Could get into the 30s maybe even the low 40s at times but the Tropical Storm watch down the shore has been canceled because this storm just doesnt look like its going to be close enough to give us Tropical Storm conditions. Mariners take note though. The conditions just off the coast are going to start to get rather dangerous. On the coast, coastal Flood Warning today. Breakers on the beach eight to 10 feet. Thats going to give you beach erosion and strong chance of rip currents. High tide, the morning high tide not too bad minor flooding there but for that evening high tide moderate flooding down along the water and up in the bay. 71 in cape may, 70 in trenton and wilmington. 69 in allentown. Fairly comfortable as you step out just a little bit humid. Lots of clouds, some sunny breaks cant be ruled out. 74 by noon and a high of 77 at 3 oclock today. Breezy and at times a little damp. Some of those spotty showers down the shore could push inland briefly at times this afternoon. When i step inside weve got a big time improvement in the forecast for tomorrow and looks like a summertime weekend for the first weekend in autumn if you get my drift karen its going pretty warm. Looking forward to that. For now were keeping a close eye on the coast as we expect coastal flooding that could be an issue during the morning or evening commute. Looking live on the garden state parkway at the cape may toll plaza not seeing any problems. Everything is looking good and we have light volume down here so know issues on the garden state parkway as you go further inland not expecting any kind of issues with in related to hose say. Currently looking live in cherry hill Camden County this is route 70 at kings highway. I showed you this shot a little bit ago. We saw the cones out there, the construction blocking a lane. They have left the scene so route 70 moving nicely. That the your westbound traffic headed towards 130 and no issues out there in cherry hill, new jersey. Lets check over, this is the time of the morning were starting to see volume build and thats the case here on i95 past academy. Southbound traffic here heading towards center city and a little building volume here but not major issue right now. On the vine street expressways weve noticed a little bit of eastbound volume. Not a big delay but just something to watch. The vine was closed overnight for construction. Its all reopened but crews will shut it down again tonight, tam. Thank you, karen. Going back to our continuing coverage of hurricane jose, even though that storm is hundreds of miles off the coast, its still stirring up the surf on delaware and jersey beaches and we could be in for some coastal flooding and beach erosion. We have Team Coverage along the shore. Jeanette reyes is live along ocean city. First up lets turn to bob brooks live in wildwood and has caught quite a bit of wind this morning. Good morning, bob. Reporter good morning, tam, yes, tons of wind. Were seeing sustained 25 miles an hour wind gusts maybe a little stronger maybe up to 30 at this point but what really is happening is the surf is getting really rough from jose out in the ocean. Behind me you can see just how big theyre crashing against the rocks. When we first started this morning we were down at the first gazebo at the corner of second and j. F. K. We simply had to move. The waves are coming up over the seawall almost on a regular basis at this point. Our trucks started to get wet, some of our equipment became in jeopardy so we had to move down to this point. Another thing people were worried about was beach erosion. That too is starting to happen down here. This other gazebo or overhang theyve built down here, you see that little curvature in the sand on the corner of the cement right there . That was a big chunk of sand that was hanging and a big wave kim up and knocked it down so beach erosion is also starting to happen now. A little statistic. Two days ago on sunday up in Atlantic City they had to make 12 rescues because of jose. Well, the surf is much worse today at this point so for everyone watching at home, do not go out into that water. You do not want to become another statistic because of jose. For now reporting live in North Wildwood, bob brooks channel6 action news. Thank you bob. Rough surf is also expected in Atlantic City. This is what it looked like yesterday when people came out to the beach to see the large waves. The beaches are opened but officials are discourage people from going into the water. Little further south from there is ocean city, Cape May County. Lets turn now to action News Reporter Jeanette Reyes live there. Good morning, jeanette. Reporter good morning, matt. The winds have calmed down just a bit. Its picking up now of course as im saying that. We saw some men here riding their bikes and i was chatting with them about the rough surf here. Theyre saying theyre certainly noticing the difference you can hear the difference as the wave crash along the shore. Let me show you the winds right now. You can see those flags there in the distance, theyre blowing in the wind. The gusts are kind of coming and going but theyre pretty steady for the most part throughout the morning. And as far as those