big contributions from the pharmaceutical industry. >> now, in a written response this afternoon congressman costello said it was "sickening that democrats are trying to politicize this crisis." he dismissed the activists as paid political protesters but he said he's in the process of evaluating whether the purpose of the law that he worked to pass is being realized. if not he said congress will need to fix it. >> time now for the accuweather forecast. nice looking friday. >> the best. >> yeah, really. >> 74 degrees, 4:30 in the afternoon, meteorologist melissa magee standing by in for adam joseph today and we're in for a really nice weekend. >> really nice one, yeah. temperatures well above average and comfortable too. we'll show you the numbers across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. they're in the 70's. 74 in philadelphia, 73 as you look over into trenton, down the 95 corridor in wilmington we're coming in at 75 degrees at the airport in atlantic city we have a number of 74. sky6 live in hd there in chester at talon energy stadium and there will be a lot of action at that stadium as we head into the weekend. in fact we've got philadelphia union forecast as they take on orlando city at 4:00 p.m., it's mild with a bit of a milky sky as we get into sunday. we've got a south to southeasterly wind, temperature a 74. a nice finish with that temperature coming in at 70 degrees. coming up we're going to take a closer look at the forecast because numbers say above average as we head into the weekend but we're tracking changes early next week. we'll take a closer look with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> volunteers sprucing up one of philadelphia's affordable housing communities. the work is being done around the old factory site transformed into a neighborhood for low income families. members of the pennsylvania horticultural society and employees from td bank teamed up to plant trees and the other landscaping around the area. this was part of the bank's tree days program. some of the world's top soda companies are now facing a lawsuit over whether their products should include the word diet. 125th birthday. and the celebration will last all year long. the market officially turns 125 on february 22nd but today organizers revealed a series of special events and programs planned to celebrate. there were people in victorian dress to represent what it was like when the market first opened. they helped with the announcement by unveiling the 125th birthday logo and starting a countdown clock for the start of the celebration. well, it is the perfect day to take an outdoor stroll today and that's exactly what these little ones did at the children of america day care in turned her in to police after seeing surveillance video of her crime. watch as alexandra dusnip digs through a wallet police say isn't her. they say the rightful owner was lying on the ground having a seizure as she stole his credit cards inside a utah 7-eleven. police recently made the footage public and then her parents immediately called in with the tip. during her arrest she admitted it was her in the video but says she doesn't remember a thing because she was under the influence of xanax. >> nasa has dropped some fascinating news about the moon. scientists say new research suggests the moon was not always a dry airless rock. after studying old lunar samples nasa believes the moon was shrouded in an atmosphere thicker than mars with volcanoes glowing on the surface. researchers surmise it was made up of volcanic smoke that lasted about 70 million years. they say it's likely the source for some if not all of water detected on the moon. >> ♪ >> health check at 4 o'clock today, if you're one of the people who suffer from a fear of clowns experts say it could be because of the elusive nature of their appearance. psychologists in cleveland say because clowns wear makeup and conceal family there. good afternoon to you brian. not exactly a model commute that's for sure. we've had plenty of issues already on this friday afternoon including the suspension of a couple of the regional rail lines. the good news is they're running now. they are the warminster and lansdale doylestown lines but they're still running behind so expect up to half hour delays if you ride those lines and don't forget if you ride the 11 trolley, you're not on those trolleys as of last night, you're on buses now instead for a little while. it's all because of track work going on in darby. meanwhile had an overturned vehicle crash in bucks county, 95 southbound right in the work zone at 413. that just cleared out but there are still some residual delays there as well. speeds in the 20's as you come southbound from route one but at this point the speeds on one southbound are actually worse. so i would stick with 95, just expect it to be a little bit slow. camera time. elsewhere on 95 here in fishtown hope you're enjoying that new northbound pavement. you're moving slowly over it this afternoon as you so often do coming out of the city during the afternoon commute. otherwise on the big picture speeds are pretty much normal. normal being 11 miles per hour on the schuylkill expressway, yeah, it's a busy friday afternoon. in hunting park, hunting park avenue is still blocked between seventh and ninth. that's a crash that brought down a pole there so taking some time to clear. on the pennsylvania turnpike there's a crash eastbound approaching norristown in the normally busy spot blocking the left lane so just 14 miles per hour coming east of valley forge and a really nasty crash in hatfield this afternoon. in fact a medical chopper has been called to the scene. you want to avoid vine street at edgewood drive and a few problems in delaware including a new crash on 95 southbound at mlk. just 11 miles per hour. stay on 495 southbound through the first state. we'll check it through so a south to southwesterly wind. warm with numbers in the 70's. we're a good 10 degrees above average but we will be tracking this trough of low pressure and a pattern change next week so cooler air funneling to the south from canada and we're tracking this trough that will work its way into our region as we get into tuesday and that is going to bring some steady if not heavy rain as we get into early next week across portions of the eastern half of the u.s. and even here at home. