90 miles per hour wind gusts to miami and enough rain to flood some of the areas' roadways. >> it's just not safe to go outside. you could step in a puddle or step in, you know, a very light patch of water and it could be completely electrified with a live power line and it will kill you. >> reporter: millions are without power and now neighboring states are bracing for the storm. >> stay in place. make sure there's a secure place as much as you can do so and stay off the roads. >> reporter: georgia declaring a state of emergency for all 159 counties. heavy rains expected throughout areas of the state monday including in metro atlanta where many schools and businesses are closed. an in alabama, officials also prepping for the wrath of irma. >> this is an all hands on deck event. >> reporter: hurricane irma spent a record three days as a category five and is the strongest atlantic basin hurricane ever recorded outside of the gulf of mexico and the caribbean sea. we're here in naples where this is what people woke up to. if you look behind me you can see massive amounts of debris and this is actually after a bulldozer cleaned up part of it here. there were two enormous trees in the area. but the mayor says that despite this damage, they're actually incredibly happy that there wasn't more structural damage. reporting from naples, florida, i'm kristen holmes channel6 "action news". >> restoring power for the millions of homes and businesses in the dark. about 200 peco employees and contractor left yesterday. pse&g sent 154 employees. this team is part of an 1800 person crew making their way to the sunshine state. >> irma is now a tropical storm as mentioned moving through florida heading towards georgia. meteorologist, david murphy outside on the terrace with our forecast here, david. >> eventually we get some effects from irma. we have to wait. it won't be until tomorrow or wednesday as we see any of. that improvement with irma. it is no longer a hurricane. it has been downgraded as of 8 o'clock this morning to a tropical storm and you can see that florida so battered and put under the gun really over the last 48 to 72 hours is now clearing the rain pushing off to the north. what you're seeing is an infrared imagery of cloud cover and those reds indicate tall clouds that are capable of producing drenching downpours and that's what we've got now just to the north of charleston and also pushing in through atlanta where there is a tropical storm warning for the first time in atlanta's history, at least since the national weather service has been issuing that sort of thing. around here we have plenty of sunshine, although you can see the first clouds from irma creeping up through richmond, virginia and up towards washington, d.c. later tonight we'll probably see a little bit more of that and by tomorrow, high clouds begin to filter in. doesn't look like we'll see rain from irma, though, until wednesday. ahead of all of that we're looking good today. 72 degrees, low humidity. that's the temperature in philadelphia. 70 up in allentown where we started out rather cool this morning in the 40's for awhile. and then 70 degrees in reading. 74 in millville. 72 in wilmington. 71 currently in trenton and 72 in cape may, new jersey where there are rip currents again in the water thanks to irma and also josé off our southeast coast. and what to expect the rest of the way? we'll see men see plenty of sunshine. i know the model wants to cloud us up a bit. there's the possibility we see some clouds developing as the day goes on but i think it stays fairly bright with a high of 78. what happens tonight. we cool down. by 2:00 a.m. into the 60's and rick and sarah i expect to be in the 50's for tomorrow morning's commute so another chilly start tomorrow. and then we've got some shower activity on wednesday from irma. i'll have more on that coming up in the exclusive accuweather 7-day. for now, today a great day to go out and get a jog or maybe get some stuff done. >> get a jog, what's? okay, thank you. >> jog. >> did he say jog. thank you david. we continue to track the path of irma in our 6abc app. you'll find updates as damage reports come in also photo galleries and videos from locations across florida. the 6abc app is a free download for your mobile device. well today is the 16th anniversary of an american tragedy, 9/11 and throughout the nation services are being held to remember the victims and their families today. in montgomery county this morning students faculty and members of the military came together to honor the victims in a somber ceremony. "action news" reporter katherine scott was there. >> reporter: for many people 9/11 feels like yesterday but many of these students weren't even born yet. still, they took the time this morning to remember. >> ♪ >> reporter: at the ceremony outside western montgomery career and technology center in limerick, they stood in silence. students, faculty, local first responders, military. for some the details of september 11th 2001 are still vivid. >> i remember 9/11 specifically. beautiful day just like today, blue skies and sun. >> reporter: upper perkiomen high school zachary was only one year old when the towers fell. he's a protective services student here and wants to serve in the army. he doesn't have