waters, its not as strong as ive seen bobs shot here as far as the waves crashing along the shore but they are certainly rough. You have the rough surf which is certainly expected throughout the day. So we talked about that rip currents, beach erosion. This is not the day you want to be in the waters although we do expect people to come out to the boardwalk and take some videos and pictures which is what we saw yesterday as well. It is interesting to see but dangerous to get in. Well let you know as soon as we see some activity this morning. It rained a little, maybe a little drizzle but not stopped so at this point other than the rough surf and the gusty winds, everything is pretty quiet. Reporting live in ocean city, Jeanette Reyes channel6 action news. Jeanette thank you for that. And another storm that were closely watching is Hurricane Maria regained strength now back to a category five just as it was last night in dominica. Soon the sun will be up and well be able to see just how much devastation maria has left behind. The countrys Prime Minister took to social media saying his own roof was torn off and that there have been widespread damage. The storm is following a similar path to that of Hurricane Irma so now the hurricane warnings for puerto rico and the u. S. Virgin islands. Officials on the islands fear that debris left behind by irma that it could become projectiles whipped up by the new storms and posing an extra threat. Whether you sell toys or televisions or any type of product that can be put in a box and shipped you have to wonder how long you can hold out until you collapse under the weight of amazon. Maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square with our market watch report. Good morning, maribel. Reporter hey, good morning, matt. Toys r us has filed for bankruptcy protection. The retailer expects most of its storms remain opened for the holidays. It will use 3 billion in bankruptcy financing to fund its operations. Toys r us will look to restructure 5 billion in debt and the chain struggled in that recent years as walmart target and amazon took over more of the toy market. The dow posted its 40th record close of 2017. Weve got reports on Housing Starts and Building Permits due out today and the feds starts a two day meeting. Thats the latest in business. Back over to you matt and tam. Lets turn to dave murphy now to talk about jose and maria and everything else. Zero whole lot of stuff going on. Storm tracker6 shows you we have a little bit of rain creeping in off the coast off of the early onset outer bands of jose but its light rain and most of the steadier stuff farther out to sea probably stays there today frankly. As we take a look outside, we have cloudy skies, a little bit of mist and drizzle on the camera lens there so its a little hard to see the Commodore Barry bridge and some of you farther away from the rain i just showed you might have some drizzle or some light mist on the windshield blowing around out of those low lying clouds. 71 degrees is your temperature, your dewpoint at 67. Moderately humid this morning. Winds starting to get a little bit more blustery, 14 Miles Per Hour and the ocean temperature is 73. Thats going to be the main issue inland from jose. A lot of clouds, maybe an occasional sprinkle or shower and a bit breezier. Still a category one hurricane. Thats jose, 240 miles eastnortheast of Cape Hatteras beginning to push away from North Carolina probably becomes a Tropical Storm then as it gets up to our latitude and then spins around off the coast through the weekend before it degenerates into an extra tropical low and its really not an issue after that. But today is the issue day as we do have Tropical Storm force winds, highlighted in Yellow Holding just off the coast. We have canceled the Tropical Storm watch along the beach although it still exists in the water off the coast. But we still have some decent gusts coming in on Atlantic City surf city and Rehoboth Beach today and thats something to keep in mind. Not as bad as it was looking yesterday but still an issue. As we look at the rain on future tracker6 not a whole lot making the coast. It is possible that later today we get one band that sets up farther inland but mostly this is down by the water and not adding up to all that much. Models right now have really backed off even since runs in the overnight hours were now down to under a tenth of an inch of rain. We have issues lingering at the coast. Even though theres not a Tropical Storm watch were still looking at a 1 foot storm surge over ground level. Breakers eight to 10 feet easily enough to give us a high risk of rip currents and beach erosion today and wind gusts probably in the 30 to 35 Miles Per Hour range. At some point today maybe you get something in the 40s but its not going to be as sustained nor as strong as it was looking yesterday. Overall in philadelphia, just kind of a cloudy day with some sunny breaks. 72 by 10 oclock. 74 by noon. And 77 degrees is your high by 7 oclock. By 6 oclock, 74. And you can see the regional highs across the wide area probably somewhere in the 80degree range in allentown, reading and lancaster. Upper 70s in trenton, philadelphia and wilmington. Well go 77 in philadelphia. And down the shore 73 to 74 your range of lows there. Dodgers and phillies will play baseball tonight even if theres a little sprinkle. 