center. there's plenty of cloud cover sweeping across the region. not that we won't see some sun breaking through at times but high clouds begin to filter in and there's what's left of irma, no longer a tropical storm and anything we get out of this is probably going to be falling apart today. tomorrow i think there's a better chance of some spotty brief showers popping through. 62 degrees in philadelphia, 52 in allentown, karen's right yesterday we were down into the mid 40's in some of our northern and western suburbs. not so this morning. 58 in wilmington. 62 currently in cape may and as we go through the afternoon, not too bad. we'll see those clouds increasing as the day goes on but it will be warm and pretty comfortable. 76 degrees by noon. by 3 o'clock, that's your high, 81 degrees. and by 5 o'clock, 79. so, for the bus ride in this morning, you don't need to be quite as intense with maybe a jacket or whatever as there still isn't too much wind out there and temperatures are not quite as bad as yesterday. 54 in some outlying suburbs and 60 degrees in philadelphia more or less on the bus stop this morning. we have a chance of a brief shower here or there from what's left of irma tomorrow. we'll have that story, a little bit more instability as we head towards the weekend, karen. >> all right, dave. roads are dry this morning. construction in the process of moving out. we see traffic moving just fine on the schuylkill expressway. looking live here at the blue route, westbound traffic headed towards gulph mills and moving nicely. also the overnight construction has cleared on the schuylkill near 30th 30th street. the rest of the region you see the green traffic flow on the big picture. blue route, schuylkill, i-95 in pretty good shape. no construction on the vine street expressway last night so that's pretty good news. construction does block the left lane on i-95 near the commodore barry bridge until 5 o'clock as you're heading southbound on i-95. let's check some of your other roads like here on i-95 at route one. this is live in bucks county. construction here should clear within another half hour. in the meantime you've got the right lane blocked. you see the cones set up here on i-95 northbound heading toward the scudder falls bridge, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. well, breaking overnight, fire tore through a wilmington delaware home. one man was killed while other person was critically hurt while trying to jump to safety. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live on the scene of the 100 block of west 37th street. good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, tam. the scene is still somewhat active even though this happened several hours ago. i want to step out of the way so you can see the home. you can actually see a little bit inside of it. it is all just black because of the flames that tore through the right side of this home here. it happened around 11:30 along the west 37th street. nearly 40 firefighters arrived on scene and were met with intense flames coming from the front door. they were told that one person was trapped inside but they first had to get much of this fire -- put much of it out. firefighters did search the home and found a man inside. paramedics immediately began working on him and he was transported to christiana hospital in critical condition. he would later be pronounced dead. a woman was also taken to the hospital in critical condition with injuries she suffered while trying to escape the home. she jumped out of this home and finally a third patient was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. of course, the big question this morning was what caused this fire. we understand that the wilmington fire marshal is now on scene. they're looking into the cause of this fire but again, one person is dead and another critically injured. reporting live in wilmington, jeanette reyes, channel6 "action news." tam. >> thank you for that. police are looking for the gunman who fired shots on the 2500 block of zebley place. one bullet struck a man around 11 o'clock in the evening. he's only been identified as a man in his 30's. the victim was transported to the know serious condition. >> irma downgraded to a tropical depression but the storm is still battering the southeastern u.s. this is video showing charleston second. as a hurricane irma hammered parts of florida where some residents are still waiting to get a look at the damage. abc's stephanie ramos joins us live in miami where she's been with us all this week throughout the hurricane. what's the latest there stephanie. >> reporter: well, matt, miami really avoided the worst of hurricane irma but there are still areas near south florida that are littered with downed trees and streets. some streets are covered in mud because of all the flooding but storm surges really affecting florida from coast to coast. hurricane irma weakening to a tropical storm but not before zeroing in on another target. that's central florida. there is record setting flooding in jacksonville. this is owner adam shafer returning to his office to find it under water. >> jacksonville is a beautiful place and we're really bummed to see this happen. >> reporter: from north florida to the south irma first making landfall in the keys as a category four hurricane and it was relentless. we're now getting a look at the damage from the air. boats grounded, cars buried, homes are destroyed. >> you come home and you see this, it's devastating. it's devastating. >> my heart goes out to the people in the keys. i mean, it's -- there's devastation. >> reporter: the raging storm blasting rain in orlando, devastating marco island. we have no water on the island so we're encoura people