And karen rogers for weather and traffic. No umbrella on the terrace right now. As we take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan we are getting ready for rain. It will probably be steadier down in south jersey and delaware than it will be in philadelphia overall but at times roads will be wet in the city and that stuff kind of trying to inch up toward philadelphia right now. You can see that on the wide satellite view. It does look like well get something during the morning commute and were already getting it in a good portion of delaware and south jersey. As we take a look, area of low pressure coming up the coast possibly becoming a a Tropical Storm briefly. It will be far enough away from us to prevent major problems. For the second straight day looking at a high risk of rip currents at the shore not that its going to be a great day on the beach anyway. Theres a high wind advisory in Cape May County and down through southern delaware and on into the Eastern Shore of maryland and points south again because of that coastal low. 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour wind gusts building after about lunchtime. 66 degrees right now in philadelphia. Upper 50s in allentown and reading. Mid 60s in millville and wilmington and 68 currently in cape may. Your forward forecast from accuweather, well, it is going to be cool this afternoon. Were going to go for a high of 70, models have been popping 68s and 69s in there and of course it will be cloudy all the way with those showers at times in the i95 corridor and steady rain at times down to the south. As we go into tomorrow morning, its more of the same in a way. Were going to be cool and cloudy although tomorrow overall looks like a day of improvement. Ill have more on that and the latest stats on harvey. Its all coming up in that exclusive accuweather 7day, karen. Im really missing summer. Thats how i feel about the forecast today. Looking live on the schuylkill expressway, moving okay. Overnight construction is out of here. Looking live here approaching belmont thats your westbound traffic heading towards king of prussia. A little building volume but no major delay yet and looking at the big picture still seeing the green traffic flow blue route schuylkill i95 speeds mostly in the 50s at this point not moving too badly. Live look at 95 approaching cottman thats southbound traffic headed towards center city. Currently dry. Were seeing that rain pull up from the south and west so youre going to get wet on i95 but not happening just yet here approaching cottman. We have construction crews, theyre out there on the blue route from 9 00 until 3 00 today southbound between broomall and springfield. Watch for them doing some tree removal and theyre going to be blocking at least one lane, the right lane scheduled to be blocked so that will create delays starting just at the end of the morning rush at 9 oclock. Lets hop in new jersey and see whats happening on 42. Not much if youre coming up from deptford or turnersville, looking good so far, matt and jeanette. Thanks so much karen. The rain continues to fall on the houston area and throughout the night there have been scenes playing out like this one. Volunteers continue to rescue people using dump trucks and boats to get to the people stick in flooded neighborhoods all over the city. Houstons Convention Center is at capacity but will not turn people away. As of early this morning there are more than 7,000 people taking shelter there. Six people have died as a result of the storm. Officials in houston say there have been 4,000 water related rescues over just the past 24 hours. The coast guard says it has rescued another 3,000 people by boat and air. We saw dramatic views of helicopters coming to peoples aid as they stood on their rooftops surrounded by water on all sides. Unbelievable. Its just unbelievable. Cant believe it. We never experienced anything like this. We just got rescued out so this is the first time we even seen how much how much water it has been so its crazy. Officials are estimating that when the rain finally stops falling, more than 30,000 people will have been displaced. President trump has promised federal aid and will travel to parts of texas today to tour the damage and meet with local officials. The philadelphia area continues to reach out to the victims of harveys devastation. Two more local red cross workers leave this morning. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is live in center city. Katherine, more help headed that way. Reporter thats absolutely right, jeanette and matt. Two trained red cross workers will be heading down from this chapter today. Theyve already sent 10 from this chapter and theyre expecting to send more in the coming weeks because theres a lot of help needed down there. Meanwhile inside the philadelphia headquarters at 23rd and chestnut the National Call center has been busy with volunteers handling more than 13,000 calls from victims in texas since the center was activated last week. Today the two trained American Red Cross volunteers from the eastern pennsylvania chapter will leave in an Emergency Response vehicle and head for a staging area in louisiana before being assigned to an affected area. The Salvation Army of eastern pennsylvania and delaware is also planning for deployment to texas with volunteers planning to leave tomorrow to provide emotional and spiritual support. Meanwhile there are also efforts under way to help storm affected animals. Saint Huberts Animal Welfare Center mobilized its sister shelter transport program. This morning theyll welcome at least 100 shelter dogs from texas to their madison, new jersey, campus. After the dogs eat and rest, many of the animals will be transferred to partners along the northeast corridor including shelters in our area and this helps provide capacity for animals displaced by the storm. Again, those animals are expected to arrive in Morris County later on this morning. Were live in center city, Katherine Scott, channel6 action news. Katherine, thank you. Young and old people are doing what they can to help including a fiveyearold jett sporting his superman cape and texans hat. Jett is raising money for the red cross. He is originally from houston but now lives in philadelphia. He set up a Lemonade Stand in olde city yesterday and all of the money he raises is going to the red cross. Action News Reporter chad pradelli is headed to the flood zone soon. His live reports for action news begin this afternoon. Even as the rain continues to fall over the houston area, theres chad right there, hes heading down to the flood zone. Even as the rain continues to fall over the houston area, estimates are already coming in as to how expensive this storm might turn out to be. Its staggering. Maribel aber is live in new york with our market watch report. Good morning, maribel. Reporter hey, good morning, matt. Hurricane harvey has knocked out a vital part of the u. S. Economy. The houston region accounts for about 2. 