73 for the first pitch, 71 in the ninth inning and Hurricane Maria still a major hurricane. It made land a fall in dominica last night its now pushing away from guadalupe and still looks like its taking its aim right at puerto rico. It could actually come near the eastern coast of puerto rico as a category five hurricane, go over that land mass as a category four, turks and caicos could get their second category four of the season. Then it pushes up to the north as a three and still some uncertainty as to where it goes after that so sometime early to middle of next week well be keeping a close eye on that one. 77 degrees, breezy and damp today. Maybe a couple of sprinkles and showers, not too bad. Some sun tomorrow then, humid, 85 degrees. Rosh hashanah arriving at sundown and then on thursday, 86 degrees, pretty nice day although it could be a little humid. Fridays looking good. Sun a few clouds for the arrival of autumn a high of 84. And for the first autumnal weekend its not feeling autumnal. 85 degrees is your high on saturday. 86 sunday. Looks like another one to make plans. Theres a lobster up in main that predicted more summer, so there you go. Theyre getting it. Thanks, david. 6 11 now. Developing overnight unrest at a College Campus. Also creating wind gusts in the 20s, 20 some miles an hour along the coast. For the rest of us who arent along the coast were going to see damp conditioning. It will feel a little bit wet at times. 71 degrees the current temperature. 69 in reading and 69 in millville. Headed up only to 77 today so staying below average mostly cloudy skies and damp but the chance for rain and stronger wind gusts is along the coastline, matt and tam. Thanks karen. Good morning, its 6 30 on this tuesday september 19th. Lets get you going with your weather and traffic. Weve got dave murphy and karen rogers with more. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. Lets take a look at our traffic maps right now and show you whats going on as we look outside live right now on the roads and what were seeing currently are dry conditions along the coast. Of course weve been watching for this very carefully as we watch for the impact of jose off the coastline but currently on the garden state parkway at the cape may toll plaza we see traffic here moving very nicely. Switching over to i95, were starting to see some heavier volume so youre watching that southbound traffic build and you can notice that travel time now of a 20 minute ride traveling from woodhaven to the vine on 95. No major accidents but people headed out to work right now and starting to slow things down on i95. On the vine street expressway noticing westbound traffic already jamming right now as you approach the schuylkill expressway. Eastbound we have a disabled vehicle and although its off to the side, youre seeing some slowing eastbound as well so some heavy volume eastbound on the vine street expressway here approaching the schuylkill. On the lower providence township weve got an accident here on trooper road at ridge pike. An accident there near that area has cleared but weve got one on county line road at Doylestown Pike thats causing a problem and South Broad Street at Sumneytown Pike so a few accidents starting to pop up through the region right now but of course the main eyes are on the coast dave where everyone is watching jose. No kidding. As we take a look at the coast right now, karen, you can see storm tracker6 live double scan and we are looking at some showers from jose beginning to enter the coast. These are mostly light. In philadelphia away from that green theres also an occasional little mist or drizzle drop on your windshield but the rain main down closer to Atlantic City, surf city and pushing inland from there. The wind gusts along the shore are starting to pick up in some spots. 28 Miles Per Hour right now in beach haven. Only 18 in cape may and theyve waxed a little bit in Atlantic City. Theres no longer a Tropical Storm watch along our coastlines in delaware and new jersey because the storm itself is a little bit farther out to sea. But we still have some blustery conditions and those are producing some problems along the ocean front. The coastal Flood Warning is in effect until the wee hours of wednesday morning, probably expires around 1 00 a. M. The high tide this morning is between 7 15 and 8 15, minor flooding there. But between 7 30 and 8 30 tonight moderate tidal flooding expected. We have eight to 10foot breakers giving us a high risk of rip currents. 69 in allentown, 69 in reading. 70 in trenton and wilmington. 