his own memories of 9/11 but for him that does not diminish its significance. >> i think that it was important to show that 9/11 was history but we haven't forgotten about it. it affects our lives daily. it affects lives all around the world daily. >> reporter: protected services is one of 18 programs at the center where students get hands on experience in chosen career paths. many students in the protected services program go on to join the military or become local first responders. >> many of them were not born or they were very, very young. it's history to them. but it's important that they participate and understand. >> they're heading into that field and they're the ones in run to the fires or run to the emergency when people are running away. so i think it's really important that they have this opportunity to learn about it. >> reporter: the events of that day reaffirm his commitment to help and protect others. >> it makes me want to even more to know that i'd be out there protecting my country and the people i love. >> reporter: this is the third year the school has held this ceremony and they plan to continue the tradition next year. in limerick, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> today marks 16 years since the september 11th attacks. remembrances in philadelphia started with a procession from the fireman's hall museum this morning. >> ♪ >> we move. mayor jim kenney and fire conditioner adam neal were among those who attended a memorial at the betsy ross house. a bell ringing ceremony honored those killed on september 11th 2001. >> several cannon blasts and bells ringing honored the fallen during 9/11 ceremonies in atlantic city this morning. mayor don guardian was that joined by members of the military, police and firefighters as well as those who lost loved ones in the attacks for this memorial service by the ocean. in bucks county, hundreds of american flags are now in place in the front lawn of the heart filled fire company. they're holding a memorial ceremony tonight at sundown. each flag represents the 343 new york city firefighters and 27 new york and new jersey port authority officers plus 23 new york police officers who died on september 11th. tonight's ceremony at the fire company is set to begin at 7 o'clock. >> well, on the 16th anniversary of 9/11 president trump 11 president trump started off his day with a moment of silence. from there he traveled to the pentagon. emily rau has more. >> reporter: as the bell tolled in shanksville pennsylvania once for each person who died on flight 93 president trump spoke to a crowd of families and employees at the pentagon. >> here on the west side of the pentagon terrorists tried to break our resolve. not going to happen. but where they left a mark with fire and rubble, americans defiantly raised the stars and stripessism the president and first lady melania beginning the day on the south lawn of the white house with a moment of silence at 8:45 app, the time the first plane hit the world trade center and at ground zero relatives of the nearly 3,000 people killed on 9/11 began the annual reading of the names of their loved ones. >> my uncle, rescue and firefighter girard terrence nevins. we love you and we miss you every day. >> i wish more than anything that i could have met you. >> reporter: the ceremonies marking 16 years since those four highjacked planes hit the world trade center. the pentagon and a pennsylvania and a pennsylvania field on september 11th 2001. the first time president trump is observing the day as president. >> on that day not only did the world change but we all changed. our eyes were opened. >> reporter: president trump began his remarks by talking about the hurricane situation, the very latest with irma and harvey. he said what americans face hard ships we emerge stronger than ever. emily rau, washington. >> a day of remembrance in delaware today. the action cam was in wilmington this morning for a tribute at the headquarters of csc. 16 years ago that company had offices on the 87th floor of the south tower of the world trade center. every employee at work that day was able to work together and escape the building before the towers came down. today the company unveiled a statue called the delaware route honoring their teamwork, courage and leadership. >> there is much more ahead on "action news" at 12:30. the eagles start off the season with a big win. we'll hear from head when "action news" comes right back. >> a man shot overnight in philadelphia remains in stable condition. police responded to the scene quickly because they happened to be right nearby when this happened. it was around 12:30 a.m. at 12th street and west susquehanna avenue in north philadelphia. officers said they pulled over a car they saw leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. the driver said he was not involved. police were still questioning him. the victim wall shot in the back. he remains at temple university hospital. recovering from minor injuries suffered during a fire in south philadelphia. it broke out late yesterday afternoon on the 2200 block of christian street. fire was showing from the three story row home when firefighters arrived. it's still unclear what sparked the blaze. >> more than 2,000 healthcare leaders from around