if you don't have to come back right now, don't. >> reporter: today millions of people across florida are without power as utility crews work nonstop to get the state up and running again. >> i don't see the power coming on any time soon with all the flooding. >> reporter: irma got to almost every inch of the state but many floridians say they feel lucky that they avoided epic flooding, especially here in south florida. reporting live from miami, stephanie ramos, channel6 "action news." matt. >> thank you, stephanie. "action news" spoke with a local radio dj who was caught in the path of hurricane irma during his vacation in saint martin. dj touch tone says irma's violent winds ripped apart the simpson bay resort in a matter of minutes. he and his friends spent the next four days rationing at the hotel before they could make it off the ravaged island. >> it got to appoint where it went from one bottle of water a day to a cup of water. i just sat and prayed god just get me out of this. >> a military cargo jet took dj touch tone and several other americans to puerto rico where they eventually made it out of the caribbean. he says he is happy to be home but his thoughts are with those on the islands who are now left with nothing. abc is joining other networks tonight in a star-studded benefit to raise money for the victims of hurricanes irma and harvey. join us for the live telethon right here at 8:00 p.m. on 6abc. >> the engineer in that deadly amtrak derailment is due in court. the philadelphia district attorney had declined to file charges so then a judge ordered the case to move forward. when one of the victims' families filed a criminal complaint. bostian faces eight counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2015 disaster in port richmond. eight people were killed and about 200 more were injured. >> happening today, family, friends and former villanova basketball players will say their final farewell to coaching legend rollie massimino. a funeral will be held today at saint thomas of villanova church on the university's campus. mourners began paying their respects during a viewing there last night. he lost his patel with cancer last month at the age of 82. he won more than 800 games throughout his long basketball career and led the wildcats to an ncaa championship in 1985. >> it's 4:39 and new on "action news" family members offer a reward in a search for a teacher who went missing just before the start of the school year. >> south korea and japan respond to the united nations new technological approved sanctions on north korea. david. >> temperatures out there aren't too bad. we're in the 50's and 60's ts morning. there's a lot more cloud cover beginning to sweep up from irma. will we get showers today? that's coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. >> a coast guard rappels down into a cave to make a rescue. you'll see the new video right after the break. >> ♪ >> new video on "action news" showing a coast guard crew rescuing a couple trapped in a cliffside cave in the san francisco bay area. a coast guard swimmer rappeled down into the cave's mouth as huge waves were slamming around him yesterday. he then buckled the young woman in, pulled her to safety, brought her back to the ground, then the rescuer went back to save the young man. the couple appeared to be okay. we do not know what they were doing in the cave. >> boy, were they glad to see him. >> perhaps. [laughter] >> they're safe. >> matthew. >> yeah, we can laugh about it. >> all right. so, we are off to a little cloudier start than yesterday. not quite as chilly as it was yesterday morning which is good. storm tracker6 live double scan shows us that we are mainly dry. a little bit of a sprinkle back in the western part of maryland but it doesn't look like any of that makes it to us today. as we take a look outside, we have sky6 and there's the airport with some of our out of use airplanes parked in in te foreground and it does look dry and nice for flying today. your temperature currently in philadelphia a little better than it was this time yesterday. we're at 62 degrees. some of the suburbs in the 50's. winds out of the west at five, the ocean temperature is 71 and there you see how those clouds as expected are starting to sweep up from the south. the early bands of shower activity from what's left of irma kind of falling apart on the other side of washington. and we do expect some sun today but generally speaking those high clouds continuing to increase as the day continues. 60 degrees by 8 o'clock. and then by 10 o'clock, 68, pretty comfortable. by noon, 76 and it will be warm this afternoon with a 3 o'clock high of 81 degrees before we're back to 77 at 6 o'clock. fair amount of cloud cover, some sun breaking through at times. high temperatures across the region, not a big range once again today, away from the shor close to 80 in allentown, 80 on the nose in reading and wilmington. 79 in trenton. philadelphia, 78n millville. down the shore 72 in cape may, 73 is the boardwalk. there is a high risk of rip currents today down the shore. we've been telling you all week it's just not a good idea to get in the water without the lifeguards. today that definitely applies. phillies and marlins tonight, lots of clouds, 74 for the first pitch, 67 in the ninth inning. i think it will be dry for the game. here's what's left of irma. this is now a tropical depression and it will soon an extra tropical low pressure system center. future tracker6 tomorrow shows you at times there will be a spotty shower. every now and then there could be a brief downpour but these do look brief and spotty. we're still expecting that clockwise loop and by saturday night and sunday night we're looking at a category one hurricane trying to angle its way up toward the east coast. the spaghetti plot models are still all over the place. four of them come into florida. a couple of them go up to bermuda but the bulk of these models do want to bring this in toward the east coast. if i was a betting man, which i'm not, i would say that this goes past us and doesn't make landfall but it's something we'll have to keep our eyes on. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 81 degrees. more clouds, warm today. and then tomorrow, 79 degrees with just a spotty shower at times as you saw. thursday warm more humid, 78, another spotty shower could pop up. and then humid again on friday. once we get that rain band past us tomorrow we do get kind of sticky for several days. friday's high is 78 and there could be some more showers around at times. then for the weekend 80 on saturday. 79 sunday. and each day could feature a shower but i don't think either weekend day is a washout. >> okay. we'll look out for them. thanks, david. the family of a missing high school teacher in maryland is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts. 31-year-old laura wallen was last heard from on monday of last week when police say she sent a text to her family. authorities say wallen who is four months pregnant didn't show up the following day for the first day of school. her car was found on thursday in an apartment complex in neighboring howard county, maryland. >> the un security council unanimously approved new sanctions on north korea but for watered down resolution. it doesn't include an oil import ban or international asset freeze on the government which the trump administration wanted. the resolution does ban north korea from importing natural gas. it comes a week after north korea carried out its sixth nuclear test. south korea and japan are welcoming the new sanctions. senator and former presidential candidate bernie sanders wants to overhaul the american healthcare system and he's getting support from some high profile democrats. new jersey senator cory booker announced yesterday he would co-sponsor a single payer healthcare bill that would guarantee everyone in the country is covered by health insurance. senators elizabeth warren and kamal harris have said they support the bill. sanders plans to unveil the legislation tomorrow. >> hillary clinton discuss bernie sanders and others in her new book that i'll tell you the traffic. looking outside live, this is the schuylkill east of 202. yeah, we still see the construction blocking the left lane but they have been in the process of clearing. i wouldn't be surprised if they move while we speak right here. this should be completely gone within another 15 minutes or so. on the schuylkill expressway here at the blue route, eastbound headed towards gulph mills and you're dealing with some construction here. in lansdale, we've got a water main break on south broad street and it's blocked just south of allentown road so watch for this one. it is closed because of this. so you can stick to valley forge road or church road to get around the alternate there. switching our cameras around here's i-95 near kerlin street in chester county. we saw construction crews and it looks like they're packing up, headed home after blocking the left lane as you head southbound towards the delaware state line. lots of crews have been out there overnight. some of them as you can see kind of in the process of clearing out. how about i-95 northbound between 495 and delaware avenue, construction here blocks the two right lanes. this one will be out here a little longer, probably about 45 minutes or so. also the ramp from i-95 and southbound to 295 is blocked and that lasts until 7 o'clock this morning so you'll be dealing with that one a little longer, too. not a bad traffic day so far but matt it's pretty early. >> yes, it is. thanks karen. happening today, hillary clinton's book "what happened" goes on sale. in it clinton admits to mistakes in her losing campaign for president. she calls her use of a private e-mail server while at the state department dumb. clinton also says her comment about putting coalminers out of business is the mistake she regrets the most. she also blames her loss on donald trump or -- to donald trump on russian hackers, statements made by fbi director james comey at the time and her primary battle and futures are also looking up right now across-the-board. it is getting a lot more expensive if you love guacamole to make guacamole. the wholesale price of avocados is up 125 percent since the beginning of the year. that's according to the american restaurant association. shoppers are paying more at the grocery store as well, about 31 percent more. the average price is now $1.17 per happened early saturday morning at the sycamore grille in newtown. surveillance video shows a woman who is in her 60's smashing a glass on a man's head while he was sitting at the bar. the man was treated for a cut and bruises. >> "action news" spoke with the south jersey man who risked his life to help a police officer struggling with a suspect. 66-year-old john koch ran into op rite in brooklawn last week and that's where he ran into conwell becton and anthony marchione. police say marchione shoplifted and becton was in a getaway car. a police officer chased him down. >> i think the guy was grabbing for his gun. i jumped on top of him and held him down. >> they say becton -- investigators say becton put the car in reverse and almost hit the officer and a shop rite security guard. he then drove the car straight toward koch who ended up on the hood. brooklawn police posted a thank you to koch on their facebook page for his heroic actions and koch says he would do it again. >>
