temperatures in the 90s, heat wave number three so far we have 21 days of temperatures in the 90s, right now 91 in philadelphia 90 in wilmington and millville. 84 in allentown, you have to go to the police. meantime a south jersey man is talking about a story of survival after falling off his fishing boat and treading water for four hours. damion sexton was rescued off the coast of cape may. john rawlins joins us live now from pomona. >> reporter: hi rick, it's an incredible story this started out as an overnight fishing trip for a man from williamstown and ended with a major assist from the coast guard. >> damion sexton and his wife robin and two sons today glad to be alive he fought for four hours to stay that way. 10:00 he was swept overboard in the dark atlantic 10 miles from cape may he fell from his fishing boat the sea robin that roared away from him at 25 miles per hour. >> the boat deputy stop because he didn't know how to stop it he. >> he is a friend michael, he managed to make a critical may day call. >> and sexton goes into survival mode it's miles away before it slows and stops. >> i'm thinking i could die it would be easy to die if i don't give 110% the may day brings a chopper and boat from the coast guard and a freighter to assist. sexton is a tiny needle in a large haystack, amazingly after miles of swimming and drifting in the dark the coast guard finds sexton and makes contact. >> he hears me scream and throws me a life jacket and the rope was under the water and i felt the rope and grabbed the rope, sexton makes it to his boat but he is not well, hyperthermia is taking hold but it's decided he must be brought out by chopper. >> we knew he had been in the water for a significant amount of time and that his chance of survival was decreasing. >> he is brought out in this amazing lift and taken to the hospital asked why he was not wearing a life jacket on a dark tossing sea. >> because i'm an idiot i will never do that again. >> a blunt assessment to stay the least the next order of business is to buy state of the art life vests and equip his boat with them and to use them. eagles fans got their first look at the birds today, training camp is open to the public wearing their green and white proudly, hundreds filled lincoln financial field excited for the new players on the team speblly demarco murray and the fans are eastbound in buck county this evening, rick and monica the delay stretches for miles and they continue to spray water on the smoldering cardboard between willow grove and bensalem going on six hours later now and some drivers are stuck here the whole time. the truck is moving along in the eastbound left lane and the turnpike is still closed and causing a massive backlog that continues to get longer, the eastbound side jammed solid plymouth meeting, that is miles of single digit speeds. you can get creative. use the back roads like 63 and ridge pike, don't go for the schuylkill stay local as you travel this afternoon but for a while avoid the eastbound side of the pennsylvania tun pike. and avoid a crash on the bridge including 95 jammed northbound from the airport to the new construction pattern at girard avenue, and a crash on the schuylkill westbound near the vine, it's a mess, we'll check it again in the next half our. >> okay. maybe we won't. thanks matt. much more to the family of sandra bland is filing a lawsuit against the trooper that arrested her. she was found dead in her jail cell three days after her controversial arrest. there is more the family doesn't know about the circumstances around her death. authorities say her death was the result of suicide by hanging. but loved ones say she was looking forward to a new job and would not have taken her life. they are not sure why a circus operator allowed the show to go on during a storm the winds of 60 miles per hour collapsed the tent killing two and sends 30 others to the hospital. the two people killed were a father and daughter and the fire marshall says it's the responsibility of the show to monitor the weather conditions. health check tonight seven people have now died from the outbreak of legionaires disease in new york, officials say they are confident that they found the culprit. health reporter and registered nurse, ali gorman joins us now. >> they expect to find more cases pop up and legionaires disease a severe case of pneumonia, now there are more than 80 cases tied to this outbreak. the mayor urged anyone with symptoms to seek medical treatment and reiterated the illness cannot be spread from person to person and drinking water is safe. mayor deblasio says that they are confident that the five cooling towers that were disinfected were the only sites responsible for the outbreak. slowser to home we see west nile virus they are reporting their first human case this year a 60-year-old man in belmar, new jersey he is treated and released from the hospital, and it is spread through infected mosquitos and it cause fever and headaches and body aches and in severe cases neurological problems. people over the able of 50 are most at risk. wear insect repellant, outside at dusk or dawn and get rid of standing water by your home. and we have the top diet mistakes that people make. the most common thing they see is people not eating enough or eating the wrong foods some people think if they skip meals that will lead to weight loss but that backfires and you will be more likely to binge eat and eat more calories and you want to be picky where your calories are here in southhampton the road closed six hours ago after it collided with a car matt pellman is tracking it in the center and a big mess for commuters trying to get home tonight, now for the forecast it hit 90 at philadelphia international airport, and that means that the heat wave continues as we look live at sky 6 hd at the beaches of atlantic city, we toughed it out for more than a week now the relief from the heat is around the corner, adam joseph is at the big board. finally more of that adam. >> yes it's time to break the heat wave it's possible into the middle of the week, so far 91 degrees in philadelphia and in fact, three times in the eight days the highest temperature is 93 degrees, a couple of degrees shy of the highest so far during this actual heat wave. 21 days so far this year that we have seen the thermometer hit 90 degrees or above in philadelphia is it stayed in the 80s north and wet and better from lancaster and reading into the lehigh valley season to the south 90 for millville and not much of a break from the shore with more of a land breeze through the afternoon and it's humid to the south and that is why we have higher heat indexes from cape may to dover it only feels like the 80s to the north of philadelphia and philadelphia international