71 in cape may. Fairly comfortable as you step outside. As we go the day, a high of 77 today lots of clouds although we have to allow for sunny breaks later on. When i step back well take a look at the track of jose and also maria which is still a monster down in the caribbean. Matt and tam. Okay, thank you david. Lets stay with jose right now. The red flag warnings are up. That hurricane is kicking up high surf at the beach and jersey shore towns are not taking any chances. We have live Team Coverage. Jeanette reyes is live in ocean city. We begin with bob brooks who is sometimes trying to maintain his footing in a windy North Wildwood. Bob. Reporter matt, good morning. Very windy. Very rough surf happening right now. Were having wind gusts at about 25, 30 miles an hour right now on the corner of j. F. K. And second. Now behind me i want to show you take a look, scenes like water on the street, it looked like it rain, that is water coming up from the ocean over the seawall. Thats why we had to move our van the we actually started off down about 200 yards at that first pavilion. You can see how big those waves are crashing against the rocks right there. Its coming up over on a regular basis now so we had to move everything down to this location right here. Now, another big concern as i heard david talking about was some beach erosion. Were having that here. I spoke with man who says they just put this cement and these rocks in along this pavilion a year ago. You can see a lot of it now has washed away. If you pan out pan the camera out right there into the middle you see another big rock. That just dropped its covered up now. That just dropped out of here because of waves coming up over the edge. So beach erosion and rough surf. Two days ago in Atlantic City there was 12 rescues so the message today is certainly do not go out into the water because jose is really causing some big surf. For now reporting live in North Wildwood bob brooks channel6 action news. Bob thank you for that. And fast rising waters spilled into the parking lot at the bay park marina in avalon during high tide last night. Earlier in the day workers used equipment to push sand up the beach in anticipation of beach erosion. High tide rescue vehicles are also on standby. Officials are warning residents to move their cars to Higher Ground if they are in a flood prone area. For more on whats happening right now lets go over to Jeanette Reyes, shes live in ocean city. Good morning. Reporter good morning, tam. Throughout the morning weve been talking about the gusty winds. Thats been a steady issue here but we could hear more than we could see the rough surf and i want you to see it now that its a little lighter out here. I was talking to an older couple here and they were just standing kind of in awe at how rough the surf is. Take a look at that. You have another gentleman there also kind of standing there for a few minutes looking at the waves crashing in. This is of course all a result of hurricane jose churning up the east coast. It was quite a sight to see. They have been taking pictures and videos as well taking all of this in. But beach erosion is also a very real concern t if you take a look at this video here earlier this morning pow an hour ago there was a gentleman out here kind of shoring up some of the dunes because that is one of the Major Concerns this morning. Weve been spared of anything major. However, the beach will be taking a hit. So, one of the things that we have to advise and believe it or not some people will not heed the warnings, is you want to stay out of the water. The rip currents will be very dangerous today. The last thing you want to do is get in. However, we understand some of the curiosity to come out here along the boardwalk and take pictures and videos. Just make sure you dont get too close to the water. Reporting live in ocean city, Jeanette Reyes channel6 action news. Thank you jeanette. Rough surf is also building in Rehoboth Beach delaware. Waves came crashing down right around high tide last night. A few brave swimmers dared to take a dip but did not venture very far. The next high tide in rehoboth is at 8 00 a. M. Now to the first signs of damage from the powerful Hurricane Maria. The storm made landfall on dominical late last night as a category five storm and thats what its back up to now. The Prime Minister of the island Roosevelt Skerrit says that he fears that most of the homes and businesses that you see in this tape, theyre now destroyed. Skerrit himself had to be rescued when that winds tour the roof off of his home. Were on the verge of day break so he and other officials are now getting ready to assess all the damage and get going on the search for survivors. The storm is now moving towards the Virgin Islands and puerto rico where it could be a direct hit. Aside from power outages, the u. S. Territory was spared the worst from irma but now those 450 shelters that they opened for irma, they will be staying opened and in place for maria. Lets turn now to dave murphy with the latest on those hurricanes and the local weather. Yeah, locally storm tracker6 live double scan right now shows us that we do have some of that precipitation and it is moving ashore right along the coast of south jersey and now pushing into about central to northern Atlantic County and central Cape May County as well. As we take a look outside, we have cloudy skies over the ben franklin bridge and even in philadelphia where theres no active rain, you might get some drizzle or mist on your windshield because we are looking at some of those clouds low enough to produce some of that at the surface. 71 degrees in philadelphia, 70 in wilmington currently. 