Eye on the surf and the potential for flooding and following an accuweather alert for parts of our region as the impact of hurricane jose begins to peak. We have Live Team Coverage tracking the effects at the shore and we begin with cecily tynan with the latest from the National Weather center. Monica and rick hurricane jose remains a category hurricane maximum sustained winds 75 Miles Per Hour. Its tracking 200 miles off coast and you can see the highest winds, the most intense rain right around the center of it, beginning to make the turn to the northnortheast. Moving at 8 Miles Per Hour. Some showers are moving in south jersey and delaware and even a few light showers near philadelphia and the reports show you that we are dealing with gusty winds and one buoy in the mouth of the delaware bay winds sustained at 28 Miles Per Hour and gusting up to 40 Miles Per Hour but the most intense part of jose is the wave action. Its really whipping up the surf wave heights impressive up to 25 feet at the center of the storm and closer to land wave heights of 11 feet and constant wave action piling up the water at the shore and that produces the tidal flooding. The next concern is the high tide cycle between 7 30 and 8 30 along the shore. The back bays one two two hours after that. And looking for moderate tidal flooding tonight and even tomorrow morning the potential for minor flooding. The coastal flooding and the beach erosion the main concern with jose. Jose is a category one hurricane and we have Hurricane Maria a powerful cat five. 165 Miles Per Hour winds heading toward st. Croix and puerto rico. Ill have more details on this storm in the full accuWeather Forecast. Thank you. Chad pradelli is tracking joses impact for us on the shore firsthand. Live in ocean city tonight. Reporter hey monica, impact certainly being felt in ocean city. And the rain picked up in the last 10 minutes, here on 5th street at the boardwalk, want to show you the surf. The main issue is with this storm is the high surf. The waves are powerful and peaking hundreds of yards from the shore line and you see it coming all the way here under the boardwalk. I was talking to a woman that lived here in ocean city for 20 years, she says this is the first time she saw the water come under this section of the boardwalk, i want to show you the beach erosion the second aspect with the jose impact. So far with this storm. You see that dune was extended out yesterday i would say 20 to 30 feet according to residents that were here that is washed away into the atlanta ocean. You see the sharp cliff look there on the dubs and they are now getting washed into the atlantic ocean. Not a whole lot of people on the boardwalk, take a look. A few people were coming to take pictures and for the most part not a lot of people. I was talking to people and they say they saw people out in the waves, and you see how strong it is. Yesterday an adult and three children were in the waves. Phonings you need to stay out of the water, that is the warning from officials. Rip tides have been particularly bad this year and with this storm, the rip tides are deadly and people need to stay out of the water. It is dangerous and looks inviting but stay ashore. Well watch the tidal flooding later this evening and more reports later on on action news. Chad pradelli, channel 6 action news. Thank you. Lets head down to North Wildwood and that is where jeff is continuing the Team Coverage tonight. Reporter rick, the rain is picking up here as well. So is the tide. Take a look. We are still several hour as way from the official high tide. But within the past 30 minutes, we see this water, the waves get larger and stronger and coming and crashing over the rocks. Jose is several hundreds miles out to sea and the folks in North Wildwood are feeling the effects. It came up to here and jonah came up to here flooding is nothing new to mike newell and mike clark, they are keeping an eye on the back bay. Just feet away. Streets around the mens Home Flooding during high tide and is expected to be worse tonight. What are you expecting tonig tonight . I expect it to go in the house but i hope not. North Wildwood Fire Department is getting ready and high water vehicles are fueling up in case of emergency. Meanwhile onlookers gathered to watch the rough seas and high winds and crashing waves gave residents and visitors quite a show. Its almost never this high. This is low tide, and it looks like full high tide. The waves are ridiculous and you cant walk on the beach the sand was blowing in our face. And the waves washed away part of the beach and this pavilion was closed for fear of collapse and the city is facing erosion and possible flooding the mayor is keeping a positive outlook. Im having a hard time not moving around. I cant imagine going through a category one or two. That would be something that would be really devastating. Reporter back out live the winds continue to crash ashore. I have a feeling when we are back here at 6 00 tonight we probably wont be able to stand in this spot and the waves continue to get larger and closer. The mayor says he is expected two feet of water. And some of those low lying areas after tonights high tide. Reporting live in North Wildwood, channel 6 action news. Thank you. Live in easton with the full story. Reporter rick, the da says that the investigation is not over yet and toxicology tests are not back yet but the story told by witnesses seem to corroborate in this case and paint the picture of an accident and nothing criminal akin to the penn state case. The da means that after interviewing everyone that had contact with whlafayette Mccray Williams there is no reason to believe anything criminal occurred. I have no evidence of criminal conduct on the part of anyone. Witnesses said williams was drinking through the weekend beginning on friday. And never appeared to be out of control or overly intoxicated but by saturday afternoon williams was in his dorm room and started vomiting and a fee female student went to check on him and he vomited again. She is not paying attention and hears a loud sound. And turns around to look she sees mr. Williams on the ground. He reportedly said he was okay and when to sleep in his bed. Over the next 24 hours or so his teammates popped in to check on him and then williams slept through the morning and when the teammates check on him again they described him as groggy and agitated and decided to take him to a doctor and called the coach who instructed them to call 911. Williams was in the backseat of a vehicle and then taken to the hospital where he died the following day. It seems the Blunt Force Trauma occurred when he fell and the only thing the witnesses are guilty of is not knowing what is going on. He was saying from what i gather, get out of here im sleeping and he was not unconscious even when they took him to the hospital he was semi conscious. He was asked about the possibility of underage drinking charges, proving anything like that in court this far after the fact is virtually impossible. No criminal charges will be filed at this point. Moving northeast at 8 Miles Per Hour. We see showers developing from jose moving inland. Lets head to the Weather Center this is radar on jose and you see the showers reaching the i95 corridor and not reaching the northwest suburbs as jose spins up the coast 200 miles off the east coast. So the rain showers are ending around midnight as jose continues to push to the northeast and once it is out of here we are getting set for summer like temperatures, actually right through the weekend, our first weekend of fall, jose is weakening offshore and it will kind of sit and meander there for days. If you head to the jersey shore and delaware bays this weekend, the rip currents and high surf continues through the weekend. And with the temperatures you may want to head to the with each. Double scan live radar showing now we have showers moving from jose and hammonton and glassboro and pinwheeling in from the north and east off the atlantic and that is piling up the waters. Temperatures you see depends where you are. Allentown and reading they say jose its not affecting us . Sunshine and temperatures in the 80s and mixture of sun and clouds and right along the shore with the clouds and showers, quite a bit cooler with temperatures in the upper 60s. You see satellite and radar here is the center of the storm again pushing to the northeast holding on to the category one status with maximum sustained wins of 75 Miles Per Hour. And moving into cooler water as we head through the week and that means it will continue to weaken and the time we are concerned about for high tide is the tide cycle. Moderate tides in Atlantic City but tomorrow morning and even tomorrow evening well still see some coastal flooding but it should be on the minor side. Once we get rid of jose temperatures begin to warm. We have a little bit of an upper level disturbance moving through tomorrow. So it wont be completely bright and sunny, 11 0078 degrees and temperatures in the low 80s in the afternoon. The big story in the atlantic is Hurricane Maria.