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. sunny and warm tomorrow, a high temperature in at 77 coatesville chester county, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon, thank you. brand new here at 4 o'clock today philadelphia investigators busted a major illegal gambling ring. they say the operation helped fund family's lavish lifestyle. nine people have been charged including the alleged ringleader gary cray seen. cray ran on underground lottery location and made at least $3 million in illegal profits. his daughter son and nephew are among eight others charged in this case. gray hall will explain how this operation allegedly worked tonight at 5 o'clock. >> a gas leak caused a number of evacuations this afternoon in atlantic city. chopper6 was overhead as crews worked to cap the ruptured line at the intersection of tennessee and adriatic avenues. there are reports the line was punctured. residents in the area and students and staff from the new york avenue school were all evacuated for about an hour. they returned once south jersey gas got the leak under of year. it is really warm all across much of the eastern half of the u.s. check out chicago right now. 78 degrees. 75 in saint louis. out to the west in wichita, kansas coming in at 77 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing we've got this dominating ridge of high pressure for most of the eastern half of the u.s. so it stays in control as we head into the weekend. all of the unsettled weather coming up from the gulf of mexico and right through the plain states well away from our region for now. so, it is a nice night if you're stepping out on the town or perhaps to watch some high school football we've got friday night lights clear and comfortable calm wind for kickoff, a temperature of 61. as we get into the fourth quarter that number drops down to 58 so a light includes realtime views from 6abc six. >> police released new video of a car wanted for a deadly hit-and-run in southwest philadelphia. take a look. they want to find whoever was behind the wheel of this minivan. investigators say the van was speeding when it hit a 57-year-old man on sunday night. the victim was killed as he was crossing the 2300 block of 67th street. police are looking for a gray dodge caravan or a chrysler town chrysler town and country. a security guard came under fire early this morning during an attempted robbery. two suspects approached the 2000 block of mckinley street in northeast philadelphia. then they fired shots at the guard. and also at responding officers who chased them down. the two suspects are now being questioned. luckily no one was hurt. >> a person had to be rescued following a car crash in camden county. chopper6 was over the scene along route 42 in gloucester township. now police tell "action news" the driver lost control and landed in the wooded area near coles road just about 8 o'clock this morning. rescue crews were called in to free a person trapped inside the vehicle. so far no word on the number or extent of injuries connected to this crash. >> well, excitement is building in south philadelphia as the 76ers get ready to make their home debut. >> joel embiid and the team hoping tonight brings them their first win of the season. we're running extra slow on 95 in bucks county this afternoon. southbound side there was an overturned vehicle here by the 413 on-ramp in bristol township. looks like most of the activity is now off capitol hill today amid increasing calls for information about an attack that killed four american soldiers. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are demanding clarity about the ambush attack in niger two weeks ago. now, that surprise attack played out as islamic militants seized a u.s. convoy. still unknown why the convoy didn't have cover and why it took two days to recover one of the four bodies. >> we in the department of defense like to know what we're talking about before we talk and so we do not have all the accurate information yet. we will release it as rapidly as we get it. >> secretary mattis met privately with republican senator john mccain today. mccain a who chairs the armed services committee has been critical of the slow flow of information from the trump administration and has threatened to subpoena them. mattis has pledged better communications. >> police in florida think they may have prevented a massive and deadly attack after finding an arsenal of weapons. 