the world are in philadelphia today. mayor jim kenney was on hand here at city hall to welcome them as part of the international city and urban regional collective tour. the tour is designed to create conversation between health leaders around the globe globe and improve mental health services. their stop in philadelphia includes a stop. >> eagles pulled out a big win over washington. they won 30 to 17 snapping that five game losing streak to washington. a lot of fans were pleased with carson wentz's performance under pressure. a shorttime ago coach doug pederson asked about the eagles' next opponent. they are heading to kansas city. >> it will be fun to see them there, big red on the other side. but at the same time i know that he wants to kick my tail and i want to kick his and listen andy reid teams are well prepared as we know and, you know, we got to do the same thing this week. we just got to be ultra prepared. that's a tough place to play now. >> cornerback ronald darby was injured early in the game yesterday. today pederson would not comment on the injury. he said he needs to get more information from team doctors. >> well, the chamber orchestra of philadelphia is getting ready to kick off a brand new season one that will explore the connection between classical music and jazz. meteorologist, david the area has been devastated. boats were seen on the roads and cars found buried under sand. there's debris everywhere. one man who chose not to leave his home in key largo recorded irma as it moved in. he watched as his property was surrounded by the storm surge. the french army is busy providing relief for irma victims in the caribbean. they were seen unloading supplies today here in saint martin. irma has caused an estimated $1.4 billion of damage in the french portion of saint martin and st. barts that includes damages to homes, vehicles and businesses. also operating losses. the island of saint martin is home to about 72,000 people. >> meteorologist dave murphy back now with a closer look at what could be some soggy conditions thanks to irma. >> yeah, little shower is possible especially on wednesday and then some pop-ups after that. storm tracker6 live double scan today, however, shows -- shows you that we are dry. we have plenty of sunshine across the region and that would include down the shore where it's a great day on the beach but not such a great day in the water as we have a moderate risk of rip currents because of irma and also josé that's off the coast well down to our south and east. 72 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia. winds are calm right now. really a pleasant day to go outside get some yard work done or if you have an outdoor job this afternoon you have a good day for that. satellite showing you the cloud cover spinning off the top of what's left of irma. this is coming up towards washington, d.c. it will make a bit of a run at us tonight but i think tomorrow is the day where we'll see an increase in the high cloud cover and then the showers you see starting to creep up into southern virginia over the next couple of hours probably hold off until either later tomorrow night or off and on through the day on wednesday. just showers out of that, not a big deal. mostly sunny today and pleasant, 78 in allentown. 79 in reading. 76 degrees in trenton and wilmington. 78 is your high in philadelphia. 77 in millville and down the shore low 70's on the beach. you can see a few people taking advantage. ocean water temperatures on or about 70 but again be careful of those rip currents. no lifeguards anymore down in most of our coastal communities and that makes it pretty rough for swimmers down there today. 76 by 2 o'clock. 78 is your high at 3 o'clock and we'll probably still be sitting on that at about 4:00 and then by 8 o'clock we're into the low 70's and by 10 o'clock, 66. i do expect temperatures to dip into the 50's during the overnight hours. hurricane irma is now a tropical storm. that happened at 8 o'clock this morning and you can see that the cloud cover highlighted with infrared imagery here, this red stuff in particular is where the heavy rain bands are located is pushing up out of florida in through atlanta georgia cutting up into tennessee over to south and north carolina, a little bit of that spilling to the west in parts of alabama. irma will maintain tropical storm status probably for the rest of today and then at some point later tonight into tomorrow morning we do expect it to drop down into just an extra tropical low and then kind of fall apart as it gets in the neighborhood of memphis, tennessee. and watches and warnings again are really starting to expire in the southern half of florida, so an indication of how things are getting better and these are all tropical storm warnings now, no more hurricane warnings obviously with the storm falling apart. hurricane josé has not fallen apart. it's still a category two well away from the turks and caicos. they need another hurricane like a hole in the head, right. does look like this will do a loop and spin back down by thursday morning as a category one closer to the turks and caicos and then the most likely track would take this more or less in the direction of the northern bahamas and perhaps the southeastern u.s. most of our computer models are suggesting that there is a after that loop a turn to the north, though, a couple of them have them going in toward miami. that would not be great but that's an out liar and there's other outliars that take it towards bermuda. most want to take it towards the east coast of the united states and hopefully just off the coast. there are a couple of them long range that are suggesting maybe there's something closer to home in the middle of next week. we'll keep our eyes on it. hopefully that doesn't happen. mostly sunny and nice today, 78. 