she's in the newsroom with details. vester flanagan says he was motivated by the racism he saw in the charleston church shootings...and that he admired the work of the virginia tech and columbine shooters. he talked at length about his decision....in a 23 page fax sent to abc news....but the seven on your side i-team has also done some digging to find out more about the shooter. we've learned flanagan went by the name bryce williams on air. we know the 41-year-old worked at at least six television stations in his career....although his linked in page indicates he never spent more than two years with any company. seven on your side found court records that show flanagan sued two of his former employers...includi ng w-d-b-j - in a recent dispute over wages following his dismissal. he also sued a florida station owned by our parent company - sinclair broadcasting in 2000...claiming discrimination after working there one year. both cases were dimissed. flanagan shed some light on his motive based on that detailed document sent to abc...in which he calls the virginia tech shooter "his boy"...saying he put down a deposit on a gun after the charleston church shooting - which he says sent him over the top. he claims the bullets he fired today had the victims initials on them. use breaking news keys banner: shooter's background in his letter - flanagan says his anger has been steadily building...that he was a powder keg just waiting to explode. police still don't know if he specifically targeted alison parker and adam ward...his former colleagues. but flanagan said he has suffered racial discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying at work. joce sterman - "7 on your side" with why more affordable homes are disappearing. kimberly: we continue to follow the tragedy of the day, the deadly shooting outside of roanoke. tv news reporter and a news photographer gunned down while on the air live this morning. the shooter later shot and killed himself. our team coverage continues tonight on "abc7 news at 5:00". jonathan: you in the market looking for a low price home? good luck. they need a lot of work. kimberly: john matarese explain why affordable homes are disappearing so you don't waste your money. john: when couples get married they typically buy inexpensive starter home and move up to a bigger home when kids and better job come along. unfortunately the starter home may be disappearing. have you seen the new homes going up lately? since the market recovered from the 2010 downturn. you may not find much in the price range. according to a new report in the dailyfinance.com, columnist bob sullivan say builders put up two types of home. pricy, premium homes with granite in bathrooms and the housing for families on government subsidiaries. daily finance says the middle class starter home all but disappeared. earn the median income of $50,000 a year would be a new home for $125,000. and they don't exist. the reason they are rarely built, labor and the material costs, builders can't profit on homes costing less than $200,000 unless there are area with cheap land. if you live near a city you say doesn't it stink? leaves respecting or buying the small older homes the best option but they often need thundershowers in updating, squeeze -- need thousands of dollars in updating to squeeze homeowners more. a move to move back to smaller homes in the last year to offer some hope to struggling families so you don't waste your money. i'm john matarese. abc7 news. >> shots were fired around 6:45 leon: murdered on air, two journalists killed as viewers watched. >> not sure what happened there. >> the alleged killer vester flanagan, a disgruntled former employee posting the horrific acts on social media. >> i'm alison parker. >> tonight a community and a station in mourning. remembering the lives of alison parker and adam ward. >> let us not forget, they grew up in this area and were part of the community. leon: a chilling scene before shooting them on live tv. that have set off a manhunt in moneta, virginia, ending along i-66 near markham. then the gunman was taken to the inova fairfax hospital where he later died. we have team coverage of the on-air ambush. begin with northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg live in moneta with the latest. jeff, what is the latest at this hour? jeff: well, leon, we can tell you that the bridgewater plaza where the shooting took place this morning remains closed off as the investigators continue looking into the question of why this happened. the wdbj tv live truck used in the broadcast still parked in the parking lot. as the community continues dealing dealing with the shock and pain. on-air am buck, shots fired as alison parker wrapped up a live interview with photographer adam ward. >> let us not forget they grew up in this area. they were part of our community. jeff: ward was part of finding his own killer. his camera continued to roll after he fell to the ground. capturing images of vester flanagan, the man suspected of killing them both and also identified as a former wdbj employee who went by the name bryce williams on air. police do not know whether he specifically targeted his former colleagues. >> did he know before this morning they would be located at this remote location doing a broadcast? did he see it? jeff: many saw a twitter account bearing williams name live tweeting the tragedy, including graphic video of the shooting itself and claims about the victims. the shooter later captured an hour outside washington, d.c. flanagan dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound
