well, with their winning streak at seven, those surging mets wasted little time down in tampa tonight, looking to make it eight against the rays. top one we go on just the second pitch of the game, curtis granderson at the plate, unloads on the rookie saying bye-bye, so long are, farewell, number 18 on the season for curtis, makes it quickly 1-0. then following a daniel murphy double and a access cespedes single, it's to no avail with murphy scoring followed by owe mis, a double making it 3-0, mets. but this was going to be a wild first inning. bottom one, following a leadoff double from gray sew, grady size more tees off on sunday guard. 3-2. then still in the first, bases loaded, two out, it's kevin -- [inaudible] at the plate stroking a single over the head of kelly johnson playing second. that sends in a pair of runners and will put the rays on top by a score of of 4-3. curtis granderson, who led the game off with his 18th bomb of the season says why not again? his second bomb in two innings, 19 on season, curtis pulls the mets each at 4. now get a lot load of this, bottom of four, evan longoria hits what should have been a routine out, but tejada had trouble getting a grip on the ball. with the runner scoring, that was your game-winning run, 5-4, rays, the final. mets win streak ends at seven, and with nationals winning tonight, the mets' lead is cut to just a game and a half. all right, what do you say we now head up to the bronx where this afternoon the second place blue jays continued to keep the heat on your first place yanks. yanks were hoping to bounce back from last night's tough 2-1 loss, and through five innings nova on the hill looking pretty darn good, keeping the power-hitting jays in check allowing them just two hits in what was a scoreless game to that point. but then in the sixth after a walk, a single and another walk, loaded the bases, nova had 101 pitches, gets smoked by justin smoke. bye-bye, so long and, yes, farewell. a grand slam bomb gave the jays a 4-0 advantage. meanwhile, on the mound for the jays, the price was right as in mr. david price who would go seven innings allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out seven, one of those victims being alex rodriguez here in the bottom of the sixth. then in the top of the seventh with brian mitchell now on the mound, troy tulle lits sky, a solo bomb made it 5-0, jays, 6-0 would be the final pulling them to within two and a half of a yanks. now here's skipper joe girardi on his team's current situation. >> you know, i said this was an important series going in, but really what's going to determine the division is you've got two months to go and how you play in the next two months -- not two games. obviously, we lose a tough one last night, pretty good pitchers' duel for a long time today, we lose today, you know? this is the one thing i know about this group, they've been very resilient, and they've bounced back very well, and we'll be back tomorrow. >> we will see. all right, if you missed it yesterday, an ugly, ugly report came out with allegations that pete rose had sex with underage girls back in the '80s, getting them from the same man he was betting on baseball with. these allegations came in a podcast last month from john dowd, the same john dowd who issued the dowd report which subsequently had rose banned from baseball for his gambling on the game. during this podcast, dowd said, and i quote, folks: michael bertlyny told us he not only ran bet, but also ran young girls for rose down in spring training ages 12-14. isn't that lovely? so that's statutory rape every time you do that, end quote. now, that's pretty much as damning an allegation as one can make. sex with young girls. but when asked about his allegations just yesterday, dowd simply said i don't want to talk about this anymore, i think this was blown way out of proportion. you ought to to talk to michael bertolini, he's the one that made them. well, a couple of things here. his lawyer called the allegations libelous to both his client and rose. but what really kills me here is john dowd saying this is blown out of proportion as if sex with 12 and 14-year-old girls is no big deal at all? and if it is true, how come dowd didn't go immediately to the police with this information? i guess he didn't care enough about the alleged victims. maybe he thought pete rose betting on baseball was a far worse crime than raping young girls. to me, this is just a smear campaign against pete rose. to me, john dowd is a bad guy, a really bad guy with zero credibility right now. all right, what do you say we now travel north of the border up to ottawa, ontario, canada, where history was make when mikeing sam here became the first openly-gay player to premiere in a game. sam failed to make a tackle playing sparingly. sam, you'll recall, was picked in the seventh round of nfl draft by the st. louis rams but was cut by them, and then after being signed to the dallas cowboys' practice squad, he was cut by them as well. unfortunately for michael, he's what you would call a tweener, not big enough for one position, not fast enough for another. lost somewhere in between. >> all right. good analysis there. >> okay. >> russ, thanks a lot. a check of the forecast, audrey. looking good there too. >> well, christina, pretty nice -- >> oh, there's a beach ball. >> you know why? i went to go tweet that. >> if you're going to the beach tomorrow, we are expecting the uv index to be high at an 8. the water will feel nice because the temperature is in the low to mid 70s. >> that does it for us tonight. i'm christina park with russ salzburg and audrey puente.