24-year-old randall drake had 20 guns, three explosive devices and more than 15 knives in his home. detectives initially went there to investigate a separate child pornography case but instead they discovered his dangerous stockpile along with notes on how to build bombs and also maps of two schools and a water treatment plant. drake is held in protective custody for a mental health evaluation. >> mike warren believes she's being falsely accused. sheila keen warren is behind bars in florida arrested for allegedly killing warren's first wife marlene. it was a case that sat cold for decades until just last month. the case broken wide opened thanks to dna testing is the focus of tonight's brand new 20/20. the true crimes story airs tonight 10 o'clock right here on 6abc. >> well, there is some terrifying moments on board a school bus in north carolina when the front of the bus erupted in flames. the driver and 16 high schoolers on board had all rushed to safety right before this. they evacuated as soon as they smelled smoke. you can see the vehicle is gutted now with only the frame, ash and char left. investigators say the fire started in the engine. a special consultant is scheduled to inspect the bus on monday. >> chester county's largest mushroom growers is going global. based in kennett square they're building a new mushroom production facility in china. one of the companies owners joined county officials on the long trip to shanghai for a groundbreaking ceremony. the farm will allow them to sell its mushrooms in one of the world's biggest economies. >> now look at the closing numbers on wall street today. the dow soaring 165.5 points today closing well above that 23,000 mark closed the week. the nasdaq also up 24 points, the s & p 500 on the rise just about 13 points on the day. in new jersey, despite not winning the 2017 dancing with the gloucester county stars event, county clerk james hogan had a lot to celebrate today. hogan high pressure is dominating our region. we are clear dry and quiet from new england down across the midatlantic region. we're tapping into a northwesterly wind flow so it suppresses the cloud cover today and dries out the atmosphere as well. for the rest of tonight it is clear, it's calm, it's not too chilly. we'll drop down to 42 in allentown, 52 in philadelphia, 51 degrees in cape may and 51 degrees in dover for the overnight low. look up in the sky tonight because we've got some meteors taking place. you can see up to 20 meteors an hour and something else to keep in mind, no moonlight to obscure what you could see up in the sky. the moon will be illuminated by about 1 percent so we certainly have good viewing conditions and the best time to view this will be from midnight to dawn. it's peaking tonight and into early tomorrow morning. for the start of our weekend, we're looking pretty good, even warmer tomorrow. 8 o'clock in the morning we've got a number of 52. as we get into the lunchtime hour, temperatures will be in the middle and upper 70's across much of the region. keep in mind average for us this time of year is 65 degrees so well above that tomorrow. here's future tracker6 as we get into the second half of our weekend, 10:30 on sunday morning, numbers along the 95 corridor and most locations will be in the upper 50's, lower 60's and we continue to rise with the in the video but says she doesn't remember a thing because she was under the influence of xanax. >> nasa has dropped some fascinating news about the moon. scientists say new research suggests the moon was not always a dry airless rock. after studying old lunar samples nasa believes the moon was shrouded in an atmosphere thicker than mars with volcanoes glowing on the surface. researchers surmise it was made up of volcanic smoke that lasted about 70 million years. they say it's likely the source for some if not all of water detected on the moon. >> ♪ >> health check at 4 o'clock today, if you're one of the people who suffer from a fear of clowns experts say it could be because of the elusive nature of their appearance. psychologists in cleveland say because clowns wear makeup and conceal family there. good afternoon to you brian. not exactly a model commute that's for sure. we've had plenty of issues already on this friday afternoon including the suspension of a couple of the regional rail lines. the good news is they're running now. they are the warminster and lansdale doylestown lines but they're still running behind so expect up to half hour delays if you ride those lines and don't forget if you ride the 11 trolley, you're not on those trolleys as of last night, you're on buses now instead for a little while. it's all because of track work going on in darby. meanwhile had an overturned vehicle crash in bucks county, 95 southbound right in the work zone at 413. that just cleared out but there are still some residual delays there as well. speeds in the 20's as you come southbound from route one but at this point the speeds on one southbound are actually worse. so i would stick with 95, just expect it to be a little bit slow. camera time. elsewhere on 95 here in fishtown hope you're enjoying that new northbound pavement. you're moving slowly over it this afternoon as you so often do coming out of the city during the afternoon commute. otherwise on the big picture speeds are pretty much normal. normal being 11 miles per hour on the schuylkill expressway, yeah, it's a busy friday afternoon. in hunting park, hunting park avenue is still blocked between seventh and ninth. that's a crash that brought down a pole there so taking some time to clear. on the pennsylvania turnpike there's a crash eastbound approaching norristown in the normally busy spot blocking the left lane so just 14 miles per hour coming east of valley forge and a really nasty crash in hatfield this afternoon. in fact a medical chopper has been called to the scene. you want to avoid vine street at edgewood drive and a few problems in delaware including a new crash on 95 southbound at mlk. just 11 miles per hour. stay on 495 southbound through the first state. we'll check it cooler air funneling to the south from canada and we're tracking this trough that will work its way into our region as we get into tuesday and that is going to bring some steady if not heavy rain as