airport itself, the heat index is the same as the air temperatures we are watching downpours and thunderstorms popping in virginia, and also maryland these are moving to the east and this cluster of storms slide south of sussex county and west of washington, coming up in the accuweather forecast, of finding a gunman that shot two people outside of a hip hop county in monmouth county it happened outside of pnc art center in holmdel. shots rang out after the show and gun fire erupts after an argument in the parking lot. >> we hear pop pop pop. and my daughter looks at me and is like what is that and i'm like just firecracker and i turn over my shoulder and see the guy with the gun and the muzzle flashed and we ran. >> police say the victims are in critical condition and the suspects were seen running into the woods. police in bethlehem pennsylvania plan to tighten their security at this year's musikfest, more lights will be put up on main street as well after a number of serious incidents last year. including two shootings near festival grounds, two people were arrested last year mostly for public intoxication musikfest starts on friday and runs through the 16th of this month, including seinfeld and zz top and darius rucker. 6 abc is the sponsor of musikfest for the tenth time this year. police are looking for a man that started a fight outside of a nightclub this happened last tuesday on the 1600 block of south christopher boulevard the suspect got into an argument with a man and started punching him and the suspect then punched him too, leaving him uncomfortable, the suspect then left in a taxi. take a good look at the video there, if you know who this suspect is please call police. we are hearing from the mother a 10-year-old boy shot over the weekend in chester, it happened on saturday afternoon near the intersection of west 9th street and engel street, the boy, tony campbell was not the intended target. the family sells "action news" he was taken to crozier hospital and was released the next day. >> there were complications and now he is in dupont hospital. this evening the boy's mother is angry about why he was released from the hospital the day after getting shot. >> crozier should have never discharged him. why did they discharge a 10-year-old kid that was shot in the stomach. >> religious persecution is the topic in center city and more on that coming up in just a bit. the religious persecution of people was the big topic in center city. the knights of columbus hosted iraq and syria archbishops. vernon odom has the details now. >> reporter: the knights of columbus opened their national convention today weeks before the pope comes to philadelphia their focus is on the flight of christians on mass in the middle east. the knights of columbus is raising millions in aid for the christians suffering at the hands of islamic fundamentalist fundamentalists. >> the terrible microcosm is happening in iraq and syria where christians are murdered and enslaved and different from their homes in astounding numbers. major figures in christian sects that date back to the 15th century. >> we have seen people killed -- slaughtered -- women violated -- cannot -- houses destructed and churches invaded during the history the the blessing of the pope. from our delaware newsroom governor jack markell signed two bills to redraw district lines to better serve wilmington high needs students, they have advocated for these laws, part of the laws are challenges in the schools, current and retired teachers, and parents worked on the plan trying to address the district lines drawn 30 years ago about the desegregation of city schools. the withdrawing will remove the christina school district from the city and help more families fully participate in their children's education and if we are successful we'll see the long overdue plan of busing children far from think homes. >> it then goes to the general assembly and the governor for final approval. at the "action news" big board president obama's mission to end veteran homelessness across the country veterans shared their struggle with not having a stable place to live and shared a hopeful message of hope. this man, charles bove served 20 years in the army and ended up in philadelphia he lost his job and wife which sent him into a downward spiral eventually landing him on the street and it wasn't until he went to a va hospital until someone offered him help. it was hard to accept the help at first but it was something he needed to survive. >> sometimes we have denial and shyness and don't want to talk and once you get over that denial and accept it you can move forward. >> well the army vet said he wanted to share his story in the hope of helping other veterans that are hopeless as well. today city leaders also shared their progress on the so-called 20 cities initiative, the initiative has helped to find homes for 10,000 homeless veterans worldwide. >> all right a wonderful goal. time for an update on the roads and the nasty situation trapped here on the eastbound side for six hours stuck in the backlog from this tractor trailer fire we still have smoldering cardboard on the roadway six hours later luckily now we have the stuck traffic through, through willow grove and bensalem the eastbound turnpike remains shut down at bensalem, local roads are around and the roads are a mess. my twitter follower joanne says that street road is a mess because of turnpike accidents. if you come eastbound on the turnpike bail by plymouth meeting in mid county, use local roads like 63 and 73 and skippack pike and german town pike i not much of a sea breeze at the shore upper 80s now and at 90 or above most of the day on the sand from avalon to beach haven and the same for the beaches in delaware, 90 wilmington and 90 in millville, better north and west of the lehigh valley upper r this afternoon. can you see a void in activity in the mid-atlantic but in the last few hours some showers and thunderstorms popping between washington and richmond we'll watch those as they drift to the east throughout the evening and early overnight hours most of us, philadelphia, trenton and wilmington all points north and west warm and comfy tonight and developing for our southern areas, 60 to 70 degrees, the humidity is really going to drop, the dew points are in the 40s and 50s, that is pleasant air for the summer season we are back into the 60s and turning more humid into friday and the upcoming weekend, high pressure is in control and northwesterly wind. and close to 90 shy of the area breaking the heat wave, on thursday sun in the morning and clouds in the afternoon to bring rain by night fall with a temperature of 82 degrees, down the shore tomorrow upper 80s, again that land breeze with the ocean a little
