olivia jordan is the new miss usa. the 26-year-old was representing oklahoma and aced the essay questions. pageant co-owner donald trump wasn't there and wasn't mentioned. those are some of our top stories on this monday july 13th. >> from abc news this is "world news now" with t.j. holmes and reena ninan. >> good morning, everyone. we begin this half hour with a major manhunt under way right now for one of the world's most mo know taurus drug lords. >> a mexican official once said the joaquin "el chapo" guzman ever seeing the light of day didn't exist. now we know that risk very much did exist. we get more now from abc's michele franzen. >> a drug lord reportedly worth more than a billion dollars has disappeared from one of mex koes' most secure prisons. joaquin guzman is believed to control most of the major crossing points for drugs along the border for years sending cocaine, marijuana and meth north to america. >> he's sometimes called the osama bin laden of droug trafficking >> last seen on video on his way to a prison shower. when he failed to eamerican, guards rushing in to find an empty cell. the notorious cartel leader had vanished. in that shower area, a hole in the wall 20 inches wide leading to a vertical pipe 30 feet deep complete with a stair characters eventually connecting to a one-mile long tunnel so sophisticated it was outfitted with ventilation and lighting. eventually emerging in a nearby neighborhood. these developments a major embarrassment for mexico which denied the need to extradite guzman even as many expressed fears he would escape as he did in 2001. the u.s. attorney general saying america would provide any assistance that may help support his recapture. this latest breakout eerily similar to the system of tunnels he used to avoid capture for more than a decade. mexican authorities revealing these images including a secret entrance concealed in a shower stall from several of his compounds and hiding spots. days before his capture last year the drug lord using one of those tunnels beneath a mexican hotel to elude authorities. he was last seen in public in 2014 the murders russ criminal then in handcuffs surrounded by mexican paramilitary officers. michele franzen, abc news new york. >> top diplomats including secretary of state john kerry are expected to announce a nuclear deal with iran later today. it would limit iran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting of sanctions. it would have to be approved by congress and many republican lawmakers are already saying they would vote against it. >> pope francis heading back home to rome after a historic visit to south america. he left an indelible impressions and at every stop reiterated his call for a new world order. >> pope francis pulled up in the same old white pugh jot that john paul used in 1988. the crowd more than a million strong. john paul ii was a rock star francis a native son. his message all week sharply critical of a global economy that exploits people and pillages mother earth. pope francis calling instead for a globalization of hope. that message is a huge hit here in latin america but it would seem to cast the u.s. as a villain. it may not go down so well when pope francis addresses a joint session of congress. in low livia a golf cart serving as popemobile to a prison yard crowded with murderers, rapists and drug traffickers. also on this trip the first latin american pope begged forgiveness for the church's sins against indigenous people. at a mass pope francis even said the lord's prayer in a native language. [ speaking foreign language ] >> david wright abc news, traveling with the pope in paraguay. >> just days after the confederate flag was taken down at the south carolina capitol, thousands of people rallied in favor of the flag. cars and motorcycles adorned with that battle flag rode around ocala, florida, as part of a peaceful rally. it was a show of support for the confederate symbol that they say represents heritage not hate. but someone fired gunshots at a black neighborhood nearby. confederate flags were also on full display in memphis at an event celebrating life of a confederate general. meanwhile in charlotte, north carolina police and community groups teamed up for a unity rally as a white officer prepared to go on trial for the death of an unarmed black man. both sides calling for protests to remain peaceful while randall character's manslaughter begins next week. he killed jonathan farrell after farrell wrecked his car and knocked on a stranger's door for help. >> some politics this morning. wisconsin governor scott walker joining the race for president today, the 15th republican to throw his hat in the ring. he gained national attention four years ago when he took steps to limit the collective bargaining powers of most of his state's public unions. then he overcame a recall election. walker has already spoken with abc's david muir. you can see parts of their discussion later on "good morning america" and world news tonight." >> did you say 15? prison now being questioned. details now from abc's pierre thomas. >> the top drug dealer in the world has done it again. his legend infamy growing as he escapes a maximum security prison for a second time. this time his escape is the stuff of movies slipping through a small hole in his cell into a tunnel complete with the ventilation, lights and motorcycle on rails apparently used to help dig him out. escaping to freedom through a tunnel nearly a mile long that connects to this who us. >> he's been notorious for his use of tunnels. the sin local yas cartel has a team of engineers and miners have that built over 100 tunnels between the u.s. and mexico. >> el chapo is the leader of the sinaloa mexican cartel thought to be responsible for a quarter of the drugs here in the u.s. marijuana, cocaine, heroin meth. tens of thousands have died in the u.s. and mexico because of him through overdoses and associated murders. >> chapo guzman is like the osama bin laden of drug trafficking. >> paydirt. you got what you were looking for. >> yes we did. >> el chapo and other drug leaders have made their corporations multibillion dollar conglomerates using is trucks airplanes to smuggle their product. i saw it first firsthand at a checkpoint. this truck of furniture was hiding more than a ton of marijuana. there is so much drug traffic coming from mexican car tills it has to be destroyed at secret locations like this. el chapo made the forbes magazine billionaires list celebrated in mexico on videos and, he's been indicted in the u.s. on drug charges. >> this is a huge failure. he's one of the most powerful drug cartel leaders in mexico if not the most powerful. >> many said it couldn't be done but allegedly a historic announcement a nuclear deal with iran is expected looking like later today. top diplomats indicated thee reached an agreement to restrict iran's nuclear program with sanctions. they warned last minute obstacles could delay the announcement. if a deal is reached, it would have to be reviewed by lawmakers in iran and the other six countries involved in the talks. also today high level talks to resolve greek's financial crisis. euro yar zone leaders met late into the night at a summit. greece is offering more austerity reforms for financial aid but any deal would have to be approved by greek voters. just a week ago they overwhelmingly rejected a similar plan. >> donald trump is refusing calls from his party to tone things down in particular his rhetoric on immigration after thousands of supportered out in phoenix. he told the washington post that immigration issue cannot be toned down. he's not getting much criticism though from fellow republican presidential candidate carl i fiorina. >> i think donald trump taps into an anger that i hear every day. people are angry that a common sense thing like securing the border or ending sanctuary cities is somehow considered extreme. it's common sense. we need to secure the border. >> rump pounced on the escape of drug lord el chapo we've been telling you about. trump tweeting it's a reminder of the problems he's referring to when he said add mexicanmy grans are bringing drugs and crime to the united states. >> a strange sign. a small single engine plane forced to make an new jersey landing after losing power. the instructor was treated for a small cut on his arm but no other with ventilation, lights and a motorcycle on rails apparently used to help dig him out, escaping to freedom through a covert tunnel nearly a mile long that connects to this house. >> he's been