80 tomorrow, still on the bright side but those high milky clouds will be digging in during the day, a high of 80 tomorrow. wednesday that's the day when we think irma's spotty showers start to come through, a high of 76 and at times it will be damp from those showers. warm and humid thursday, friday, and saturday. thursday's high is 80, friday's high is 80. all three days there could be a spotty shower around but not a washout and then partly sunny on sunday. >> okay, david, thank you again. >> thanks, david. >> topping our people scene this afternoon, actress kristen bell is doing what she can to help hurricane irma evacuees. she performed for children staying at a shelter in orlando over the weekend. >> ♪ that's the song for the first time from the movie "frozen." bell was in orlando to film a movie and wasn't able to evacuate. the actress told the crowd i hope some of these songs are running through your head the rest of the day and will take your mind off of pennsylvania field on september 11th 2001. the first time president trump is observing the day as president. >> on that day not only did the world change but we all changed. our eyes were opened. >> reporter: president trump began his remarks by talking about the hurricane situation, the very latest with irma and harvey. he said what americans face hard ships we emerge stronger than ever. emily rau, washington. >> a day of remembrance in delaware today. the action cam was in wilmington this morning for a tribute at the headquarters of csc. 16 years ago that company had offices on the 87th floor of the south tower of the world trade center. every employee at work that day was able to work together and escape the building before the towers came down. today the company unveiled a statue called the delaware route honoring their teamwork, courage and leadership. >> there is much more ahead on "action news" at 12:30. the eagles start off the season with a big win. we'll hear from head when "action news" comes right back. >> a man shot overnight in philadelphia remains in stable condition. police responded to the scene quickly because they happened to be right nearby when this happened. it was around 12:30 a.m. at 12th street and west susquehanna avenue in north philadelphia. officers said they pulled over a car they saw leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. the driver said he was not involved. police were still questioning him. the victim wall shot in the back. he remains at temple university hospital. recovering from minor injuries suffered during a fire in south philadelphia. it broke out late yesterday afternoon on the 2200 block of christian street. fire was showing from the three story row home when firefighters arrived. it's still unclear what sparked the blaze. >> more than 2,000 healthcare leaders from around the world are in philadelphia today. mayor jim kenney was on hand here at city hall to welcome them as part of the international city and urban regional collective tour. the tour is designed to create conversation between health leaders around the globe globe and improve mental health services. their stop in philadelphia includes a stop. >> eagles pulled out a big win over washington. they won 30 to 17 snapping that five game losing streak to washington. a lot of fans were pleased with carson wentz's performance under pressure. a shorttime ago coach doug pederson asked about the eagles' next opponent. they are heading to kansas city. >> it will be fun to see them there, big red on the other side. but at the same time i know that he wants to kick my tail and i want to kick his and listen andy reid teams are well prepared as we know and, you know, we got to do the same thing this week. we just got to be ultra prepared. that's a tough place to play now. >> cornerback ronald darby was injured early in the game yesterday. today pederson would not comment on the injury. he said he needs to get more information from team doctors. >> well, the chamber orchestra of philadelphia is getting ready to kick off a brand new season one that will explore the connection between classical music and jazz. meteorologist, david >> the program is a mixture of beloved works, beloved classics. >> reporter: it spotlights a norwegian trumpet player tina. >> she played last week at the kimmel center to a sold out audience and they she brought the house down. >> reporter: world premiere by elliott golden thaw. >> he has performed batman and robin he won a category award for freda. >> reporter: the concert will serve as a taste the area has been devastated. boats were seen on the roads and cars found buried under sand. there's debris everywhere. one man who chose not to leave his home in key largo recorded irma as it moved in. he