70 in trenton. Despite the somewhat damp feel its not a bad morning across most of the region. 69 degrees in allentown. 67 in reading. Down the shore is where youve got those sprinkles and showers moving in. 71 in cape may and a. C. Hurricane jose is still a category one. It is back on track and actually pushing a little bit farther away from us than expected. It should degenerate into a Tropical Storm and then eventually an extra tropical low off our coast during the weekend. This is really the impact period here and the storm far enough away and weak enough where we have now dropped the Tropical Storm watches along the jersey and Delaware Coast lines. Rain isnt going to be much of an issue either with that storm so far away from us. Future tracker6 shows you that occasionally a sprinkle or shower pops through. There might be a band that manages to set up out west of philadelphia later today but overall this is just not very much rain. Probably less than a quarter inch just about everywhere. But we still have issues at the shore and the biggest impacts would involve those breaking waves. Eight to 10foot breakers on the beach. That means damaging beach erosion. Minor tidal flooding during the morning high tide over the next double of couple of hours. Moderate after dinnertime tonight. And dangerous rip currents in the water. Youre being advised to stay out of the water. Not a bad idea. There will be better swimming weather coming up later on in the weekend in all likelihood although we still want you to keep your eyes on it because we still got another hurricane down south. Mostly cloudy, rip currents, 74 degrees the high. In allentown looks like youll be warmer with a high around 80 degrees, mostly cloudy, mainly dry although well allow for a passing shower. And mostly cloudy and at times a little damp in philadelphia, dry most of the day. 77 is the high and winds a little bit blustery across the region especially the closer you get to the shore although philadelphia could get a gust up to the 20s, maybe 30 at times. A shower early tonight, 67 degrees, still a little bit breezy. Hurricane maria still a major hurricane down in the tropics. It came ashore last night in dominica came close to guadalupe now the eye is pushing away from guadalupe and making a direct beeline towards san juan puerto rico where it looks like it will arrive as a category five or four, prowl right through puerto rico plow right through puerto rico and degenerate into a three but thats still a major hurricane pulling away from the turks and caicos and heading up towards the east coast of the u. S. A lot of questions about the long range future of that. Sometime next week well have more clarification but keep your eyes on maria. 77 degrees breezy and damp today. Not a lot of rain overall though. And then tomorrow some sun mixing with some clouds, a high of 85. Might feel a little humid. Not bad though for the arrival of Rosh Hashanah at sundown. Warm and humid on thursday 86 and as we go into the coming weekend it stays warm. On friday, 84 degrees as autumn arrives. The first full weekend of autumn is going the feel like summer. This does sometimes happen. 85 degrees on saturday. 86 on sunday. And then 86 on monday with a thunderstorm. Very nice stretch of weather coming once we can kick jose out the door. Thank you david. It is 6 vote. 6 40. A woman saves herself from a robber by faking a health scare. Karen. Slow traffic as we look live in Chester County on the 30 bypass past 340. Traffic heavy from 340 to 113. Well take that you live coming up next. 6 43. Big waves coming ashore here in cape may, new jersey. Check it out live on sky6. The jersey shore, conditions are deteriorating as jose far out to sea is kicking things up bringing some wind hopefully not too much damage though at the jersey shore today. Pretty at a distance, karen. Lets talk about traffic. Yeah, thats right. So well be watching for coastal flooding along the coastline. Were not seeing any problems with that just yet on the roads. And here on the schuylkill we wouldnt expect an impact from jose but were looking at traffic. Its jamming up. This is your westbound traffic looking live at city avenue and here youre heading towards belmont. Pretty jammed already. You see that eastbound ride a 25 minute ride between the blue route and the vine so starting to jam on the schuylkill but no accidents there. Lets look at the big picture. Here are our slow speeds on the schuylkill about 13 miles an hour there. Were now down to about 17 miles an hour on i95 southbound. You want to watch for some slower traffic right there as well. Lets take a look at whats happening in some of the other areas like the suburbs here. We had two accidents, one on county line road, another on South Broad Street in Montgomery Township and they have both since cleared. We have an accident in Upper Macungie causing a problem. 6 miles an hour on i78 westbound right near route 100. Its blocking a lane and when i78 we have restrictions, youll see speeds just crawling along in the Single Digits up here in the lehigh valley. I want to go over to the commuter traffic report because on the waze app i found crystal feud talking about an accident on 295.