4 percent of the nations economy. Its also one of the biggest hubs of Oil Refineries and the number two shipping port. The storm came just as the area was recovering from the crash in oil prices. Moodys estimates harvey will result in 4 million in Property Damage and 7 billion no lost economic output. Stocks were little changed yesterday as investors gauge the impact of Tropical Storm harvey on Energy Companies and insurers. Looks like futures are lower as investors are rattled after north korea fired a missile over japan. Reports on home prices and Consumer Confidence are due out later today. So well watch the markets. Jeanette. Thank you maribel. Tropical storm harvey continues to drench texas, Tropical Cyclone 10 is turning up surf along the new jersey coast. Lifeguards along the jersey shore say conditions are dangerous and theyre telling people to stay out of the water until further notice. And more warnings about what that storm could mean for people around here david. Yeah, lets talk about all of that. Right now it means rain down the shore. You can see some bands of rain that are popping in from the south and pushing up towards philadelphia. It looks like the city itself might get a little bit damp and every now and then theres some steady rain down south today in parts of south jersey and delaware. Youll kind of be in and out of that. As we take a look outside, we have sky6, cloudy skies and advance of rain over the ben franklin bridge and its also a bit on the cool side this morning and staying that way today. In allentown, just 59 degrees, in reading were at 61. Philadelphia and wilmington, its 66. Same thing in millville and dover. And were currently at 68 at the airport in a. C. And down in cape may. Potential Tropical Storm irma, which is the way the National Hurricane center has been referring to this storm, is still an area of low pressure right now, kind of hugging the coast between the carolinas but it does look like it does have the chance of briefly becoming a Tropical Storm as it gets off the coast of norfolk and then back to at a low pressure center. Either way, its going to have the same impact on us as it pushes some rain and some swells and a little bit of wind in on our coastline. Future tracker6 handles the rain story. You can see between now up until about noon steady rain cells at times down in south jersey, mainly just light nuisance rain up in philadelphia. Enough to get get the roads wet. By 6 oclock more of the south, steady rain down south. Were in the process of drying out in philadelphia but it will still be somewhat wet down by the coast until sometime after midnight. Down the shore other issues. Winds gusting off the ocean 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour especially down in Cape May County and delaware and there is a wind advisory there, kicks in at noon and goes until midnight. Then the waves are going to be high and theres a high risk of rip currents down the shore and heavy surf so not a great day on the beach weatherwise anyway but you dont want to be going into the water. In the lehigh valley, cloudy skies and cool today, 68 degrees. In philadelphia, cloudy skies, rainy at times, 70. Notice how i didnt post rain in the lehigh valley. You may be a little too far up north to get very much of that. And at the ball game tonight there could be a delay. It could be a little damp but as you saw its mostly nuisance rain in philadelphia and the i95 corridor so id say theres a chance you play. You want to check out action news tonight for the latest. First pitch 67, ninth inning 66. 62 is your overnight low. Rain will end overnight across the region. As we take a look at harvey still a Tropical Storm. Still out over the water. Still taking that track up north. Even farther to the east now and it does look like by about friday it will be up around memphis and by sunday up in cincinnati, really falling apart. In terms of rainfall amounts it looks like houston is in for another three and a half inches of rain but the focus today is going to be in northern louisiana. Your exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, todays high is 70. Cloudy skies, rain at times, steady rain the farther south you go towards the shore. Clouds will break tomorrow and the afternoon looks great 78 and then 85 degrees on thursday with sin and clouds, warmer obviously and a front brings the chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm. Then on friday, were back to really nice weather, sunshine for the most part, breezy, cooler and for the Holiday Weekend saturday looking great. Partly sunny and 76. 78 sunday with a late day thunderstorm and perhaps an uptick in humidity and labor day warm and humid a high of 83 and some spotty showers and storms there, too. Those warm days are kind of dwindling. They are dwindling, arent they, yeah, big changes. Shaken by murder in a Public Library. [laughter] things are not just going downhill for matt because the rest of us have a wet kind of miserable day ahead. Were looking live at 422. Hey, at least your morning commute many of the roads are still dry. It hasnt hit us here on 422 yet. Thats your eastbound traffic. You can see we have some building volume as you head towards king of prussia. God bless you over there. But were moving okay with no major delay at least on 422. On 422 eastbound though from 9 00 until 3 00 today well see restrictions here between 29 and royersford. Theyre blocking the left lane. Theyre doing some guardrail repair and you know how that really messes you up. For now youre looking okay on 422. Made in america, there are seven different phases of road closures so were in it now. Two lanes of eakins oval are blocked Spring Garden street is shut down. You cant park on pennsylvania avenue or park town place so lots of issues and the big concert as they continue to do all that setup it may cause you a headache or two leading up to it. Here are your travel times. Weve got green traffic flow. Still looking okay here, 95, the schuylkill, 42, no major problems on any of them. Storm tracker6 live double scan showing the rain is really starting to move in, though. Weve been watching this get closer to the city so now its through most of south jersey and delaware and lancaster. Youre still relatively dry in the city itself but its coming up from the south and west where an area of low pressure is kind of skirting us off the shore so periods of rain today. Much of the day youre just going to be in the 60s. A high today of 70 jeanette. Okay, thank you, karen for the update.