watched as his property was surrounded by the storm surge. the french army is busy providing relief for irma victims in the caribbean. they were seen unloading supplies today here in saint martin. irma has caused an estimated $1.4 billion of damage in the french portion of saint martin and st. barts that includes damages to homes, vehicles and businesses. also operating losses. the island of saint martin is home to about 72,000 people. >> meteorologist dave murphy back now with a closer look at what could be some soggy conditions thanks to irma. >> yeah, little shower is possible especially on wednesday and then some pop-ups after that. storm tracker6 live double scan today, however, shows -- shows you that we are dry. we have plenty of sunshine across the region and that would include down the shore where it's a great day on the beach but not such a great day in the water as we have a moderate risk of rip currents because of irma and also josé that's off the coast well down to our south and east. 72 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia. winds are calm right now. really a pleasant day to go outside get some yard work done or if you have an outdoor job this afternoon you have a good day for that. satellite showing you the cloud cover spinning off the top of what's left of irma. this is coming up towards washington, d.c. it will make a bit of a run at us tonight but i think tomorrow is the day where we'll see an increase in the high cloud cover and then the showers you see starting to creep up into southern virginia over the next couple of hours probably hold off until either later tomorrow night or off and on through the day on wednesday. just showers out of that, not a big deal. mostly sunny today and pleasant, 78 in allentown. 79 in reading. 76 degrees in trenton and wilmington. 78 is your high in philadelphia. 77 in millville and down the shore low 70's on the beach. you can see a few people taking advantage. ocean water temperatures on or about 70 but again be careful of those rip currents. no lifeguards anymore down in most of our coastal communities and that makes it pretty rough for swimmers down there today. 76 by 2 o'clock. 78 is your high at 3 o'clock and we'll probably still be sitting on that at about 4:00 and then by 8 o'clock we're into the low 70's and by 10 o'clock, 66. i do expect temperatures to dip into the 50's during the overnight hours. hurricane irma is now a tropical storm. that happened at 8 o'clock this morning and you can see that the cloud cover highlighted with infrared imagery here, this red stuff in particular is where the heavy rain bands are located is pushing up out of florida in through atlanta georgia cutting up into tennessee over to south and north carolina, a little bit of that spilling to the west in parts of alabama. irma will maintain tropical storm status probably for the rest of today and then at some point later tonight into tomorrow morning we do expect it to drop down into just an extra tropical low and then kind of fall apart as it gets in the neighborhood of memphis, tennessee. and watches and warnings again are really starting to expire in the southern half of florida, so an indication of how things are getting better and these are all tropical storm warnings now, no more hurricane warnings obviously with the storm falling apart. hurricane josé has not fallen apart. it's still a category two well away from the turks and caicos. they need another hurricane like a hole in the head, right. does look like this will do a loop and spin back down by thursday morning as a category one closer to the turks and caicos and then the most likely track would take this more or less in the direction of the northern bahamas and perhaps the southeastern u.s. most of our computer models are suggesting that there is a after that loop a turn to the north, though, a couple of them have them going in toward miami. that would not be great but that's an out liar and there's other outliars that take it towards bermuda. most want to take it towards the east coast of the united states and hopefully just off the coast. there are a couple of them long range that are suggesting maybe there's something closer to home in the middle of next week. we'll keep our eyes on it. hopefully that doesn't happen. mostly sunny and nice today, 78. 80 tomorrow, still on the bright side but those high milky clouds will be digging in during the day, a high of 80 tomorrow. wednesday that's the day when we think irma's spotty showers start to come through, a high of 76 and at times it will be damp from those showers. warm and humid thursday, friday, and saturday. thursday's high is 80, friday's high is 80. all three days there could be a spotty shower around but not a washout and then partly sunny on sunday. >> okay, david, thank you again. >> thanks, david. >> topping our people scene this afternoon, actress kristen bell is doing what she can to help hurricane irma evacuees. she performed for children staying at a shelter in orlando over the weekend. >> ♪ that's the song for the first time from the movie "frozen." bell was in orlando to film a movie and wasn't able to evacuate. the actress told the crowd i hope some of these songs are running through your head the rest of the day and will take your mind off of
